Spend a day in Greeley, then come tell me what you think. Trump humpers cooking meth and working the fracking fields. The whole place reeks of cow shit from the slaughterhouse.
As a Canadian, we'd be happy to take Hawaii, too. Years ago there were allegedly talks to accept St. Lucia as a province - we need something in the tropics that counts as a domestic flight.
As someone who lives in Hawaii... No. There is no way the islands can sustain itself as its own country. Tourism wouldnt be enough. It will go bankrupt in weeks.
It's a sticky wicket. You could do what they did with Berlin following WWII, and connect a the city with an express train to the rest of the homeland. Of course, bit of a longer rail line...
Fucking same. I've already started looking into becoming a citizen to get the fuck outta here. They wanna just adopt Oregon? Makes my life 100x simpler. I get to keep my Apizza Scholls.
More and more I hear them being collectively referred to as Cascadia. The name's already a bit ambiguous as both the PNW and the bioregion share it. So I guess a 3rd can't add too much to the confusion..
If we can have Alaska as it is now where we have to go through Canada or take a boat to get there from the lower 48, there shouldn't be any issue with including Colorado.
Ha, you realize Arizona is where all the boomers went to retire. It’s the biggest enclave of anti vax, make ‘Merica great, Trump humpers this side of Texas. You can keep the whole fucking state.
Arizona is a lot more expensive than it used to be. Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US, and it costs almost as much as living in LA now. The old farts aren't moving here anymore.
The ones already there aren’t likely to leave now that they have their fat retirement homes bought and paid for. They’ll ride out the housing market getting higher and higher. The only way they will leave is by selling but nobody’s buying.
Unless you've lived here, you have no clue. This state is actually purple. The original conservatives like my Grandfather, the Goldwater republicans weren't as insane as the current MAGA crowd. Arizona is the birthplace of a lot of the modern Republican movement, but they were pragmatists, not the insane idiots who are now conservatives. They despise bullshit, and nuts.
One could probably add IL, MI and WI to that list, the biggest screw on the great lakes is really Ohio (WTF Ohio?) The portion of Indiana on Lake Michigan is essentially Chicago sprawl. Illinois should just use 'economic pressure' to take it over.
I'm fine with this, I live in Washington. I can imagine the eastern side of the state bitching and moaning all the way to their first free visit to a hospital, then they'll get it.
Yeah, like, take the northern section of the California-Nevada border and extend it north through Washington and Oregon, and hand the region on the east side of the cut to Idaho. It would look tidier too.
Leaving out the city of Spokane is dumb when it easily can be made bluer by the people living there actively being involved as seen by it having the most progressive local housing ordinances and zoning laws in the state, and rejecting their trumpy mayor for a far better one.
The only reason it appears red when it's really a blue shaded purple is because of dumb local voting district choices and because so many young leftists would rather leave and live in Seattle where they don't have to actively work to make things better because someone else is already doing the work they pretend to care about. And unfortunately being the only blue dot in a sea of red is a lot harder when your population is still only large townish despite being the second biggest city in WA.
Fun fact- Texas seceded from Mexico because Mexico outlawed slavery, and Texas wanted to keep slaves. They gave up the "panhandle" to Oklahoma because America still allowed slavery in 1845, but ONLY below the 36°30′ latitude. And then 15 years later they went to war over slavery and tried to secede again anyway.
I'm Canadian and terrified of being American. I am currently looking at surgery for my eye as I am going blind and I am not paying a dime for it. In the us at a guess it would be half my savings for one eye and I need both done. There are way more reasons than this to not be American but it would take too long to list
Canada is still rolling out denial coverage. Currently only for older people and kids. When it is available for all ages there will be household income limits so not true universal coverage.
Given the population differences in the two countries, even if the idea were about a tenth as popular in the US as it were in Canada that would still be true
Unlikely to still be true. Canada has kept growing over the past few years. The estimates of their national statistical office are currently at 41.5 million, which is higher than California's last census. California meanwhile as seen a population decline in most years since then, with the US Census Bureau estimating that there are ~39.4 million people in California now, a slight decrease compared to the census.
