What it looks like when you're born with one ear too low and finally get surgery to lift it

Let's see the before

Good luck with the recovery!! It looks great already :)

*sigh* people would say did you get a hair cut. .and my grandpa would say. ."no i got my ears lowered"... Glad it went well, hope it heals fast and you are happy with the results. Good luck.

I have a scar like that; but it was to remove a tumor.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey @OP question. Did you only had your outer ear moved or did you also have some surgeries in the inner ear? How does that work.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My inner ear was mostly in the right place but I've had impaired on that side forever, I'm hoping that once the swelling goes down I will be able to hear better

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Treat yourself with amazing sunglasses!!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Was the ear canal and all the auditory organs low too or was it just the outside part?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Salivary gland cancer?

no before pix?

That's how most labs look 98 percent of the time.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that was me I'd tell people I got hit in the face with a broken bottle, while I was trying to save a bag of kittens off the road.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had a friend in grade school with an identical scar, and that's what he told people it was from, getting his ear moved up. Then he'd say "jk", he had to get lymph nodes removed.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can you hear higher frequencies now?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Is it called a lobe-otomy?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Can you hear me now?

What?

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Well 'ear me out...

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sir, this is Wendy's

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you pulling my ear?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank God. I thought you'd been attacked by the buck one-fifties.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Man spent his whole life dealing with that and I imagine it wasn’t painless in school, either.
Well done and good on you. Here: ⬆️.

Now that I think on it, I really wasn’t being insensitive with the up arrow.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

If you dont mind me asking was it the outer ear or the whole thing needed moving? Very cool either way ^^

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No offense....how far down was it and that scar is better?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The scar is the outline of where the ear was, genius.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

Scars are cool and I can wear sunglasses now

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Good on ya, mate!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Out of curiosity are you deaf in that ear?

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Partially

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

So they didn't redirect it all with some kind of Marshall speaker?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I feel your pain.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Jeez for a second I thought I was looking at a tympanoplasty like I had last year but yours is way more metal

For reference: /gallery/qftzQTG

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah they had to pull off most of my face and be careful with my facial nerves

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Did they need to mess around inside your ear at all? I lost my sense of taste on half my tongue for 6 months cuz of that surgery

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Funny you should say that, I severed my tongue 16 years ago (they can sew tongues back on) so my taste had been weird for a while

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

What? How did that happen?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lol jeez man give your head a break

Did they reposition the ear canal along with the relocation & am I asking too many questions?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They moved it as best they could but I've always had diminished hearing on that side

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, how on earth did that happen??

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fell out of bed.

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie 'em in a knot?
Can you tie 'em in a bow?
Can you throw 'em o'er your shoulder
Like a continental soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

That's a load of bullshit. I suggest looking the song up on wikipedia.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seriously, I only know this song from Biker Mice from Mars.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they sag when they are wet?
Do they stiffen when they dry?
Can you semaphore your neighbor with a minimum of labor?
Do your ears hang high?

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Do your ears stick out?
Can you waggle them about?
Can you flap them up and down
As you fly around the town?
Can you shut them up for sure
When you hear an awful bore?
Do your ears stick out?

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Dooo youuur ears twist round?
Can you point them at a sound?
Can you lay them back and down
Like a German Shepherd hound?
Can you keep them on a swivel
For step-mother's endless drivel?
Do your ears. Twist. Round?

Tried to read it to my SO, I laughed so hard I had to let him read it. He sang it and I still have tears running down my cheeks, thx.

This rhyme only works with a heavy "ore nore!"-style Australian accent.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not any moe

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Aw you messed up the rhyme

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Not anymore
They don’t wobble like before

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Not... any... more hang low, they won't wobble two and fro, cannot tie them in a knot, cannot tie them in a bow. can't be thrown o'er yer shoulder, like an OR doctor soldier, his ears DON'T 🥁 HANG 🎶 LOW 🐔

As someone who won a fight with cancer, this is my face when someone makes a quality cancer joke. This was fantastic , hopefully they find some humor in it too.

2 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

It's a old song

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But it checks out.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm well aware it's an old song, I just thought it was fiendishly clever.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've only heard that song using "boobs" instead of "ears".

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Lullaby?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've only heard it as "balls".

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

"Son of a monkey spank"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should try "what if your butt was gone" by Carla Ulbrich. Written after she had a long illnes and her meds did some strange things to her. She also wrote "what if your girlfriend was gone".

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok...If it's cool with you....I want to see where it was before the surgery. The scar makes it seem like it was a drastic move. I'm curious how the surgery shifts everything and what impact it will have on your hearing.

2 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 0

If it's something which I'm sure had a major bearing on his childhood mentally (bullying etc, cos you know what kids are like) then I'm sure a drastic move is well worth the risk)

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Very few pictures of that side of my face ever

2 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

Fair enough, how is your hearing now?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, if you wouldn't mind could I ask 'how' bad the difference is? I think one of my ears is almost 1" lower. My glasses never fit right and have to be altered and are always crooked... Probably not worth doing this?

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Understandable.

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

This right here is all the explanation I'd need.

I'm really sorry you've been tormented by that for so long, and I hope the healing is internal as well as external.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

after the surgery were you looking in slightly the wrong places for the origins of sounds until you adjusted?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I didn't find out until I was an adult that my left ear is bigger than my right. I was getting a haircut and she was lining up the sideburns. Haha. Wouldn't have ever noticed it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a similar scar and surgery, but that's because a spicy potato rapidly persuaded my ear and half of my face to be on the wall at the other end of the room.
Mine looked bad for about three years, and now people don't even notice it until I point it out.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I thought you literally meant spicy potato, like you had an awful allergic reaction.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is spicy potato a euphemism for grenade?

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Yes indeed

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

For me, it is.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Tea cup dog. 🤔

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Oh maybe that's it. I was thinking kitten, but a grenade is also pretty spicy

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I doubt it's a kitten. Mine's tried to eat my eyebrows, and didn't have nearly enough impact to launch them.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
