Everyone knows by now that Iran shot down a US drone. Where the drone was located is disputed, was it in International Waters? Was it in Iran's territory?

Regardless, with Trump's response as well as sending 1,000 troops back to the Middle East, things are starting to look a little more grim. (Source: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/us-sending-1-000-more-troops-to-middle-east)

Combine this with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's recent interview with Hugh Hewitt, a conservative radio host, and how they closed the interview...

Source: https://www.hughhewitt.com/secretary-of-state-mike-pompeo-on-iran/

As well as what Pompeo reportedly told military leaders in a closed conference where Pompeo is linking Al Qaeda with Iran, thus opening the doors for an Iranian conflict that skirts Congressional approval because of the 9/11 bill authorizing the President to pursue military action against Al Qaeda...

Tiny Octopus is an old man and doesn't have to worry about being recalled any more, but a lot of you could find your inactive reserve status activated, could be stop lossed, or even drafted.

Edit: Forgot to cite the draft comment. In 2017, the National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service was created to explore the ramifications of including women in mandatory Selective Service (aka, the draft) registration as a result of the military allowing women in combat roles. The full report is due to be issued March 2020. The interim report is found here: https://inspire2serve.gov/content/reports

I sincerely hope it never comes to that, because a war with Iran will be a much different proposition than the war in Iraq was.

And lest we forget, our President already warned us about starting a war with Iran and wagging the dog to win a Presidential election.

As always, Tiny Octopus refrains from any partisan commentary, and used sources that fall on both sides of the political spectrum.

He does remind you however, to vote in 2020.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

One example, Pelosi has already said IC information shows that the drone was in international waters.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Trump is the only one talking about sending our country to war immediately afterwards. That is all on him.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12. The US asks aircraft to identify themselves much further out, and has exclusive economic rights much further out, but 12 miles is 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

the extent of US sovereign territory. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

History? Unrelated fun fact, some states can draft you into their state militia even today.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because they were already having issues filling the ranks in the previous wars, resorting to reactivating older service members and

I think what he's saying is make the draft a thing that you opt into instead of something you are mandated to register for.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yea so as I said or a secondary reserves which is just pointless. Like I get it everyone is scared of the draft but it has a purpose

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

A mandatory draft registration should not exist in a free society. It's literally forced conscription.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Which would negate the entire reason for the draft.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It'll be fun to see what happens when Russia steps up for Iran.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Russia and Iran aren't really allies, only by convenience in Syria. Russia might sell Iran some very overpriced weapons systems.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Israel launched a (possibly intentional, possibly accidental) airstrike on a US ship once. Actual people died, not robots. Still no war.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Does it matter? This absolutely *is* another Gulf of Tonkin incident.

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Evidence? I stopped believing in most conspiracy theories.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The fact that our gov't. has been lying about such provocations for decades, and Trump needs a war to stay in office?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think a war will hurt Trump's re-election chances. I think him not going into a new conflict has helped him.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No war President has ever been defeated (plus Wilson & FDR, when war was obviously coming).

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If it continues you could see a price increase on crude oil but of now I don't see a point.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wouldn't be a war, just an invasion. "just" ...

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. War needs some serious shit to start. Look at Turkey downing a manned Russian jet killing the pilot a few years ago. Russia didn't 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

retaliate aggressively. To start a war over an unmanned drone is just insane. If US starts a war it is because they secretly wanted it 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I played EUIV. I didn't give a fuck about the Casus Belli, I just wanted land :D (in this case, I guess it's money)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Could've been that the other king's daughter's squire's dog stepped on my foot, now thousands will die. SAD

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wag the dog. And trump hates dogs.

7 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 19

Hold on i dont like the guy but didnt he say he doesnt have time for dogs? which is a perfectly reasonable excuse for not having one

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 12

BS, he watches television for like 6 hours or more a day. He has time.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 7

If that were true which i cant be sure unless you live with the man, why must he give up his relaxing time to be forced to have a dog?

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

some people like spending time doing nothing, which doesnt mean they're available, they're busy doing nothing

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 10

Listen, he can just not want a dog, and that's fine. But he says he doesn't have time for it, which is a lie. He lies about everything.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

How is it for everything trump does, theres a tweet he did years ago against it.

7 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 10

Pick any politician....They all do it

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

No not to this degree they don't. People who defend him like to say this, but it's just not the truth. Not even 10%.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Trump has so many tweets it's like a weird version of infinite monkeys typing on typewriters producing Shakespeare.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

OMFG, spit coke on the screen... beautiful!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He said it himself, "I don't stand by anything" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fs4KTZwEluI

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because he is completely bereft of an actual ethos or morality. He believes whatever is most convenient for him personally at any given time

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

This, and a great big case of lacking self awareness.

Because he's a flip-flopping Idiot.

7 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 4

You just described 99% of the people in politics.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 11

It's not just him, Fox news flips the same way (EG criticizing Obama as "inexperienced" for being willing to negotiate with N Korea but -

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

praising Trump). My family all buy into this shit, they also think it's right if Trump does it but wrong if Obama did it. Usually the -

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

justification is either that Obama did it wrong or outright denialism that it's the same thing.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cunt*

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think flip-flopping accurately describes it. It's more like a "what I do is always right, what others do is always wrong" mentality.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I think in the cases above, its that he always assumes people will do the same things he would do in their spot.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In other words, Accuse the other side of doing what you yourself are guilty of - or in this case, what he would do.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's the entire policy of this administration in a nut shell.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In other words, arrogant.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Narcissist is the word you're looking for. Severe personality disorder. Should have been DQed long before becoming a candidate.

