Some background

When I was twenty (almost ten years ago) I was woken up by my father, who was very abusive my whole life at this point, woke me up by charging into my house yelling death threats, I slept with loaded guns and I rolled out of bed and shot him dead at my door. I turned myself over to police and later plead guilty to manslaughter which landed me a sentence of over ten years.

I'm in Canada and due to the amount of force I used and our lack of castle laws I was not able to plead self defense.

TL;DR I shot my abusive dad and went to prison for a long while.

The day shit got real

We had a long covered walk way between facilities (work out room, mess hall, etc.), that stretch had a lot of shit go down in it, the only place more violent is the mess hall, there were four units in this pen, only two of them got to interact with each other on rec periods the rest of the time units were segregated from one another with one exception: breakfast.

I had been in the pen for about three months, other than getting in a couple fights it had been pretty quiet, until breakfast on this morning, I was standing in line waiting for my meal tray and I can hear some bustling right behind me, in situations like this it is dangerous as fuck to look around for what's going on, if you draw the guards attention when guys are up to something you will get stabbed, maybe not now, but you will.

I hear a muffled cry from the guy behind me, and then the chatter stopped and I get bumped by a guy that's masked up shiving the guy behind me in line. I can tell you right now that the single worst sound I have heard is a man gurgling on his own blood.

The day the pedophile fucked up

Everyone hates pedophiles, but by far your average convict hates them more. Largely because a lot of convicts are guys that got molested as kids, like a disturbingly high percentage.

So the pen I was in is notorious for rooting out skinners and hounds (rapists and pedophiles) we try hard to eliminate all of them. The prison then gives them fake names and fake paperwork, sometimes it's a guard, most of the time it's outside contacts but we get the information eventually. This particular day a goof (pedo) that had been a loud, charismatic character that had made some friends who thought he was in for armed robbery got ratted out by one of the guards.

An hour later two units were out for recreation, he made the mistake when one guy called him by his real name and he answered immediately, seconds later 27 guys masked up and armed swarm him, he was stabbed, beaten and kicked to death on the walkway, the bloodstain was there for weeks, the investigation into his murder came up with insufficient evidence to charge anyone.

"Hey buddy wanna make fifty bucks?"

So the pen can be an extraordinarily boring place, every now and then someone gets a bright idea for some entertainment. So we had an exceptionally stupid guy on my unit, he fessed up to several robberies (some of which he didn't even commit) for a burger and fries from dairy queen. Exceptionally stupid, so my buddy and I are walking laps in the back forty at rec and my buddy spots the Cheeseburger Bandit (from this point on I'll call him CB) and calls him over.

I don't know what he's up to at this point but I know he's plotting something, so CB gets over to where we are and my buddy says "Hey buddy wanna make 50 bucks?" CB not being one for prudence immediately jumps on the opportunity "What do you need me to do!?" my buddy tells him he'll pay him $50 for trying to climb over the 20 ft fences... CB doesn't even blink and says "I got dis!" what happened on Saturday is one of my favorite memories.

So saturday morning rec period most of the unit is in the back forty 'enjoying the weather' when CB makes his appearance, he gets into the forty and immediately sprints for the fence, the guards catch sight of the dumbest guy in prison making a mad dash and hit the alarm, CB doesn't even break stride and proceeds to book for the fence like a retarded gazelle on steroids, grabs hold of the chain link fence and by this time the response team is hoofing it down the fence, the whole time the guard tower is screaming at him to stop, he makes it about half way up the fence when the response team gets to him and shoots him with a beanbag pretty much point blank. Two months in the hole some bruised ribs and legendary status for the rest of his bit. $50 well earned.

TL;DR idiot made an escape attempt for 50 bucks, got shot off the fence with a beanbag left a legend.

Let me know if you guys like these and want more.

FP Edit: Wow, can't believe the response to this, it has been amazing, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it so, without further delay here is

Brothers in prison for more less same. He speaks of pedos with a heavy distaste, makes sure to mention he hates them everytime.

"Holier than thou". He's in jail, but he wants to feel better about himself thinking that there are people worse than him.

What a shitty opinion. How about he doesn't like weirdos messing with children?

