After Musk cut off the Russian military from using Starlink, their precision attack capabilities as well as their defences against Ukrainian aircraft and drones were crippled. I was a PC games journalist in 2000/2001 whenever it was Molyneux was doing press for Black & White. I interviewed him (on the phone). He told me deadset the game would let you do "anything physically sensible" (as in, that makes sense, under physics). This turned out to be pick up some trees, some rocks, and slapping your creature around so it didn't literally eat shit and die.

Molyneux seems to actually believe his own hype, though. He makes ridiculous promises that his games never deliver on because he thinks they *can*. Still not a great person, because he works his developers to the bone to try and make his "vision" happen, then more often than not blames them when it fails. But Musk is a straight-up grifter, who *knows* the stuff he's promising is impossible, and just says it to manipulate the market, or get people to stop funding alternatives.

At least Molyneux has/had some credibility and most of his claims come from a place of love. He really did want to see his claims come true in his games, and is responsible for some of the greatest games of all time.
While in contrast, all Elon has done is co-opt accomplishments of smarter, more talent people, just because he has money.

No. I was there when all the Fable hype happened. I remember all the promises, and I played every Fable game. Fun idea and design, but it was absolutely NOT what was promised and hyped by Molyneux. Hell, even some of the later Fable games had game designs that cheated the player intentionally. I haven't played anything from Molyneux in years because of it. He's dead to me.

I'm not defending him in anyway, I was there too. I'm just saying that in many cases, his promises/lies/overhype came from a place of love for his games. They were things he wanted to see in the game, and was either over confident, or just dumb, because they couldn't be implemented due to time, or technology.
I think Fable is the best example of all of this, he promised a truly open world with stakes and consequences, we got just tiny vignettes and your character's life in segments.

Legendary Video Game developer who became head of EA, and Microsoft for a while.
He made some of the greatest games of all time, but was known to over hype and over sell his games.
I.E. He created Fable, one of his most known tales was that the game would grow with you, you could plant an acorn as a kid (Start of game) and you could watch it grow as the game progressed.. Sadly it never made it into the final game, but people hunted for it.
He did this with all his later games, way overhyped them

Then, when Microsoft bought Lionhead, he was promoted to Creative Director for Microsoft Game Studios.

He wasn't head of either, not by a long shot, although he was hired into high positions in their creative departments for a brief window of time. Both times were a result of his studio being acquired more than anything, and short lived.
He's one of those "celebrity" designers who's overinflated reputation is based on hype and unfulfilled promises more than actual ability.
Dungeon Keeper will always be one of my favorite games, though.
