My friends kids: "Do you know what 6-7 means?"
Me: "Do YOU?"
My friends kids: ". . . no"
AmericanDreamIsDead
#9 The viral phrase "six, seven" comes from rapper Skrilla's song "Doot Doot.". It doesn’t actually have a meaning. So I always follow up with; 89. Without meaning, anything fits
brianbrian4566
#1 it doesn't work that way but ok!

#9 in the context of the source material, it references the police-radio call for a homicide.
In common parlance it is a shibboleth, it's meaning removed from the sounds and become a key indicator of "In", and theirfore, "Out" groups.
shib·bo·leth ˈshi-bə-ləth : a word or saying used by adherents of a party, sect, or belief and usually regarded by others as empty of real meaning
grandfalloon
It was an embarassingly long time before I learned that a shibboleth is NOT some Lovecraftian horror.

#9 I don’t know what 67 means….which gives me an excuse to call my nephew tomorrow and annoy him by asking him to explain what 67 means after which I shall complain about the youths and their slang and then proceed to misuse all the slang words he has tried to teach me! It’s fun lol!
ThM1ck
I try to string as many of the words as I can think of into one sentence. It makes my granddaughter want to claw hee ears off.
NewUsernameWhoDis
My understanding is that it is meaningless, which is the point, a thing that is said for the sake of saying it. Anyone asking if you know what it means by definition doesn't know what it means. While it had a meaning in the song it originated from, that has been discarded as the phrase itself became popular.
Asifwaswere
Thank you for this synopsis! I really appreciate you breaking it down like this for us non-youths lol
ImperfectDad
I think the linguistic oroboris is interesting. "We didn't understand what it meant so we started using it to mean nonsense and so now no one understands what it means... and that's what it means."
Asifwaswere
Ooh “linguistic oroboris” what a fun phrase
Thank you I shall add it to my collection of things to say to make myself smile

I don’t know, there’s a lot of guys out there that seem to think they can be programmed to be either straight or gay. It’s a strange philosophy.

I mean, it could have gone the other way... look at Tulio and Miguel.

Still up there as one of my favourite scenes ever.
OtterlyMagnificent
As someone who figured out I was bisexual because of movies like this and The Mummy...I was not straight and the lesbian half of me was moving further and further from straight every second she was on screen.
CapttainKillJoy
The meme isn’t about “realizing” anything, it’s about programming through imagery. You were already who you are. The image just helped you see it. I hear the “schools are making kids gay” crowd all the time, and I tell them that no outside influence could make me gay, even as a child. They don’t realize that by saying otherwise, they’re admitting they believe they could be or could have been induced to be gay. I don’t agree with them. You are who you are.
NurseNotSoJoy
AHH! Chel was my big Bi lightbulb moment too!
Of course, being raised in a strict and religious family, I had no one to talk to about it and it took years for me to finally fully realize and understand….
OtterlyMagnificent
SAME...The first person I met who could have understood, I was still pretty deep in the closet (And as a trans person, I was deep in TWO closets)...My senior year GF was bisexual, and polyamorous. My brother took her girlfriend to prom, which was amusing. I wish I'd been able to come out to her...
NurseNotSoJoy
Two closets had to be a rough experience! I hope you’re able to be yourself now, and freely comfortable in your own skin, and have happiness in your life!
OtterlyMagnificent
Yeah. It's much nicer.
JustAnInternetPerson
#2 So... my cousin is called Lucas. He's older than me by about 10 years or so.
When I was learning to speak, I couldn't say Lucas properly and called him "Lua" instead, which means "Moon" in our language (Portuguese).
From there on out, he became Lua. Everybody's been calling him that for his entire life. His family, friends, close friends, wife, even his daughters and son call him Lua.
lostinthoughts
I called my brother "Pip", because I couldn't pronounce Philipp. Still use the name for him today. He calls me Babbl (like bubble)
timmargh
My cousin‘s name was Simon but everyone called him Corky, his wife and parents included. The only problem is, no one can remember where the name Corky came from.
Riggityriggitywrecked1
My cats name was Zero and my little sister would pronounce it as “Dreebo”, so henceforth he became Dreebo and different variations like Dreeb, Dreebster… lol it was the cutest thing
DyspronsiumAddict
I want to hear that he went as DS-9 for halloween.
Responding to confused looks: "I'm no moon (Lua), I'm a space station!"
sundaymondayhippyday
That is so wholesome
sunshinehouse98
Omg brasileiro????
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I have the same kind of thing. I don't want to reveal my name but basically it's long and my brother couldn't say it so he just said the last syllable (of three). And that's been my name ever since.
sundaymondayhippyday
Hello Y’all?

#4 As cross cultural gifts go, that's fucken excellent.
coffeebaby
He seems thrilled to receive it. I wonder if he's a fan of Lego.
sjleegketting
Only villains dont like lego. They like the alternate brands just to mess with our heads.
SalmonTheWise
From what I hear he's an example of villains liking Lego too. Only a soulless husk with no sense of joy like Trump or Putin wouldn't like Lego.
DexterDouglas
He's a fan of human rights violations and tyranny. Saw on other posts of this that it's important to remember hes a terrible dictator, and that just because WE love Lego doesn't make him human like us.
sundaymondayhippyday
That’s fair.
But it does make it apparent that not all his joy is from tyranny!
JoystickJ
If you don't think tyrants and dictators are human, you need better history lessons. Never forget that you and I are both the same kind of creature as Pol Pot and Stalin.
evilspock
TBH I'd like one too. Lego is never a bad gift.
Targe0
And they don't depreciate in value.
Unlike a lot of plastic collectables.
Lego is actually a fairly solid investment.
evilspock
Very specific sets, if you can keep them pristine maybe. But you can also go buy lego sets on clearance for 80% off.
I've bought pillowcases and giant cardboard boxes of random lego for $5-10 - a tiny fraction of the original cost. It's my favorite way to increase my hoard.
ThrowingSchadenfreude
I have the White House set (including the East Wing), pristine & unopened. Wonder if that one will appreciate for nostalgia's sake. :(
Targe0
Yes actual sets.
Random blocks, less so.
It's actually to the point that a lot of international drug rings have used Lego as payment.
Because customs doesn't get alerted when it's a shipment of Lego. And because the sets hold their value basically anywhere in the world, it is easily converted into cash without people asking questions about where it came from. And most importantly, they can be bought with cash.
sundaymondayhippyday
How do ye have knowledge of this,
Breaking Bad of Lego human?….
DrProfessorRocketSurgeon
Also a universal response to getting a Lego set.
azazyel
I hope he builds it. I mean it could be fun for him and his staff to do for the hell of it.
FriendlySkynet
Imagine the dutch and egypt foreign ministers immediately sitting down and discussing their business over building a lego set.
DrProfessorRocketSurgeon
Pity the poor soul that loses any of the blocks...
I just remembered, I have the lunar lander and Saturn V sets I never put together.