Canada has prisons?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Believe it or not, yes. Mostly stuffed in a small Ontario city called Kingston, along with everything else Toronto doesn't like.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The range was pretty much all people waiting for court, and most of us are/were methadone patients (been clean since I got out 2 years ago)

Is rape as common as everyone thinks it is?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What's is "masked up"?

10 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

Thanks. I was wondering the same.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

When guys cover their faces using any available material so they aren't identifiable on security cam

10 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

Don't the jumpsuits have numbers? Or do they cover that too?

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

No jump suits up here, jeans and white t-shirts with name tags but easy to remove

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

Ohh. Crazy stories. I am very interested in more.

Third.

Seconded!

According to trailer park boys, Canadian prison is a lot of fun. All the dope and booze you could want.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A man gurgling on his own blood is in fact a sound I'm familiar with...not pleasant.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a fellow survivor of childhood abuse, I can't imagine the mind-fuck after going through that. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

You would never have gone to jail in Texas. Hell, you'd be doing the talk show circuit.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

It's horrible to hear prison is so dangerous. One should pay for their crime, but not be in danger, or devolve into something worse.

10 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 3

You must not be an American LOL

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Or hes just a reasonable person with an IQ over 50

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Agreed, but in America the dangers of the prison system, including rape, are seen as a function not a flaw.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That kind of attitude has no home with the "tough on crime" and religious crowd.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

"Forgive criminals and your enemies, but put people in life-threatening situations for being criminal because that's forgiveness."

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

B.S. False stereotype. The most religious woman I know is running a personal campaign against false imprisonment for pedo. Her son's a cop.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

She writes letters against prison conditions and tries to spread the word. Church folk are her biggest supporters.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Many of those who lead the 'tough on crime' push in both the US and Canada were evangelical Christians. Source:

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See 'The Politics of Evangelical Identity' by Lydia Bean.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And this is still a popular policy in evangelical circles: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2002/july8/27.59.html

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really hope the pedo who was beaten to death wasn't falsely convicted. That would be so sad.

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 5

It's sad when they are. That isn't justice, they are doing their time, it is not up tot others to judge them.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

He may not have actually been a pedo. I've had clients who pissed off a guard, and the guard just spreads a false rumour.

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 2

Oh goody. They have allegation-as-a-weapon on the inside too.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whoa...

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Happened to a client of mine. I had to get him a copy of his criminal record and rush it to him in a visit so he could prove he wasn't.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Of course prison is dangerous, I mean the people in there aren't exactly law-abiding citizens- not that they're evil, but still dangerous.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

But you can protect them. Sounds like guards are actively putting them in danger. It doesn't matter what they've done they're in your care.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ah yes I know this well. They could learn from this.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It describes both the nazis and American prison officers dealings with torture and terrorists.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can't be Canadian. No sorry, thanks, eh, or poutine (sp?). And 'y'all'? I don’t believe you.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Lol, I'm a Canadian redneck

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

What, is that a Newfie, or something? I live north of Canada and no one says 'y'all' unless they're from the American south. Bloody annoying

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

No I'm not a cod choker I'm Alberta

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Which prison were you in?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL: Canadian put downs! :)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've heard Alberta is Canada's Texas.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That is mostly correct we are Canada's colour blind texas (first muslim mayor in Canada)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Im pretty much an American redneck, sup buddy?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Nother night in paradise friend

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What if a guard just doesn't like you, and tells an inmate you're a pedo. Then you're fucked.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Didn't you read all of it? The pedos get given false names. Their real conviction, as well as name comes to light, he got called

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Yeah, but the guards could say "that guys real name is whatever, and he's in here for pedophilia" but how do the other inmates know its true

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

by his real name and responded, therefore proving that the pedo accusation is correct. Bye Bye pedo, one less asshole to worry about.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Vigilante justice is not justice bro, emotions make for an exceptionally poor platform for judgement.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And what if he was falsely convicted or innocent? Does he still deserve to die?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do they have Dairy Queen in Canada? Like, for reals for real? Maybe I truly could live there.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But the igloos melt in the summer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Canadian here, yes we do.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We do

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh snap! With the donald moving in on the presidency, I'm looking for new citizenship. Canadian Dairy Queen, here I come!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You are very welcome :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The part about most criminals having been the victim of child molestation is really troubling.

