Imagine the amount of hate they must get from people who don’t understand what’s happening.

Conversion doesn't need to be productive, it's just the background noise of socialisation so we aren't lonely. Its why people keep TVs on in the background when alone at home and why it's important to visit old people to chat in order to prevent them feeling isolated.
My best mate had tourrettes and it's the reason we started hanging out. 11th grade English class, first day, the teacher said no cussing in class unless you're quoting something or you are Weston. I tapped the guy in front of me's shoulder and said "how come you get to fucking cuss?" He said cuz he had tourettes. I was like holy shit fr? We became pretty close soon after.
Because it's actually unimaginably cruel to use disabled people as a source of laughs at their suffering for the sake of profit. @CampbellsChunkyCyst covers the suffering part of it really well in their comment, so I'm covering the cruelty of treating it as hilarious-entertainment in mine.
Because constantly triggering each other's tics for weeks and months on end would hurt them in ways neurotypical people can't fathom. It takes a lot of calm and meditation and thought exercises and stress-free environments to keep the tics from becoming overwhelming. The key to managing tics is to avoid focusing on them at all and continue on without thinking about them or having anyone call attention to them. I can't even imagine how long it took them to get over this one filming session.
Even Sweet Anita (from the post above) has some triggers. There are people who are triggered by words so much so, that they can injure themselves with their tics. Imagine if every time you heard the word 'Can opener' you would end up having an episode where you literally scream as loud as you can until you start coughing up blood after minutes or even hours? Could they use this type of situation as a way to learn how to control their ticks when they feel out of control, kinda like therapy or would it not work like that at all?
I have Tourette's, and there is no true control, no adaptation. Tics occur as an urge, and you can hold that urge off for a bit, but it will build and build. Eventually you will give in and tic. Imagine sneezing, but it's just a part of your life. What I'm saying here is that they just happen. They worsen with stress and when you focus on them, but there's nothing that can really be done. Fun fact, I've picked up new tics from other people with Tourette's as well.
Same reason my wife, who went to Cal Tech, really hates Big Bang Theory. It doesn't feel great when people win emmies for mocking you and your friends.
Just being a nerd is mocked so hard on that show, regardless of autism. I think only one character was autistic, but the whole group of smart people are just mocked through the whole show simply for being interested in and deeply knowledgeable about things.
