There is no "job to do"... the republicans just vote on what they are told to by the people who own them. As we now clearly see, you don't even need to be alive to hold the position. They don't represent the best interests or any interests of their constituents... they do the bidding of their owners. They have no plans or policies to serve their voters. Even a corpse can hold the "job" of republican senator because they are just empty placeholders going through the motions of being lawmakers.

I remember seeing a video where there were cops interrogating a guy about a murder (maybe more than one?), and it was sped up the same way, and while the cops all buzzed around him in the video like hyperactive jumping spiders, the murderer didn't move at all. Evidently he was later deemed criminally insane.
For the record, though, I'm SURE Mitch is fine, mentally and physically.

It never thought of a situation where one party simply doesnt give a fuck and then gets power in all 4 'branches'. House, Senate, POTUS and SCOTUS. What is people elect psycho's in all positions of power and dont give a fuck about laws anymore? Thats what we're seeing in USA right now.

Hungary recently got rid of Orban but that took 20 years. Putin was elected... in Poland they elected a dangerous right wing extremist as president and Germany is about to vote in the fascistic AfD and I;m not sure if Germany can get rid of the AfD ever. The founders absolutely did consider the possibility of the government running amok and no longer serving the people. In fact it was the second thing they thought of, the solution being that the people's right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
We aren't quite there yet. However If things don't correct course with the elections in November, then I don't see any other remedy

To be fair tho, as a representative republic established by the landed gentry who thought only the wealthy could be trusted to govern properly, this was always bound to happen. We don't have a direct democracy so the actual people never elect anyone, literally just the rich ruling class who act as our representative class pretend to take their constituents into account whenever they get elected and then they just do whatever makes them the most money from lobbyists. It was always doomed to fail.

Direct democracy isn't elected democracy, it would be having people vote on every legislative issue, rather than a representative democracy where people vote to elect people to vote on legislative issues.

Which is why we also have to flip the distribution of authority to come from the bottom up instead of the top down so people not directly involved do not have power to influence shit that doesn't concern them or things that have no working knowledge of.
We need to stop structuring all of society around arbitrary hierarchies that allow a small few to control the masses through systemic power.

I think most countries have the system. In 'normal' countries the House (or equivalent) write the rules, once a majority agrees it goes to the Senate (or eq) who only rejects the new bill in exceptional cases and the president (or eq) almost always rubberstamps it. The difference between USA and the rest is that Trump is able to write executive orders. That is the 'top down' America needs to eliminate.

Even local politics are ineffective, because you can go down to any public meetings you want and make all of the best points that can ever be conceived, yet you'll still be met by a group of people who have been sitting in their chairs longer than you've been alive who stare at you with cold indifference as they hear what you're saying and see everyone there agree with you and then simply choose to do the exact opposite because their masters paid them to do it.

Ok but there isnt a single 'direct' democracy in the world as far as I know because that would be impossible and personally I would hate the idea anyone can vote for anything, ESPECIALLY when people use their vote as 'protest vote' or whatever insane crap. And secondly: whenever people get the chance to vote for a good person, they do not vote for him/her. Americans could have voted for Mamdani's, but they simply didnt. They voted on raising minimum wage. The bill failed because people voted against it. In 2024 people could vote for a literal convict billionaire vs a centrist, and they voted for the criminal.
