View from the street.
Sunsets in Arkansas are very lovely.
My boy's room nearly finished.
First night with lights on. One of my favorite milestones with new construction.
Living / dining on the way to complete.
Just got mirrors up in my bathroom tonight.
Bystandr
That white enamel shop floor paint could do the space nicely - good job !
oprondek1978
Dude, that is an awesome looking place. Very nicely done
bayarealiving
Are you even allowed to be that modern in Arkansas!? Looks great! Love the polished concrete
razorhogs
Awesome house! What part of the state do you live in? I'm from Springdale originally.
Ericshaun
I'm in Bentonville
SergiousMaximus
Very nice!
giraffytaffy
Arkansas DOES have some awesome sunsets. One of the few redeeming qualities of the Natural State.
sindail
This looks almost like a repurposed fire station, but it's not tall enough.
Ronelyn
Wild! Enjoy Arkansas. My grandparents lived there, but I think I'm too queer now to go back. Gorgeous house design!
Rubyrose99
@OP how is the material cost versus comparable property? I'd like to know if it's better to try and buy or build these days.
Ericshaun
100% buy existing over building in most areas. Substantially more expensive to build new in 2022.
Rubyrose99
Gotcha. I was afraid of that, with the last few years of the supply chain being what they are. Hopefully the prices even out. Ty!
JayJones298
I'm A fan of the ceiling coolers.....
themuttonisniceandlean
I love stained concrete floors. So easy to clean.
Smoretank
Do you need to reseal them every few years like the countertops?
AfterTheRainComesTheRainbow
I assume there's floor heaters? Else it's gonna be cold in winter. (I dunno how those work, Australia doesn't use them XD)
SayRamrod
they hurt to walk on
Smoretank
Can attest to that from working in shop all day. Ooof my back and tootsies.
LatinCowgirl
Sweet home! Congrats, great job!
AshleaAwesome
More please! Super interested. So sorry about the divorce & rough path over the last 3 years, you should be extremely proud of your progress
usualnamewasteken
I appreciate your _giant_ house numbers. Frustrates me to no end when I'm going somewhere new and the numbers are 5mm tall and painted over.
Helveticus
Oh, you better believe we're interested @op! Also, would love to see that kitchen next time! Nice work. Well done on moving on!
CatskinnerKeen
Floor lvl windows in the hall: why? Not criticizing, honestly curious.
Ericshaun
Lets in light without having to stare at my neighbor's blank brick side of their house.
thethingthatwentsplat
When I hear some one say they built their house, I always imagine them literally doing it themselves. Did you? Where did you learn how?
Ericshaun
I've been building houses since 2009. Learned on site from the contractors. I mostly managed this one.
Justtoberight
Lovely! I would add a few plants :) If you need any tips, let me know (during Covid I dove deep into the rabbit hole of plant possession)
Ericshaun
Landscaping really early next spring!
TalleyZorah
This might be goofy, but could you please post or send me the blueprints for this? I'm also looking to build! I love your house. So clean.
RevengeIsIceCream
@op, I'd also love to see blueprints or at least layouts of rooms etc
Ericshaun

RevengeIsIceCream
Thanks, looks great!

Shpielers
Oh wow that really helped understand the layout better. Nice!!!
TalleyZorah
Thank you!
30SecondsToTheMoon
Sorry to hear about the rough divorce, however you did a wonderful job with this home. Would love to see more exterior and interior pics
MeSoErnie
Maybe it's just because the leaves are covering part of it ... But the turning radius coming into that garage looks way too small, no?
Ericshaun
I drive a f150 and can turn around. I think it's leaves...
MicahtheMartian
This feels like the how to draw birds meme- "I went through a tough time in my life a year ago, and now here's my custom $1.7 mill home".
Thebeardedrhinocerous
Is that Fayetteville?
Ericshaun
Bentonville my friend
Thebeardedrhinocerous
You work for Walmart or something? Looks like a million dollar house! Incredible space, congrats!
Ericshaun
I'm the one guy up here that has never worked for Walmart. I'm in real estate and own a small design/build firm. Cheers my friend.
Thebeardedrhinocerous
This is my house in Diamond City (30 minutes north of Harrison). I didn't build it, but I am painting it.
Ericshaun
Couldn't get the link to work, I'd love to see what your project looks like!
JesusToldMe
Eye of the beholder. Props to you for building it how you wanted though.
zeramos
After a divorce? Do you rob banks for a living?
sodeeepop
Haha!
Ericshaun
100% looking into that for a side hustle.
monetellyse
Much love for Arkansas!
executivedisfunction
The pitch on the neighbor's homes speaks of significant snow loads. Pretty expensive building so flat with enough strength for that??
StSob
Probably easier to remove snow from a flat roof though.
Ericshaun
That roof pitch next door is just for looks. We very rarely get snow and more than 3 inches is exceedingly rare.
Addmagnet
Looks swish! (Although, I'm personally not a big fan of the American love of the garage being so front & centre)
Ericshaun
I had no choice on the garage, the land is at the end of a cul-de-sac that's the only spot it would fit.
TalleyZorah
Can you show an example of what you're used to? As an American, I can't imagine a "hidden" garage. Seems inconvenient!
Shpielers
There are a LOT of HOAs that require garages not be seen from the street. They can still be quite convenient, but ya know...$2M+...
TalleyZorah
Obligatory F*** HOAs

