In a move that could have been forseen by literally anyone who thought for a few seconds, farmers are realizing that their near-to-slave gravy train is going to end.

Personally, I am cynical and suspect we'll be hearing about the bold new plan to force convicts into farming and just fully lean into modern day slavery in America.

https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-mass-deportation-farmers-1987371

@GreyEyes1973 said this, "And instead of farmers hiring immigrants directly, the for profit prisons will charge the farmers for the labor instead. The immigrants just become slave labor and hiring illegals is no longer illegal. Sure it'll cost a bit more but they won't have to worry about ICE raids or big fines for undocumenteds on job sites."

I think it's more likely the detained "migrants" will be slaved out to their former employers, so the only issue for the farmers is moral.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I feel a certain amount of empathy: it's going to be tough for those farmers, but I feel zero sympathy for them. They lit this barn on fire and closed themselves in it and here we are.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Well, this is what they overwhelmingly voted for.

No fucking shit sherlocks. I get that there is a severe problem with right-wing propaganda disguising itself as news as well as social media echo chambers, but holy shit, we’ve got some unbelievably stupid mf’s in this country.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The GOP and especially the Christian Right have been going after and eroding education for a LONGGGGGG time. They wanted this, and it is part of a very long game and it has been a long term goal. Stupid people = Republican voters.

The Stinking Orange Moron also said he would create healthcare that was better than Obamacare, and cheaper, and would cover everyone. He's a lying cunt. He also said he would build a wall that Mexico would pay for. He lied again.

Naw if they start using prison labor it’s going to be worse. Because why the fuck do they care about any level of quality.

My wife commented on all of the house construction lately, everyone getting the work done early before it's near impossible later.

2 years ago | Likes 121 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah as someone that's worked construction. You're about to see a huge drop in construction workers and a sky rocket in the price tag. The Mexican workers, work harder, longer, and are very efficient. Now you'll have to over pay by a lot, to train workers and most will quit anyway. Simply, cause no money in the world allows some people to tolerate 95 degree days on a roof, or the constant pain of your body on weekdays and the weekends, and not wanting to go outside during free time.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know you and your wife obviously know this, but for a lot of people this will be a helluva revelation. And it's not just me. A lot of contractors complain about how no matter how much they offer they can't find people. And other states have tried prison workers too do farm labor as well. They just want to be outside the yard they don't work that hard cause we'll the job sucks and .50 cents an hour

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Farmers are held up as so pure, wholesome patriots - while 'exporting' jobs within our borders by hiring unauthorized workers and paying them sub-legal wages. This isn't the first time farmers have panicked because of the threat of workers being deported in large numbers. The solution suggested back then? Using inmates. This was the middle 2000s.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I mean, fuck, he did the EXACT SAME GODDAMN THING LAST TIME HE WAS ELECTED.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Trump: Starts deporting Mexicans. Mexico: Raises the prices of the food we import. MAGA: They can do that?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And wow many of them voted for him?

Most, I bet. Rural. MAGA country.

I drove from LA to Tahoe in January of this year. Once you got out of the city of LA and into the agricultural areas of California, it was Trump and MAGA signs in front of *every* farm we passed

Not only farmers. The slaughterhouses. Companies like Hormel and Tyson. Office building cleaners. Construction. Road repair and road building. Lawn care. Care for senior citizens. Wait till this affects everyone.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Good, fuck them… let the crops rot, they were going to manufacture another reason to double prices again anyway, now they can have an actual reason. They’ll blame it on Biden or Obama or who the fuck cares what, anything but their precious orange Hitler.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I suspect a lot of countries might refuse to take US produce if it's too slavey.

