Beans and rice having a big come back. Cheese best be careful. It's starting to look mighty decadent. Eggs are straight out the question. They're closing beef meat processing plants. So don't even ask.
An indicator of a decreasing economy is the $ of gas. The US is not making more gas than a year ago & are importing less. So the supply of gas has not gone up. Yet a tiny price drop is reported. So that can only mean less demand. Some will say it's cuz of less driving in the winter but refineries already cut gas production to make more heating oil. They always do that. So w/ the price of gold up, the $ down, bean sales & gas, recent fed rate cut, all suggestive of heading into a recession.
We have some livestock & they get a grain mix ("COB", a mix of corn, oats, & barley with some molasses; around $20 for a 40lb bag). I recently evaluated the possibility of using the livestock feed as a boiled porridge/kasha. It wasn't great but neither was it terrible. I hate that I'm having to have these options open.
ever try the beans from rancho gordo? thems some tasty ass beans.
i imagine its mostly just different varieties and not being old as fuck from sitting on a store shelf forever, but i actually enjoy beans in some dishes these days.
I can't help but remember that the story of Joshua Norton I began with bean futures collapsing. Then he declared himself Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico and dissolved the Republic and the Democratic parties. And stopped lynchings in street by SHAMING the racists. A great legend for selling newspapers in the 19th century, would be great if it were true. No one is coming to save us.

Seriously though, beans are Hella cheap and really nutritious, and also way better for the environment than meat.
