That was a good woman. A woman who saw the fear and helped. It didn't matter the reality of the adult world the nun saw a child in need and saw the power she could use to dissuade the fear and used it effectively. Not all catholics are fuck heads. Most are though

Used to babysit a kid who was deathly afraid of assorted monsters so one day i got a very official looking spray bottle and filled it with water and a few assorted scents (including a few drops of his moms perfume) and told him it was monster repellant and he slept much easier after. He was just terrified about the idea of helplessness, and needed a totem to make him feel safe

“helped” is doing a lot of lifting there - she reinforced an irrational fear making it more likely for the kid to be afraid for longer before shedding it.
Help would have been to reassure the kid that it’s just fiction with no basis in reality, just like religion.
But you couldn’t have a cult member diss their own cult could you?

Plenty of rational people can raise children without reinforcing irrational beliefs when they inevitably get infected by some through exposure to pop-culture or via their peers from kindergarten or school.
