#2 In elementary school I used to look at various pantheons in the encyclopedia when I was bored, aside from the times I would look up naval warship classifications. Encyclopedias had a lot of stuff in them is probably an obvious statement, but information in books is neat because it's locked in time from when it was written or published. I still have a hardcover world atlas from 2004ish that was a Christmas present. Things 2'x2' and a few inches thick.

They were making some absolutely idiotic claim with no evidence to back it up and people kept calling them out on it, and the person just kept digging a deeper hole. Eventually they tried defending themself by claiming they asked chatGPT to analyze the argument and that it told them everyone was being mean to them for no reason.

Even before AI, sometimes you had to explain to people that things like internet search results were curated to them, and the only reason google's autocomplete for "hillary clinton" showed as "Hillary Clinton lizard person" is because they're akways searching stuff like "Taylor swift lizard person" or "hillary Clinton evil."

Took me over a week, I had 3 comments. guy who sent it to me was pissed, said this is not what I expect from a thorough review, complained to my manager, sent it to another engineer w 20yrs seniority on me. He replied with 2 comments. During the meeting was asked a question, said "I think x, but apples knows more than me about that" Guess who didn't go to my manager to rescind his complaint about my work after that?

lol Yeah, the giant "earth dragon" Naga summoned. God I love that movie and the series, saw the movie first though some time back in the late 90s, teen me fell in love with it served as my gateway for the series. While for a lot of girls their go-to anime series was Sailor Moon, but for me it was Slayers, doesn't get near the attention it should imo.

I refuse to believe that orange, the fruit, was named before orange, the color. The most likely sequence of events was probably something like, "Hmmm, that's an odd looking fruit, I wonder what it is?" Other guy: "Well, it's orange, so ...".

Oranges are tropical fruit and are pale green to yellow when ripe, unless exposed to colder climate. It wasn't until they were grown in europe that their orange color was their common color. Oranges still grown in tropical climates are actually treated after picking so they will color up. So, they were called oranges before they were the color.

Entirely possible, but the image is still bizarrely mangled. Zoom in and see. Could be an AI upscaler, or just other kinds of digital cruft that's built up with multiple re-saves, or who knows what. But it definitely is freaky looking now

While I think I understand what you mean, look at the picture. The the cut out pieces of the picture in the body of the post are different than the very picture in the post. This is some AI upscaling or some shit if its not entirely generated. The text also looks wonky in some parts.

Someone had the image saved, after it was recropped and reposted several times, which would have loaded it down with jpg artifacts. They then tried to increase the size, which made it blurry, so they sharpened it, which made it look weird, and then tried to smooth it out again to get rid of that. But none of that makes it A.i. generated.