True, but they would have something called "democracy".
It's impossible to call "democracy" the weird system the USA has now, with only 2 choices: "Ultra Right" and "Slightly less ultra Right, but clueless", all carefully gerrymandered to make sure there's no real choice for anything different.
It's not perfect up here and can be gamed by someone who is truly amoral like JustInept, but fairly often we have real choices with multiple different parties instead of just "Dumb" and "Dumber".
I would hope you guys would have enough sense not to let these fuckers vote. It would be swell of you just to let them live there, but for the sake of all that is holy, don't let them vote.
I'd willing to give up housing for lots of other shit not being fucking horrible, even at the mid line. Like I could shit in a hole in my yard for three months and that hole would be more valuable than the entire bible belt.
There's lots of cheap housing, the problem is it's all in very unpopulated places with no jobs and/or brutal winters where you'll be a 4hr drive away from the nearest hospital.
They average over a million for a home that size in the suburbs around the major Canadian cities. You might get one under a million in the least popular areas. Or you could get a condo.
You’re not a real Canadian until you buy maple syrup by the crate through people you know, or people who know people who know people who run a sugar shack.
Canadian provincial conservatives have been deliberately underfunding healthcare to usher in private care for their donors. The bizarre part is those conservatives have somehow convinced voters to blame Trudeau at the federal level for their mismanagement. Voters are just as stupid here as the US.
Canada would also get (rough math): 35.3% of the United States GDP (California and New York being 22% alone) and 6/7 Ivy League Schools and basically the countries entire higher medical care system (These states comprise 8/10 of the US's top hospitals, and would probably lead to shut down of lots of off shoots from places like the Mayo Clinic)
Universal except for dental, and most mental health care services, and it only really works if you have a family doctor which like 30% or something of us canadians dont have, and if we'll reccomend you kill yourself if we dont feel like treating you.
Like its better than whatevers happening in america, but its hardly "universal"
It has its issues though, overall it works well. But if you need some brand new cancer drug you will likely have to pay for it. At least it is only the drug and not all the MRI or CT scans before hand that you are paying for.
My grandma got stage 4 throat cancer. If we lived in the US, she would have suffered severely. After she died, we get about 5k from the gov to help with cremation. Cremation costs about 6k though but at least it's skmething.
We just started rolling out national Pharmacare. Birth control, insulin, and other major drugs are now covered.
And for brand new cancer drugs it’s actually not usually out of pocket. There is a patchwork of programs and such to cover many items (my FiL is on one that costs $10K per injection, but pays nothing)
I see people citing that it takes a long time to get seen… I needed a follow up for nearly dying here in the US and the next time my doc can see me is 4 months later… the difference is in the US you not only have wait times these days, but a chance your insurance just says “lol no” and you get worse or die.
Wait times up here can vary, you can (and should) get bumped down in priority to someone that needs the MRI *now* because they are in greater need. But I doubt that differs too much from what happens at triage in emergency wards throughout the US. The biggest issue I have seen here is that we have a lack of GPs, so any US doctors wanting to move up this way I am certain the gov't will expedite your visas provided you are will to be a GP where you are needed (rural doctors are in high demand).
I've been waiting for a basic physical for 13 months here in America. It's been so long that my insurance has changed. The doctor might not take my new insurance, and if that's the case, I'll have to reschedule it somewhere else and wait all over again, and it won't even end up paying for the entire appointment.
And regarding those that use to criticize universal healthcare about this, it's something that can be addressed with prioritisation. In my country cancer cases get rushed ahead. If it's discovered you might have cancer, you'd get a more specific checkup within 14 days max. And if its confirmed to be cancer and a treatment is agreed upon, again max 14 days for treatment to start
Non serious issues then get down prioritized and can have long waiting times
Walk outside and visit with people. The stuff you see on the internet is the exception, not the rule. My neighborhood is multicultural, I tied public transportation every day. No one is fighting, no one id disrespecting. People are pretty normal in reality.
