(back in my day as a child we were never encouraged to play in the street.) but while they stopped cars there was no plan to stop bicycles and it was on the city's busiest bike route. something must have happened because the thing shutdown just after it opened.

the cars were already pruned down to a minimum by the turn restrictions at the intersection of the street/bike route and the major streets at each end of the neighbourhood section of the bike route the only real traffic is bicycles, packs of them, if that's the right term. i've seen it evolve over time since i've lived on it for decades, from before anyone even thought of bike routes.

It's really hard to attack a politician that people LIKE. It's personally shocking too me because NYS has a long history of hating ALL of our Politicians, from the second they take office. But Mamdani has managed to buck that, and that says how popular he is.

I had a lot of problems living in the San Fran area, but one of the best things they did was, during covid, they shut down vehicle traffic on the JFK Promenade through Golden Gate Park. They only let bikes and pedestrians use it, once covid ended, they kept it that way, and it was an amazing little community area.

My daughter had my inconveniently big truck in college, (only thing I had available on short notice,) and while she was externing in Boston, she just drove into the train depot and just took a train into Boston proper. She had no desire to put one tire on an actual city street in that big truck. They can be scary.

I grew up an hour from Boston and we still go back to visit family a couple times a year, so I get it. I never liked driving around the city. We took the kids to the NE Aquarium several years ago. Hit Faneuil Hall and a couple other sights too. Even just in my SUV I felt like I was driving a school bus.

As ugly and idiot the car is. It makes more sense then every other SUV in NYC, except other EV-Trucks, like a Lightning. EV have the advantage to consume insanly low Power in a City. Around 225MPGe. Without any strain on the clutch. Of course something like a Mustang Mach-E which is a Cross over and smaller makes more sense. Or other BEV with a lower Footprint. There are choices out there. (Even a Model-Y would be a better Choice). But a Swasticar makes sense in NYC technically

Imo the best SUV/Truck for NYC would be a F150 Lightning, looks like a normal F150 and has a gigantic Frunk, as big as normal cars boots. And when you use a Car in NYC you most likely need it for transporting something, so the flatbet comes in.