10 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 1

Unsurprising. Guys often get into crime, and girls I knew got into prostitution (had a drug habit once, I was also a child victim)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/ Interesting that pedos (rock spiders in Aust prisons) in Canada arent kept in segregation/protection. Im all for a bit of summary justice

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Many inmates have had incredibly rough childhoods and adolescences... this is only part of it.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

I find it touching

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 8

Ugh but...+1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It goes like this: After a child has any kind of sexual contact (s)he gets stigmatized by society, and when the society itself 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

rejects you, you have very little choice but turn to crime (or prostitution in case of females, since stigma is roughly the same). It 2/?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

isn't even pedo nor child's fault - it is purely effect of social stigmatizing. Same sometimes happens to rape victims. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Shit man where in Canada are you? I was in Lindsay for a bit but the range I was on was clean and well medicated so it wasn't bad 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2/2 wouldn't be as bad as the pen though a lot of guys there were looking at pen time.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was in one of the gladiator schools if you know what I mean

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The range was pretty much all people waiting for court, and most of us are/were methadone patients (been clean since I got out 2 years ago)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Congrats on the sobriety

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Here's hoping everything goes well for you, that's a long time to be locked away and living in an extremely hostile environment

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Keep em coming OP. And I'm truly sorry to hear you guys don't have castle laws up there.

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 4

OP isnt telling the full story. Canadas laws are quite rational. About the only way this is true is if his dad was 90, in a walker, and

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

clearly not a threat. Thats the diff between Canada and America: your laws are black and white and universal, while ours use common sense

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or the judge just didn't think the shooting was "reasonable." Our laws also have a lot of room for interpretation...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Canadian lawyer: We do. Just people don't know what "castle law" means. There's no duty to retreat from your home, but force used has (1)

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

to be "reasonable under the circumstances". (2)

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

2 since I've heard of homeowners shooting intruders, wounding them, and the intruder then suing the homeowner and winning.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So I assume, an unarmed intruder isn't grounds for lethal force. Which I can understand if that's the case. It's actually messed up here 1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily true. You don't have to meet weapon for weapon, but usually lethal force requires a risk of death or serious injury from (1)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the intruder. So a guy who is just grabbing your TV wouldn't qualify, but a guy who lunges at you unarmed might still. Also, very hard (2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are castle laws?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Basically a doctrine that anyone in your house that isn't supposed to be there, you can assume is there for felonious activity.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You can neutralize threats in your home or property

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

So, violent asshole invades your home, and... you go to prison. That really, deeply disturbs me.

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 14

poor fool should have fled the country like any sane person.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Without all the facts I wonder if OP had a good lawyer. You unfortunately get the justice you can afford sometimes.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

been able to claim self defense, there might not have been enough evidence to back up anything else besides manslaughter, which is why...

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I don't know the details, but if his father didn't break anything getting into the house, and there were no other witnesses, and OP had...

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

You have no idea of the details of the case. It's quite probable the bloke telling the story isn't very impartial...

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian lawyer: I kind of wonder what was going on here--a guy breaking into your home and hurling death threats is often (1)

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Reading your thread, you can have guns, they just can't be ready to use. So the laws are trying to make self defense even more difficult.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yep. That said, it's fairly easy to get around. Handgun, biometric safe, magazine charged but not in gun. Zero to bang in a few seconds.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Here's hoping those "few seconds" aren't the difference between life and death, amirite? To each their own. I'll stay in Texas.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Not even our criminals have guns here. Someone breaks in armed with a bat or knife then you have more than a few seconds

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

well within our self-defence laws. But having a loaded handgun ready to go is not within our laws. So... there's probably more to this. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

It should be.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank God for the second amendment!