Yeah, take us Michiganders, please. We connected by three bridges and a good enough number of us like hockey and poutine. Hell, I'm part Canadian anyways.
Hmmm… Wisconsin maybe on a trial basis, but it’s pretty fucked up up there. And, as an Illinoisan, I want us to be included but would TOTALLY understand why we weren’t.
sorry for yelling, but the whole 'lumping everyone from a state under the final vote tally' is a little frustrating, but can't be nearly as agonizing as I am sure it must have been for Californians when Trump was considering withholding aid to fire victims previously, just because the state went Blue in 2016.
True enough. Hey, maybe Canada should just annex the whole of the US, (except Florida)? Maybe Canada feels like they Require the natural resources and security that the States would provide, so "we" should just capitulate to their natural superiority?!?
There were enough audits to confirm. We spent the last 4 years laughing at the idiocy of MAGA for lying about that shit and believing it. And Democrats immediately start generating conspiracies for their own side. Don't lie to yourselves. The corporations and Republicans do it enough they don't need help.
We'll take Wisconsin, they got cheese and such we can trade syrup with. I dont know about Michigan though, they have Detroit. They have to be mean for survival after USA shipped their future and manufacturing power over seas for the whoaights to profit from. Im not sure they can handle canadian kindness after the way they've been treated
Canada can have all the Great Lakes states. It would completely fuck what was left of America, which would lose almost all of its GDP and a substantial portion of its manufacturing capacity. So I'm all for it.
All they'd have to do is to say that Canada "needs it for their national security, so the US should just give it up." At least that's TFG's excuse about Greenland, so why shouldn't it work the other way? (I'm a Michigander, and at the rate this BS is going, I'd go for being a Canadian in a heartbeat...)
I think Philly is being included. The rest of the state is basically trump country. Maybe some scattered pockets elsewhere, like Pitt, but otherwise...
Maybe the Chicagoland area but south of I-80 and west of I-39 we’re pretty much a red state sadly. My family is from Wisconsin, outside of the big cities like Milwaukee, Madison, and Green bay they’re pretty red up there. I was visiting family in Tomahawk in October and you couldn’t find a Biden or Harris sign or flag to save your life. Trump flags every 100 feet though.
The small cities in the south are also blue. Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, Champaign/Urban, Decatur, Springfield, The Metro East, poor forlorn Carbondale.

And vision! I forget!
Rockafella83
Take mine, I’ll get California minus the fire
SortaSordid
It has its issues though, overall it works well. But if you need some brand new cancer drug you will likely have to pay for it. At least it is only the drug and not all the MRI or CT scans before hand that you are paying for.
Srcsqwrn
You get general healthcare from the neck down in about 10 business years. But at least emergencies are taken care of well, and free~
pandemicmodedad
My grandma got stage 4 throat cancer. If we lived in the US, she would have suffered severely. After she died, we get about 5k from the gov to help with cremation. Cremation costs about 6k though but at least it's skmething.
unbreathless
We just started rolling out national Pharmacare. Birth control, insulin, and other major drugs are now covered.
And for brand new cancer drugs it’s actually not usually out of pocket. There is a patchwork of programs and such to cover many items (my FiL is on one that costs $10K per injection, but pays nothing)

Americans think that universal healthcare means everything is free and premium service

Americans think a lot of things that just don't make any sense.
siegfriedwatson
I see people citing that it takes a long time to get seen… I needed a follow up for nearly dying here in the US and the next time my doc can see me is 4 months later… the difference is in the US you not only have wait times these days, but a chance your insurance just says “lol no” and you get worse or die.