Be careful associating your service with your personal political views on social media sites

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Also, be careful of posting pictures of you in uniform as well.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For sure, but posting pictures on this site probably won't get you in trouble with the UCMJ like making comments might my dude

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m a lady, and I’m not dumb enough or junior enough to make mistakes like that.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And I am from California, where everyone is a dude. No offense intended! Best of luck on deployment!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Appreciate your concern random stranger, but I’m well aware of the possible issues with doing so. I don’t post anything political so I’m ok!

Cadet. He never earned the rank of private.

"Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make." - Lord Farquaard, but also probably Trump

Even if it's true, "you blew up our robot so we're gonna kill your people" is the justification of an absolute bully.

7 years ago | Likes 263 Dislikes 41

The accuracy of this statement physically hurts me.

7 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 9

You blew up you our robot so we’re gonna kill your people and our people*

7 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 6

...and an incredibly good distraction from all Trump's administrations corruption and denial of wrong doing (that few believe)

7 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 16

If America allows itself to go to war simply to boost an election campaign, then that is .evil. - or at least the indifference of good men.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I would use much harsher words to describe this action

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*robot that was spying on you

7 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 12

2/ a blantant attack on our military interests, unmanned or not.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 32

If a Russian drone was shot down in sight of the coast of Maine, would you agree with them using it as a justification for war?

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Oh I'm sure, and ending human lives in response to a loss of material is going to be a very American thing to do.

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Eh its still an attack on American property. Dont get me wrong i dont want this war as im not fond of getting shot at, but we cant just take

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 38

The United States still has not made any reparations for the time we shot down an Iranian airliner with 200+ civilians on it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what do you think america would do if a hostile country operated spy drones right at their border?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

The same thing we do when Russian bombers fly into our airspace, escort them out

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

there is a MASSIVE difference between a manned craft and a drone though. also between russia and iran for that matter. so i don't think so.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You do realize, it almost certainly *was* in their airspace, as a deliberate provocation to have a justification for war, right?

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 6

The suspected response at this time is an airstrike on the Goruk facility that launched the missile that took down the drone. Not open war.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'd say "thank god" but this strongly feels like escalation. Cui bono? The unpopular guy heading to an election.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If Iran actually attacked the tanker and shot the drone over international water, this response would be generous compared to past admins.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

a) big if. I'd like to see a lot of international site analysis. b) the proportionate response is not hellfire. Be better than your past

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And unless it's manned by Wall-e that's going to mean human life.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It may or not, but consider that the Trump admin did give a warning before the 2018 Syria strike in an attempt to prevent human casualty.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because Russians at the base. No Russians this time.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or because he knows any deaths would be taken advantage of immediately. If nothing else, the guy is decidedly not a neocon itching for war.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Also, I seem to remember a few poor sods evaporating on that one.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's like 5th century Rome on fast forward

7 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 6

I'd compare it more readily to the fall of the Republic. Trump certainly seems to think of himself as Caesar.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Seeing as the US founding fathers modeled the country on ancient Rome, it really shouldn't be surprisising.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Yea but we should at least have another two centuries or so before this shit

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

3rd century Rome wasn't much better.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How are we marking time here, 3rd century after the fall of the Republic? Or 300-400 AD? I'm a little rusty on my late Roman history TBH.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would say 200-300 AD, or more precise the time between Commodus and Diocletian. (192-284). But yeah, now we're just having history fun.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A cautious estimate says the US is moving through at triple speed, I wonder who will play the part of rhe visigoths though...

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Every 250 years. Republic Rome then Empire Rome each lasted ~250 years.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Just to be a pendant, the republic lasted from 509 BCE to 27 BCE, the empire from 27 BCE to either 476 CE (West) or 1453 CE (East). So yeah.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awkwardly, that’s about where we’re at, maybe a little longer

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we're fucked.

7 years ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 25

Are you in Iran?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 27

We have the power to stop war. The military depends very heavily on civilian cooperation with logistics and non-interference.

7 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 19

It's funny how you think this is our choice

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

It is our choice if we have the courage to make it.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It's not though, it's up to our elected officials. He is making the choice for us

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Our elected officials aren't the ones driving the trucks, loading the ships, building and maintaining the war materiel

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

... I mean... technically? But also... that didn't work for Vietnam. It took 10 years for Congress to say, "Eh... let's ease up a little."

7 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

The surest way to fail is not to try, and the fastest way to lose a war is to be afraid to fight back.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

We're not.... Iran maybe .... But not us.

7 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 73

What happened the last time the USA faced human wave attacks? Iran isn't afraid to waste Soviet levels of lives and they'll all be "martyrs"

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I doubt it'll turn into that, more likely it'll be like every other conventional us vs me war, they just run away

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

USA Vs middle East? Or are you having some mad internal conflict?

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

lmao yeah us vs middle east

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They don't have Soviet levels of life.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fortunately they dont have the manpower to support such a tactic