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Tbf, a lot of countries already refuse to take US produce because it's too uncontrolled, so that might not have a huge impact.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

True - but given how the US is probably going to annoy a lot of people in the next few years it'll be a handy reason, on top of no shortage of other resaons.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You're going to have to eat everything you produce to avoid starving if this all truly goes tits up.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's not true, have you considered that they will destroy mass quantities of food to create a scarcity to drive up food? Bc they will.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I understand how important farming is to society but coming from the Central Valley in CA, farmers are some of the biggest, most selfish, entitled pieces of shit the area has ever produced.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

trump has a plan to replace the Mexicans he's planning to deport, those will be the "black jobs" now he was referring to.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

he plans to hold a sh%$@# ton of immigrants in his private prison detention facilities while they await their forced deportation... that will be another part of his massive slave labor population

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iirc in P2025 it says anyone without a job can be put into forced labor, so I would assume not only the continuation of prison slave labor but also welfare recipients are going to be targeted.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Makes you wonder what it would be like if PEOPLE PAID FUCKING ATTENTION *BEFORE* THE GODDAMNED ELECTION!!!!, don’t it?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Mhm. Unfortunately, we can't expect americans to ever do the bare minimum.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It’s absolutely disgusting how some Americans villainize immigrants while simultaneously being dependent on exploiting their labor.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Somehow immigrants are skilled and taking all of the jobs but also taking money for being unemployed and also committing tons of crime. They're very busy! Also doing nothing. It's... Honestly surprising that people don't realize enough masse it makes no sense.

It's always puzzled me how republicans can claim to be pro business. I mean sure the choices they make benefit businesses in other countries, and multi national businesses, but that's all.

They are resoundingly anti business because the jobs market is increasingly complex, requires increasingly high levels of education and high levels of education equal more liberal views as a rule.

Does he really think Tesla and SpaceX will stay in America if they can't get American employees who are 1/

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Qualified?, you can't offset those kinds of things with tax breaks, at a certain point high tech business will turn around and say thanks for all the breaks Don but I can't employ vegetables to launch my rockets or wire my electric cars circuitry; I'm off to India.

And what does he imagine that if he gets rid of all the high tech jobs the low tech jobs will come flooding back? That's not how economics work.

And the thing is I think he knows that, I think the entire republican party knows 2/

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That and their plan isn't to be protectionist and drive out immigrants etc; it's to allow their buddies to create ever larger monopolies and give them giant kickbacks for letting them. 3

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

and also I'm imaging the counter tariffs other countries will use in retaliation will impact them as well. Corn and soybeans are big exports

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Hope everyone can get used to having a big hot cup of high fructose corn syrup in the morning.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And it'll cost $19/oz because some hedge fund will have bought all of the corn producers in the US after all federal and judicial power to regulate monopolies gets wiped out.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dont forget the retaliation tariffs imposed by whoever imports our products. Those will cause foreign consumers to buy from other countries. Just like they did the first time Trump did this. Thats why massive government assistance was given to farmers.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

People in France are already wondering if we should soon boycott all US products. Might have to.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And after that, no US economy.

This is not an accident, this is not a mistake that that asshat is making. This is all calculated, this is going to work out just fine for trump's daddy putin

Which, at 4% unemployment, will be damn hard to find.

Add dry or tinned pulses if you can (lentils, chickpeas, etc). They're cheap, they keep like crazy, help vary your diet and bring a ton of proteins and a lot of helpful fiber.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

May I also recommend herbs and spices? I go through oregano like a crazy person. And things like cinnamon and vanilla don't grow in the states.

good suggestions. ill add those to my list.

This will raise their costs and so the costs of their products, making it more expensive for common people to put a meal on the table.

2 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 1

We will all starve.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, then the common human should get a higher wage... oh, wait, that's socialism, can't have that in the US of Ass. Guess a lot more people will starve or end up in prison.

2 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

and the prisoners will be sent to the fields, to work for free

2 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

The prisoners won't see any of the money, but they won't be working for free...

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

That has potential to make inflation skyrocket and weaken the dollar to it's lowest point in ages.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

3 missed meals...