SortaSordid
Wait times up here can vary, you can (and should) get bumped down in priority to someone that needs the MRI *now* because they are in greater need. But I doubt that differs too much from what happens at triage in emergency wards throughout the US. The biggest issue I have seen here is that we have a lack of GPs, so any US doctors wanting to move up this way I am certain the gov't will expedite your visas provided you are will to be a GP where you are needed (rural doctors are in high demand).
whyisdamien
The difference in the US is the triage is based on bank balance and skin colour .....
IchigoberriGamer
I've been waiting for a basic physical for 13 months here in America. It's been so long that my insurance has changed. The doctor might not take my new insurance, and if that's the case, I'll have to reschedule it somewhere else and wait all over again, and it won't even end up paying for the entire appointment.
siegfriedwatson
Needless to say, the Canadian wait times are basically the same as the US ones
BobisBobIsHimIsMe
But FREE
Ricobe9
And regarding those that use to criticize universal healthcare about this, it's something that can be addressed with prioritisation. In my country cancer cases get rushed ahead. If it's discovered you might have cancer, you'd get a more specific checkup within 14 days max. And if its confirmed to be cancer and a treatment is agreed upon, again max 14 days for treatment to start
Non serious issues then get down prioritized and can have long waiting times
whyisdamien
Yes, it is a form of triage!
PapaJoeNH
I want some level of respect from each other. Canadians are nothing if not decent and kind
RealMattGreer
Walk outside and visit with people. The stuff you see on the internet is the exception, not the rule. My neighborhood is multicultural, I tied public transportation every day. No one is fighting, no one id disrespecting. People are pretty normal in reality.
PapaJoeNH
I go to Canada occasionally. Enough to know they aren't like us
RealMattGreer
*ride* not *tied* lol
samuelwestphalia
Wisconsin and Michigan included or no deal!
onlyhalfghost
Greater Ontario shall hold the line against Quebec-Ohio.
xeilua
You voted for Trump. Us blue states get first say.
otherzoey
Right.... As a michigander, I'm a little insulted we didn't get an initial invite. We're literally holding hands with each other...
Wonkable
Almost forgot Illinois, especially Chicago.
DonL9
Yeah, take us Michiganders, please. We connected by three bridges and a good enough number of us like hockey and poutine. Hell, I'm part Canadian anyways.
jadams999
At least the UP
kaltralliart
You don't want Wiscussy ?
whatdidyoureallyexpect
AND Illinois! Seriously!
Pansy1024
Yes!!
SidoniaFalls
Yeah, Michigan was Canada before anyway!
PithyCommentBelow
Hmmm… Wisconsin maybe on a trial basis, but it’s pretty fucked up up there. And, as an Illinoisan, I want us to be included but would TOTALLY understand why we weren’t.
cmanaway101
And illinois, or at least the good part!
ImShocked
Then maybe they should have voted blue
dogstarlove
Thank you!
FlintNorth44
They voted red so not happening. I mean, none of this is happening, but still...
georgejimmydoodle
Ordinary, fuck them for voting for a nazi. But it would be better if Canada had as much of the Great Lakes as possible.
WeTheI
please don't leave us behind!
chata954
Illinois wants to be Canada too!!
chata954
I take it back , sovereign States instead
Callipygius
You guys voted for trump

zelda633000
NOT ALL OF US!!!!!
zelda633000
sorry for yelling, but the whole 'lumping everyone from a state under the final vote tally' is a little frustrating, but can't be nearly as agonizing as I am sure it must have been for Californians when Trump was considering withholding aid to fire victims previously, just because the state went Blue in 2016.
Callipygius
Of course, but the same logic applies to the non Republicans in deeply red states, who are being excluded based on this map
zelda633000
True enough. Hey, maybe Canada should just annex the whole of the US, (except Florida)? Maybe Canada feels like they Require the natural resources and security that the States would provide, so "we" should just capitulate to their natural superiority?!?
Flyvemaskine
Barely
tidepool
Supposedly. There should’ve been a full audit to prove it wasn’t fucky.
hyperchondriac
There were enough audits to confirm. We spent the last 4 years laughing at the idiocy of MAGA for lying about that shit and believing it. And Democrats immediately start generating conspiracies for their own side. Don't lie to yourselves. The corporations and Republicans do it enough they don't need help.

