EDIT: Freaky 29th Frontpage! Thank you very much, Imgurians! Be awesome to each other! I do reviews as a hobby, and this week I checked "The Invite"! Is it as good as people are saying? You can see it here: https://youtu.be/NQOn2IF-e9I

#6 whatever artist did this, i think they did almost the exact same image for Omni magazine as well. It's eerily familiar

#6 I remembered this one from Mechanismo by Harry Harrison, 1978. It's Womandroid by Jennifer Eachus.

The tradition started with the pulp magazines that created the genre. Here is a great article on the subject. https://activemaas.wordpress.com/2023/08/04/nudity-on-the-newsstands-100-pulp-covers/

Was Phillip Jose Farmer a better erotica writer than he was a SF writer? ‘Cause aside from the very first one, all the riverworld books were kinda dog water =\

Honestly, where Tanith Lee is concerned, the covers are not even close to the graphic content of the actual writing. I picked up The Secret Books of Venus series at a garage sale when I was 11, and that shit made me the pervert I am today.

Never read her other work, but did I read The Silver Metal Lover when I was a kid just because I liked the cover art. It really wasn't graphic at all, and the sex was mostly implied. Mostly it's just a young woman running away from home with her fancy bard-droid and debating if robots had souls.

Still didn't stop me from becoming the pervert I am today though.

I guess some of us are just destined to be deplorable, lol. I do recommend her other works, she's got an amazing voice. I believe Humble Bundle has an ebook bundle of her work right now, if you're cool with reading like that.

I used to collect science fiction paperbacks from various short story compilations and then through the golden age. I've got some very not safe for work ones that were printed in Germany

#7 all those boobs (with tits out, even !) And then you get to this guy and we don't even get VPL. Where's the gender equality!

#9 This book was written by Philipe Jose Farmer under the pseudonym Kilgore Trout which was a character in books by Kurt Vonnegut, who was based on Theodore Sturgeon.

I had a reprint where they changed the author to Farmer and used the classic Venus image. I wonder where that is?

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

2 days ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Okay, that's news to me--I knew Trout was a character based on Sturgeon, and was ready to call bullshit on that cover. I had no idea that Farmer had actually written that.

2 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Theodore Sturgeon died in the city I live in. I have no idea why I remember that.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah that is completely fucking funny. I love discovering the various Adventures of Kilgore trout in the various threads through Kurt Vonnegut's novels.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kilgore Trout might be a name i have to steal for my next DnD or Shadowrun character...

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This book is kinda okay actually.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More than a character, it was kinda supposed to be him right? And iirc he also penned quite a few short stories for magazines and the like, under the pseudonym Kilgore Trout.

One of my favorite science fiction books as a teenager was Phillip Jose farmers ultraviolent Armageddon book called "tongues of the moon "

Lots of explosions and fools getting capped by burpers

#1 okay is this actually a book with a robot-fucker romance story in it? Or am i being lied to, i want to know before i invest myself in it

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well…it’s a real book, and Anne Droid is the protagonist’s lover, but I don’t know how much boot knocking is actually depicted in it.
