My youngest is a very adventurous eater. We were visiting my in-laws in Taiwan early Spring and went to one of the coastal seafood restaurants with the days catch out in front. And he zeroed in on this exact animal and they made us this exact dish. I (raised a suburban white boy) was a little squeamish on the whole thing, but it was actually real good.
I've yet to watch a movie about oversized lobsters eating people from the inside after the local government throws super-chicken poo into the water. But if I do, I'll probably be scared of eating lobsters too.
If I have any choice in the matter I will eat something other than a shell in lobster. Is that even the right term? I don't mind the taste I just don't like the very concept of digging the meat out of the creature.

I remember eating some crayfish -- y'know, peeling them, cracking the claws and sucking out the meat and juices, that whole thing -- when suddenly it was like a switch flipped in my head and my brain suddenly went "Dude. This is fucked up. Like, seriously fucked up. What the fuck." Had to stop then and there. Haven't eaten any crustaceans since. The closest I get is surimi for sushi, which isn't really close at all, as it's not made of crab ;)

...but shrimp also have the bug-ness? If whole Lobster gives you the oogies, get a Lobster tail. They're very easy to cook yourself so you don't have to break the bank at a restaurant. Use kitchen shears to cut along the shell until you get to fins. Pull the tail meat away from the shell wall a bit but you don't have to pull it all the way out. Put a couple slices of butter along the meat and sprinkle with paprika and bake. Can't remember temp but it take ~15 min

I once got a variety pack of pepperoni. They were made from various creatures (elk, caribou, buffalo, beef, pork, beaver, etc.). They all tasted exactly the same: like pepperoni. It's been a few years now. I remember eating some crayfish -- y'know, peeling them, cracking the claws and sucking out the meat and juices, that whole thing -- when suddenly it was like a switch flipped in my head and my brain suddenly went "Dude. This is fucked up. Like, seriously fucked up. What the fuck." Had to stop then and there. Haven't eaten any crustaceans since. The closest I get is surimi for sushi, which isn't really close at all, as it's not made of crab ;)

...but shrimp also have the bug-ness? If whole Lobster gives you the oogies, get a Lobster tail. They're very easy to cook yourself so you don't have to break the bank at a restaurant. Use kitchen shears to cut along the shell until you get to fins. Pull the tail meat away from the shell wall a bit but you don't have to pull it all the way out. Put a couple slices of butter along the meat and sprinkle with paprika and bake. Can't remember temp but it take ~15 min

I once got a variety pack of pepperoni. They were made from various creatures (elk, caribou, buffalo, beef, pork, beaver, etc.). They all tasted exactly the same: like pepperoni. I had half the sandwich but with my seafood aversion, it was clearly a good sandwich for me to polish off half. Frying fixes a world of seafood hurt. Po'boys are the shit when done right

It's the inescapable briny taste (that can be mitigated by preparation of course but part of most dishes is preserving the briny umami) and texture I can't get past. I've eaten adventurously. Yeah not a seafood guy. And not to be weird about it but yeah I'm thinking dog would taste pretty good. IN A SURVIVAL SITUATION, PEOPLE I'm not inviting anybody over for dogburgers. Hell guinea pigs were originally domesticated as a food source, you wouldn't eat a guinea pig? Racist.

I’d eat a guinea pig. No hesitation. Never met one I liked. I imagine rat tastes like squirrel (just fine). I like chicken and I’ve met a few that were cool. I’ve also met a few I’d have happily taken from living to dinner myself. Same with cows and horses. I really like horses but I’ve met a few that I’d rather deal with as BBQ than ride.
That isopod looks tasty.
I’m also good with going vegetarian (nothing against vegans either though I think dairy and eggs could be done ethically).

The best kitchen staff i ever worked with was mostly Ecuadorian and I remember my chef was doing a fancy FAQ dinner and he was telling me his favorite part was all the white people going *gasp* guinea pigs no! Funny story. Also at that job a friend had guinea pigs as pets and they ate their babies for guinea pig reasons and she started crying telling the story. That was less fun

That's hilarious about the chef. The husband of friend of mine is from Peru and she said the first time she traveled with him to visit his family she was offered guinea pig and she had the same reaction. Lol
And man, poor friend. Had a similar experience with hamsters as a kid. The mom ended up pregnant and ate one of the babies, for hamster reasons. Was pretty traumatizing to my little kid brain but makes for a funny story.