As long as we're all agreed that Ohio is out

Even Ohio doesn't want Ohio
samuelwestphalia
Oh, absolutely
AdultsOnlyMinecraft
Agreed.
natgrett
Let republicans tough the great lakes and they'll poison it, yes Ohio
EchoDelta141
We'll take Wisconsin, they got cheese and such we can trade syrup with. I dont know about Michigan though, they have Detroit. They have to be mean for survival after USA shipped their future and manufacturing power over seas for the whoaights to profit from. Im not sure they can handle canadian kindness after the way they've been treated
PoorSucker
Only if the upper peninsula is included
thesunisgettingreallow
Detroiters are tough, but not mean.
thesunisgettingreallow
This! Canada needs to secure more of the Great Lakes
Drosera
Agreed let's give Canada the majority of the great lakes states.
aThingWithTheStufAndTheJunk
Canada can have all the Great Lakes states. It would completely fuck what was left of America, which would lose almost all of its GDP and a substantial portion of its manufacturing capacity. So I'm all for it.
zelda633000
All they'd have to do is to say that Canada "needs it for their national security, so the US should just give it up." At least that's TFG's excuse about Greenland, so why shouldn't it work the other way? (I'm a Michigander, and at the rate this BS is going, I'd go for being a Canadian in a heartbeat...)
chata954
I mean maybe, they did have a co.pany try to poison us all... nvm
Wonkable
Pennsylvania too. What would hockey be without the Flyers and their fans
VadersCallGirl
Also, who would the flyers hate if you don't include Pittsburgh?
samuelwestphalia
New Jersey :)
samuelwestphalia
I think Philly is being included. The rest of the state is basically trump country. Maybe some scattered pockets elsewhere, like Pitt, but otherwise...
spookyu
East PA and Western PA are wildly different, cut in eastern PA and it's a good deal.
SomeDetroitGuy
100% need to bring in Hockey America.
Psionickitten
Illinois would *definitely* want in on that deal, especially if Wisconsin got in on the deal.
bsd4breakfast
As a person from Wisconsin I feel like I can speak for all of us when I say no we don't want Illinois
whatsisname
The only reason to include Wisconsin would also be to snag Chicago. Wisconsin still hasn't earned redemption for the crime of Scott Walker.
samuelwestphalia
I think you could cleanly cleave Chicago and the outlying coastal regions, and leave the rest behind
WoodORama
No FIBS allowed in Canada, eh?
crusadurus
Ya we gotta get Illinois in on this somehow.
bdennis3222000
Maybe the Chicagoland area but south of I-80 and west of I-39 we’re pretty much a red state sadly. My family is from Wisconsin, outside of the big cities like Milwaukee, Madison, and Green bay they’re pretty red up there. I was visiting family in Tomahawk in October and you couldn’t find a Biden or Harris sign or flag to save your life. Trump flags every 100 feet though.
Illinifan88
Almost all, if not every state is red outside of its major cities.
Psionickitten
That's a very small part of the population. As they say people vote, not land. They get what the majority votes for.
cmanaway101
Yeah, chicago/Chicagoland area, the rest of illinois might as well be Missouri
jjp803127001
The small cities in the south are also blue. Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, Champaign/Urban, Decatur, Springfield, The Metro East, poor forlorn Carbondale.
cmanaway101
You're right, and i love them for it!

Every couple years some state senator tries to seperate cook country from the rest of the state… good luck getting by without our taxes

It's wisconsin. The drunk rednecks are just louder. They're still out numbered by us reasonable wisconsinites.
cmanaway101
Illinois guy here and I love Wisconsin! You guys are great and f the rednecks!
TheBigBadBonerBiter
"They're still outnumbered by us" your election results tell me otherwise.
cmanaway101
Honestly Wisconsin is very blue in the cities, they just get screwed over by so many counties being rural