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah I know the choices sucked this year, it was between puppies for everyone and diarrhea forever and I just didn’t feel like Harris gave enough details on what kind of puppies that would be, and I’ve had diarrhea before and so that somehow seemed more familiar and comfortable.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cheap labor gets deported, making food more expensive, farmers complain they can’t make ends meet, the Farm Bill gets bigger, farms consolidate further, and eventually private prisons will loan out their food-riot prisoners to corporate farms so that BigAg can meet their quarterly projections. May the leopards feast.

2 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

I had a flash of intuition today that told me this was exactly the plan. Stop and Frisk will become the norm again, which will balloon the prison population, which will be used as labor on farms, further enriching the prison industry.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Rfk jr wants to have drug addicts go "wellness centers" which he describes as working on farms with access to zero technology while also receiving a reeducation program. He also clarified this applies to anyone on anxiety/depression meds or adhd meds too.

2 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 2

Many of the anecdotes I've seen have been social media posts about so-and-so working for company Z blah blah boss won't be able to give raises blah blah tariffs. IOW, many are likely apocryphal drivel written by people that want to see that stuff happen.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Sure, there's a lot of that, but I was specifically thinking of news items like this.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Musk even promised an economic collapse, but it would be better afterward.

Yeah, when a Democrat gets elected (if there are any future elections) to once again fix a Republican mess.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

We need to stop with the "if we have elections" stuff. Stop obeying in advance. This was not a landslide & people are going to fight back. We NEED to fight back. They can't take what is not easily given, and we need to stop assuming they can and will. The majority is SLIM, don't let them fucking forget it, and we fight and we take that shit back. Hold them accountable for EVERY. SINGLE. BULLSHIT. THING. It's going to be horrible, but we shouldn't lay down & let them have ANYTHING via assumption.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The thing is, it completely puzzles me. The panicked finding out seemed to start the day after the election. Literally the day after the election. Who is stupid enough to vote for something and then look it up AFTER the election? (I mean, apparently roughly 70 million americans, but it still boggles my mind)

2 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

There's a very simple explanation. The second Trump was declared the winner he switched from promising to delivering, so NOW the chucklefucks are looking into how he can deliver and finding out those nice little details that make up reality.

Aka they wanted to see Trump win more than actually improving anything for anyone.

They voted for racism and sexism and homophobia and thought that all this talk about tariffs, social security and stuff they don't understand was just dog whistles because he can't speak openly what they think. They didn't think any of it would be actually followed through.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Oh no, don’t let them fool you. They knew it would be followed through, but the one issue they agree with is what matters to them.

Republicans notoriously vote on a single issue. To them, the other stuff is worth it if they get their way in the one category that matters to them.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

All I can do is laugh and think "fuckem" .

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Yea, except it’s going to affect other people like me and you, so by saying “fuck em” you’re really saying it to yourself.

You’re going to be the one that’s paying for those tariffs and the labor increases.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm in the "fuck em" mindset too. Yes it's obviously going to affect me, but he was elected and I can't change that. I voted, I donated, I tried to convince people, and now I'm done. I'm out of energy, I'm out of fucks to give, and I'm just going to do my best to insulate myself and the people I love from this disaster as much as I can. And I'll sit back and laugh at the people who voted for the leopards while their faces are being eaten, cuz that's all I can do now.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh I know. Difference is i know so I won't bitch. And I won't listen to any trumpers bitch either.

I hate what Trump and MAGA turned me into. I have gradually seen myself go from an optimistic idealist certain that most people are good and kind and just need a bit of empathy shown to them for their own to shine back, to a jaded cynic who's now trying his best simply to find some humor in the slow motion implosion of the country and society he loved. I do hope they get exactly what they voted for, and I hope they get more than their fair share of the pain it'll cause people.

Just had this argument. Trumper says farm hands have work visa’s. Some do, I’d be curious to see the numbers.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I assure you the majority of one’s working in south Ga do not. Those farmers are screwed and they just don’t know it yet.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same in California. Trumpers need to take their kids out of school and send them to the fields. We need to show up at farms if the military does.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is statistically not true. It is, always has been, and always will be as simple as "money." At the end of the day, the average American cares about nothing more than their own financial self interest.
