Unless you've seen it yourself you cannot truly fathom the number of people using Tokyo public transit during rush hour. Trains arrive like every 3 minutes and they're all packed to the gills like this until the end of the rush. It's absolutely fucking crazy.
You'd imagine there'd be a tool for that... like a big four foot wide Teflon tamping tool on a pole... you just push into the center of the crowd until the doors start to close... or just have everyone inhale until the next stop.
I remember a picture from years ago showing subway wardens wielding 3 or 4 ft white poles held horizontally pushing passengers through the doors. Also, I think you want people to exhale, no? Everyone takes up more space when they inhale.

Sad but hilarious

I could not do this. I would rather ride on the top of the car

I made the mistake of trying to catch a train at Shinjuku during morning rush. I let four of them go by before there was one I could barely cram into

In that case... adding another car sounds like a pretty good idea.

The technology exists, we just need a few more billions to fine-tune the AI.

I'm slightly disappointed that this is more of a shoed version instead of having the toes out.
