Tigers are ridiculously huge. Would I love to pet, play, and snuggle with one that somehow magically would enjoy it too and not eviscerate just because it could? Sure. But IRL, those massive 600 pound kitties are murder claws and teeth.
I can think of no reason that a zoo would put two predators facing each other like this. It would do nothing but create a stress response in both, more so in the smaller.
Agreed, but there's a fire extinguisher, interpretive signs, and a railing in that room so it's not an enclosure. More likely a public space between two enclosures and they let the leopard in.... for some reason. Cleaning its space maybe?
Raw aggression can be surprisingly effective since most animals don't want to actually *fight*. Deter encroachment by competitors? Sure. Catch food? Absolutely. Actually get in a stand up fight where injury is a possibility, when injury in the wild can lead to infection and death? Yeah, not so much.