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 11

It doesn't sound like op got hit with weapons charges.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Ten years for self defense, because he shot the guy instead of letting him do whatever he wanted

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank god I live in a country where i dont have a good chance of getting shot! We have some RATIONAL gun laws here in Canada

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Getting prison for self defense doesn't sound rational to me, cultural difference I guess

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty naive if you believe everyone's story on Imgur lol. His dad would have to be 90 and in a walker to get jailed for what he did

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We're all responding to the story as presented. You're changing the story now to suit your argument.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even our criminals almost always have just bats or knives. Much safer. The American pro gun argument is circular and illogical

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not really, but then you probably have never heard the whole argument

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I suppose if you're ok with the idea of trying to catch criminals after they've robbed, raped, and/or murdered, sure, be glad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well we have a rate of 4x less gun deaths per capita so clearly working pretty well

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You want it or not, it's a murder and you can't deny that

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, and a plea of self defense does not equal innocence. Self defense is an affirmative defense. "I did this, but it was justified because.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, I'm just a dumb 'Merica-cunt, but it just seems like that's a violation of some pretty basic human rights.

10 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 11

'MCanada!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Murder? Yes, totally is.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 32

Lol no it's not. He didn't even get murder. He got a manslaughter conviction

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Youre an idiot

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

In real life, thing aren't just black or white, it's more complicated than that

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Not really. He clearly overstepped, thats why he was imprisoned for it. Not complicated

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Short answer, a firearm isn't a reasonable amount of force to repel words. Probably tried the Joudrie defense and it didn't work.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1/2 I would say not. In some countries if you kill someone in your house it is your right to do so and there are no questions asked.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

2/2 South Africa. I knew a guy from there, medic, and he saw the cops pull a guy from the front step to half in a house. Judge and jury.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

sadly here in Canada no matter the circumstances if you kill someone you go to jail 99% of the time. things get worse if guns are involved

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Yeah thats not true. Our self defense laws are still pretty strong

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The only difference between us and Americs is we have to make every "reasonable" step to not kill them.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

In other words, you have to be in immediate danger

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You shouldn't be at the mercy of random violent weirdos in your own home. Sorry, rant /off/. I'll go now.

10 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 7

You shouldn't be at the mercy of random violent weirdos in your own body, wherever you are as a woman, but you are. what human rights.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 11

This is why or pisses me off when someone asks why a person needs a gun. For exactly this type of situation.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 9

I remember a story about some drunk kid who accidentally went into the wrong house in America. Shot dead.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You shouldn't lose your life over an innocent mistake. The great thing about gun control in Canada is that even our criminals dont have guns

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

To kill? I understand the deterrence argument, but you've lost me with that one.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

Yeah, I dont either. The American's Deity is a gun; dont expect logic from them with that issue

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

...they probably didn't go with murder charges instead. They might have believed OP, but circumstances dictated different sentencing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just like Ireland....except we are not allowed to use any guns for self defence at all.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is one of those times I am actually thankful for how the law works in the United States. No WAY would he have been convicted here...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You don't know the context or details, there could be MUCH more to this story. Its not a black and white case like it sounds in 1 paragraph.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP isnt telling the full story. Canadas laws are quite rational. About the only way this is true is if his dad was 90, in a walker, and

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

clearly not a threat. Thats the diff between Canada and America: your laws are black and white and universal, while ours use common sense

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd love to hear more. Did you have a job inside? Make any real friends or were you wary of everyone? Stories about corrupt guards?

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Well a second post is definitely coming got some about my inmate jobs, and a few very good friends of mine (we are all on the outside now)

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Can't wait.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Read both posts. Really fascinating. I'm a criminal justice major and I love reading about this stuff. How did the prison help prepare (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You for being released? Did you find it hard to adjust back into society? Thanks so much for posting your experiences.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The only help the prison gave me was a three day course that was basically "remember your program skills, and this is how to do laundry"

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I actually adjusted to the street fairly quickly thanks in large part to D&D, it lets you basically work through imaginary social 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

2/? Interactions as well as do a lot of problem solving and keeps your mind and emotions active the nexy best thing I did was read and a lot

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

3/? Of working on myself and wanting to be a better person, I didn't like who I was going in but I do now

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

So if your crime happened "almost ten years ago", and it landed you a sentence of over ten years, how are you submitting these?

10 years ago | Likes 216 Dislikes 7

I guess the Canadian justice system deems browsing this shitty site a viable alternative to capital punishment. And I second that notion.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Custodial sentences become parole after they're 2/3 over.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Parole/good behavior.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was granted and still am on parole

10 years ago | Likes 563 Dislikes 2

Dude it's awful that you went to prison for defending yourself. I'm sorry you had to go through that, man.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is one of the best threads I've ever seen on imgur. I had so many favs on my other account I had to make this one. I'll remember this 1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm very sorry for the time you've served. That's not justice.

