I think the messaging problem is inherent to the party and its constituency. Specifically, people like me are to blame. I know I distrust charisma and pithy slogans from politicians and want long, boring, policy speeches. Charisma actively makes me dismiss a candidate as 'non serious'. But, it does seem that for a lot of voters, this sort of thing matters. It baffles me, but nevertheless here we are.

That's actually a really good question. While I dispise it, us Americans tend to love the dirty and nitty-gritty. Trump is all of that. We sit here and focus on how awful he is instead of the actual "boring" impactful stuff Biden is doing. And instead of helping them his administration has actively worked to keep title 42 going, has implemented a new broken system when criticized for maintaining Trump's border policies, has denied a fucking genocide in the UN, and continues to arm Netanyahu with tax payer money. Yeah but also much of that is on Congress and previous administrations(not even just Trump). Biden has done a lot to try and stop the situation in Gaza from spiraling (or even starting) but the sad thing is that he doesn't actually have a lot of control or ways that won't make things worse.
