Well, they just invented "100,000 more Starlink sats" last week or so after noticing that including SpaceX into stock indices didn't boost the stock price. There'll be more bullshit. All the time.
After Musk cut off the Russian military from using Starlink, their precision attack capabilities as well as their defences against Ukrainian aircraft and drones were crippled. Putin has never shown much of a sense of humour about anything and there's no way he's not mad as hell at Elmo about this. The pale white supremacist might think he's untouchable, but I certainly won't be surprised if something happens to him.
Musk is actually a part of a billionaire doomsday prepper community. The cyber truck was made for them. That's why all the emphasis on it resisting attacks from the outside. The robots are for having labor in the bunker without having the poors do it, because you can't trust the poors to not just kill you in your sleep. Or that's how he views it. Like no seriously these people are repulsed by the existence of people with a net worth under 9 digits.
Elmo has a cult. Check the comments for videos on YouTube showing another SpaceX rocket blowing up. Because he's building and launching rockets, to his cult that means he can do NO wrong. They absolutely lose their shit over little things like calling him Elmo. I was booted off an aviation-themed forum for doing that, not for also suggesting he's a Russian asset. Just for calling him Elmo. They will let him do anything he wants as long as he keeps telling them he's sending a spaceship to Mars.
His cult has been waning for years that's why he's had to replace a lot of them with an army of bots or changing algorithms to ensure the smaller amounts of fanning over him is shoved down people's throats. It's all a false perspective of him he knows majority of people find him a detriment to society and one of the largest losers on the planet.
He just looks like a huge pile of shit that promises more than he deliver while designing cars that look and are made worse than a dumpster. His Tesla line is only popular because it plays off the people who designed it as something that actually works.
Wasn't the point of the tunnel scam to literally derail efforts by CA to build high speed train transportation? Wasn't his vision "oh yeah high speed rail is nice, but wouldn't my vacuum tunnel that was twice as fast be way more neat?" Then he distracted the lawmakers just long enough to get what he wanted, then killed the tunnels after only a few test runs. At least they made a commercial flame thrower thingy. https://www.boringcompany.com/not-a-flamethrower
I was a PC games journalist in 2000/2001 whenever it was Molyneux was doing press for Black & White. I interviewed him (on the phone). He told me deadset the game would let you do "anything physically sensible" (as in, that makes sense, under physics). This turned out to be pick up some trees, some rocks, and slapping your creature around so it didn't literally eat shit and die.
Molyneux seems to actually believe his own hype, though. He makes ridiculous promises that his games never deliver on because he thinks they *can*. Still not a great person, because he works his developers to the bone to try and make his "vision" happen, then more often than not blames them when it fails. But Musk is a straight-up grifter, who *knows* the stuff he's promising is impossible, and just says it to manipulate the market, or get people to stop funding alternatives.
This tendency to give people who have impossible expectations and abuse others in an effort to meet them a pass because they seem really sincere, is how you get fucking grifters. The world has way more narcissistic bullshitters who reinvent reality as necessary than mustacheoed villains deliberately selling snake oil. Musk believed in a lot of his bullshit projects right up until they were going to fail, and then suddenly the objective was something else all along.
The Boring Company is extremely well named. Musk's entire MO is to promise the amazing, do nothing for months on end, and then ultimately deliver the Boring.
Case in point, Hyperloop. He promised us high-speed rail in a vacuum, that could potentially cross the entire country in less than a day. What we got is a tunnel 3/4 of a mile long, in Vegas, where a guy in a Tesla drives you along at 30 mph. And it only serves one convention center, during conventions.
Literally the only point of that was to divert funds that were otherwise going to go towards repairing and expanding existing light rail in the southwest. He knew it would never work, but he also knew efficient public transit would cut into is car company profits, thus his "alternative to trains" was born.
And he's not even pretending to hide that. If I purposely killed something popular for my own gain, I'd keep that the biggest secret. He doesn't even care because he has no concept of shame.
Same thing with him admitting the only reason he bought twitter was because he didn't like that marginalized people like his trans daughter used it to stay in touch and get organized, and he wanted to put a stop to that.
At least Molyneux has/had some credibility and most of his claims come from a place of love. He really did want to see his claims come true in his games, and is responsible for some of the greatest games of all time. While in contrast, all Elon has done is co-opt accomplishments of smarter, more talent people, just because he has money.
No. I was there when all the Fable hype happened. I remember all the promises, and I played every Fable game. Fun idea and design, but it was absolutely NOT what was promised and hyped by Molyneux. Hell, even some of the later Fable games had game designs that cheated the player intentionally. I haven't played anything from Molyneux in years because of it. He's dead to me.
I'm not defending him in anyway, I was there too. I'm just saying that in many cases, his promises/lies/overhype came from a place of love for his games. They were things he wanted to see in the game, and was either over confident, or just dumb, because they couldn't be implemented due to time, or technology. I think Fable is the best example of all of this, he promised a truly open world with stakes and consequences, we got just tiny vignettes and your character's life in segments.
It always bothered me where you'd be doing a questline and bam, you're 20yrs older, and then bam 20 again. Wasn't there even a gap where your captured and forced to be a slave? (Been a long time since I played Fable, and there is a remake out this year)
Though there has been speculation over the years if his promises/hype were planned in the original dev documents, or was he just springing them on his dev team, using the trade shows/E3/events as a place to cement such things.
Everybody stopped believing him and all his hype around the time of Fable 2. Don't get me wrong, the Fable series was one of my most beloved growing up, but after a while you'd just roll your eyes and go "suuure Pete, whatever you say".
Yup. I can right now go replay all 3 Fable games and enjoy myself and never once think of Peter. Matter of fact I might go load up Fable 3 for funsies.
Legendary Video Game developer who became head of EA, and Microsoft for a while. He made some of the greatest games of all time, but was known to over hype and over sell his games. I.E. He created Fable, one of his most known tales was that the game would grow with you, you could plant an acorn as a kid (Start of game) and you could watch it grow as the game progressed.. Sadly it never made it into the final game, but people hunted for it. He did this with all his later games, way overhyped them
But this overhype came from a place of love, he wanted these features and things in his game. However, they usually didn't have the time or technology to make It happen.
Had to double check, after Bullfrog qas bought oit, he was promoted VP of EA, which he left to form Lionhead. Then, when Microsoft bought Lionhead, he was promoted to Creative Director for Microsoft Game Studios.
He wasn't head of either, not by a long shot, although he was hired into high positions in their creative departments for a brief window of time. Both times were a result of his studio being acquired more than anything, and short lived.
He's one of those "celebrity" designers who's overinflated reputation is based on hype and unfulfilled promises more than actual ability.
Dungeon Keeper will always be one of my favorite games, though.
Excuse me, he was VP of EA after EA bought put Bullfrog, but left the position to form LionHead. Which was then bought by Microsoft , where he was promoted to creative director. So yea, high up but not as high as I thought. Thank you
Even when he was getting a lot of flak for over promising and under delivering I still kind of respected him, as a guy who was just excited about making things, but he's really gone off the deep end with NFT's and every other tech fad.
Okay, no, now you're splitting hairs. A gamerbro is a techbro, especially one on the level of Molyneux or Carmack, or Romero.
Hell, they might be the FIRST techbros. They created the promise big, deliver small, fix it with day one patches business model. Vaporware as a concept began in gaming, and let me close with this- we got "insert outlandish occurrence" before we got GTA 6/Half Life 3/Duke Nukem Forever.

Carmack doesn't belong in the same sentence as Molyneux. Molyneux is on par with David Cage when it comes to video game design.