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Happy you got out!!! Stay safe! Stay happy! Stay free!!!

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

And you came straight to Imgur..

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Actually I've been out for two years

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your stories interest me. Thank you for them

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good you're out OP! Now go live the best live you can

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well there we go! Thanks for the explanation, and congrats on getting out early. Still it's bullshit that you got 10 years for self defense.

10 years ago | Likes 266 Dislikes 7

I reckon if OP had lawyered up hard he could have got a much smaller sentence, but he seems to feel remorse and accepts the consequences.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm okay with everything

What I hear there is your father was truly an evil person. Would you do it again if you had a chance at a replay?

10 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 1

In the end, I believe I would, I know it makes me a bad person but until I was released prison was the happiest I had been in my life

10 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 1

I'm amazed Canada doesn't have Castle Doctrine. What a fucking joke.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

But guns are evil and shooting people is bad!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You can get in trouble if a thief hurts himself in your home here. A little castle doctrine would be very nice.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

successfully sued the homeowner. Fucking bullshit. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I vaguely recall a case about a man who had to be hospitalised due to severely injuring himself after breaking into a house and he (1)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Plenty of US states don't either :/ You have a duty to attempt retreat prior to any lethal action.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a difference between DTR on the street and defending yourself in your home. That's stand your ground vs castle doctrine

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wikipedia says 4 states + DC with "weak or no" Castle Doctrine, and some of these just don't provide civil immunity.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah but at least you have the right at some point to exercise lethal action in your defernce. Most other countries don't.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You wanna get stabbed?

Yeah I'm really interested in these. I walked past a prison everyday from 1st-3rd grade. Always wondered what it was like inside

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Ex of mine lived within spitting distance from one.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lansing_Correctional_Facility# I always loved the architecture. And you feel almost safer being next to it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prisoners would escape every now and then but we never had a code red. Move to rich suburbs and they would lock down the school for anything

I ain't your buddy, GUY

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

I dont want to be rude but... there is something seriously wrong with your penitentiary system.

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

American prisons are even worse

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Same way in US prisons. We treat people like animals and expect them to stop. When they need help not a time out

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

In what sense? (Yes it has problems believe me) but I'm curious what in particular you mean

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

The way you describe it reminds me of an animal pen. There is no way people leave a place like that and be fit for society...

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

I was in a canadian max and I can't relate, sound more like a fantasy than an actual prison. Doesn't match my experience at all.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Where are you from? America's system is the same

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

In the movies maybe or very, very rarely. Unless you're going to the most hardcore max prison then it's usually actually very calm.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Oh it will fuck you up I agree, the only way to function when you get out is to work your ass off at everything

I'm very curious as to where you are from to have such views on prisons. Western penitentiary systems are all punishment & no reform.

Lock downs give you lots of time to contemplate

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Did the guy who killed the other guy say sorry?

10 years ago | Likes 388 Dislikes 6

Of course he did. He was Canadian.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Soarry, not soarry.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Honestly never heard if the guy who got shived behind me lived or died but the last thing the stabber said to him was "goof"

10 years ago | Likes 472 Dislikes 1

Ah so suspected pedo? Not that that fact would muffle the gurgles any I suppose...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No it is often used in situations like that because it's the most offensive thing that can get said, I think he was stabbed over debts

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

So what you're saying is, if I ever go to canadian prison I shouldn't respond if someone asks me if I'm a goofy goober?

10 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 2

Respond by punching him in the face immediately, stand up for yourself or get picked apart

10 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

Can I ask how you learnt the correct way to respond in situations? I'd have absolutely no idea, and I'm guessing there's not room for error.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

When you are new you need to find some guys who have been around for a while and then learn fast newbs a few minor breaks

Prison bro: "Lol you're quite a goof!" *gets stabbed to death* "Lol Shit. Sorry."

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thankfully I only call close or intimate females "goofball" and now I have more of an insight. We appreciate the stories, we'd like more!

Alberta and no gun allowed? This has changed my idea of Alberta, I can tell you.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have tonnes of guns, our castle doctrine laws are different though. Can't automatically shoot an intruder dead.
