Meh. The redbaxk ain't that bad. I've had one living in the bottom corner of my bedroom window for a couple of years now. It's only about 2 feet from my bed.
Ok so that is exceptional and also wilfully misinfornation-y. That appears to be an almost freshly hatched baby snake, Redback aren't really any bigger than a black widow, they're basically the same species and "australian blackwidow" is not a phrase except in this video and when explaining to your american house guest how the Huntsman is friendly and this little bugger is not. I guess if left alone this spider could sip up a little liquid snake flesh but 99.9% snake will remain where it is.
Red backs and black widows have very strong webs. Usually an easy way to tell what a random web is made by. Run your fingers through it. You can hear it snap.
Lived Down Under for two years. Red backs like hiding under things. Coworker spotted one on the underside of a church pew. Didn’t see any snakes. Had sheep, kangaroos, and emus in our front yard at times. People were friendly. I highly recommend visiting Oz. Just stay away from Victoria Bitters, aka VB or Green Death.
There's a hilarious podcast called The Oddbox that has an episode called Pedipalps. That's the only other time I've heard that word. It makes spiders sound way cuter than they are.
Okay but if you get INTO spiders you come to find them cute... I used to be scared shitless of the Giant House Spiders here and now I have a tarantula and poke the house spiders when I find them rofl. It helps that they're kind of the "adorable bumbling moron" cliche. Spiders can and will get themselves into THE stupidest situations and you've got to bail them out of them.
Their North American cousin, the Black Widow, can be surprisingly chill. I once accidentally ended up brushing a couple by blindly reaching under some yard furniture, and they didn't bite me
Not so much really. The last recorded death purely from the red back bite was in 1955 whereas Dugites/Western Browns killed maybe half a dozen people in the last 20 years.

So do you kill the spider ir leave it to catch more snakes?
jewelergeorgia
Am I seeing tiny legs on that snake?
drunkninjasmurf
sakm
TBF that's a REALLY tiny snake. Like less than a cm in diameter.
4etherling
Yeah, it's no different than a black widow catching a ring neck snake in the USA.
Ivalicenyan
Some women say that a cm is very large
Nathanyel
how much did you pay them?

Spider/snake adaptation of "Old Man and the Sea" incoming.
Servo87
How many days/weeks worth of food would that be for the spider?
Boopdoot
That's gotta be a tiny snake. Any Redbacks i've ever seen were pretty small. Like rubber on the end of a pencil at most.
witalaska4
That is going to be one big fat spider after that meal

Australian spiders when they are engulfed in flame:
InspectorA5
The whole continent burns every year. It only weeds out the weak.
BenjyX55
So you're saying that once a year isn't enough.

Australian people are awesome but everything else in that place can go fuck itself.

I’d be concerned about it getting pregnant and then aaaalllll the little spiderlings in your bedroom.
chrispisme
how long do they live, normally without outside influences such as a boot or swatter or flame thrower

Red Back boots are the very best work boot on the planet, and are worth paying the exorbitant price to get them shipped from Australia

Holy shit! How many spiders does That take!?

I think it’s also a baby snake

Did you know some snakes are tiny without being babies?

You can see the spider throwing down additional lines and anchoring to different parts of the web to spread the force, too.
SewerRanger
It's also a very tiny snake. Those spiders get about .5" long at full sized. That snake is probably a baby - around 6" long

I'm sorry, are those the fucking fangs on that thing at 0:48?

They are. Ngl, bit intimidated by that.

the really tiny things you can see that arent the legs are the mandibles.

Pedipalps. Basically a fifth set of mini-legs that help to manipulate food & feel the environment

DarwinsAgain
The spider isn't the one to worry about. The snake looks like a juvenile Dugite or Western Brown snake which is extremely venomous.
throwaway12345432
I mean, the spider can and will still kill you, but whilst redbacks are dangerous, if left alone, they are not typically aggressive.