TheIronPenguin
@OP hangs potatoes in garages.
TheIronPenguin
But more seriously, @OP. That's a very nice house you designed. :)
Ericshaun
Weekends only
OkSureNoProblem
His budget? $9.4 million
Kingoftheblind
This looks pretty affordable to me. Especially if a lot of the work has been done by himself.
RandyRandalman
Affordable for who? Must be making 6 figures at least.
NoQuestionMarksInDeclarativeSentences
Name checks out.
Kingoftheblind
Small house, cheap building materials (when compared to German standards) and probably not even a cellar. 1/2
Kingoftheblind
Arkansas should also be average/below avarage regarding cost of land? 2/2
MeSoErnie
Except the cost of materials and labor skyrocketed the last couple years and that area is pretty much the only part of AR that is desirable.
LocalPumpkinHero
Holy crap what do YOU do for a living? Is it the potato thing cause I might be able to do that...
Kingoftheblind
I work as an IT consultant, specializing in SAP. Though I have a B.Sc. in Psychology and a M.Sc. in International Management.
Kingoftheblind
So yeah, I’m doing the potato thing basically.
Ericshaun
I'm in real estate plus I own my own residential design/build company. I'm the general contractor.
cassie65
I'm available for adoption lol
thegregorious
How long did it take for you to get promoted from the colonel contractor?
Jewdakris
Even longer cause he started as private contractor
flosser
A few years and a few major contracts.
Ericshaun
Mostly Private Agreements
rivershoulder
His evaluation reports got him promoted quickly. Like hi knew someone in the higher up, I bet.
MyWifeIsActuallyAHat
His uncle is the field marshal contractor
BindersOfWomen
What’s the size of the house? It’s gorgeous.
Ericshaun
2200 sq feet. Half of that is the great room with kitchen living and dining.
UsedCarSalesChick
Perfect size. Great job!
distraingotnobrakes
Your dogs are going to love those little windows by the floor
ChanceVLuck
That's a Big Ass Fan.
Wireporn
An ass fan, that large?!
duhleted
What a coincidence, I'm a big fan of asses.
majorminers
Hey yoh!!!
vakler
Me too! This is awesome, OP
lachianholler
Shoutout to Kentucky made low velocity high volume fans. ™️
ancalime
If that's the ass-fan, how big is the ass?
nosuchusername
It’s gotta be quite big I’d guess, otherwise it’s gonna get blown to the next room
EZPeaZ
*helicopter blade
MapleSyrupMafia
In case of emergency, you just airlift the whole house.
WarmLiquidGooPhase
It’s not just for your ass
Totalwombat
Good for fart wafting

My husband's company is building a BMW dealership. They will be putting those fans in. He says they cost thousands.
RabidDingo
A big ass-fan?

BORGALOOGIE
Mightyn0ob
Flowing air is so much better than still air. I'd kill to have that fan in my apt
MayorOfCanada
I'm a big fan of it
iamthelawl
It’s not a fan. It’s a death trap that when rotating at high speed is to be lowered onto unsuspecting victims.
NotQuiteEntirelyUnlikeTea
Looks to be a big ceiling fan to me.
ThatJuanTime
What’s an ass fan?
LateNightBunnyParty
It's a brand called Big Ass Fans. I have one. It's awesome.
StenYngve
Someone less interested in them boobies
tentacularfleshscape
Not much, what the ass fan with you
conkles
This is actually a brand of fans
oldguyexlurker
With an interesting history of how they came about. Their history with MacroAir is disturbing.
SwagicalYololord
Can confirm. They got some at CBRN in Lackland. First time I saw those babies.
CongratsYouAreHereNow
What is cbrn and where is lackland
SwagicalYololord
It stands for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear defense training. Lackland is in San Antonio.
CongratsYouAreHereNow
Canadian bureau of rural neighborhoods?
LateNightBunnyParty
Pretty sure that's why they made the comment.
cosonfused
that's the joke
Ericshaun
While technically it is a very big fan, I'm too cheap to buy an actual Big Ass Fan. It is a ten footer tho. Moves a ton of air.
Tastesicle
Any fan is an ass fan if you're brave enough.
myproudburner
Paige no!

Ya gotta.

How is this house situated on a road…..it appears you have a drive way but the other homes don’t….
CreepyPhlox
The house next door has a driveway that slopes down behind the plants. The house next to that probably has 1 out of view on the other side.
Ericshaun
They do, shared drive between them. We are on a cul-de-sac. It's in the center of town.
ToastedEverythingBagel
Large Tushie Fan?
Simusar
As a 6'5" man, a 10' fan is the stuff of nightmares.
yesdearmetoo
First time I ever saw one. My reaction was, that's a big ass fan. Not knowing it was the actual name of the company.
oldguyexlurker
It's not for all of these big fans. The originator of the HVLS, large fan is a company now called MacroAir. BigAss literally piggybacked.
DeZaim
High volume low speed?
oldguyexlurker
Yes.
maststick
Is Arkansas hot?
Ericshaun
Not too bad, pretty mild here. I'm in the extreme NW corner of the state just south of Missouri.
maststick
Fair enough. I assumed those fans were expensive so I thought to bother putting one in it would have to be scorching sometime
Ericshaun
This one was $400 from home depot. I just like the breeze and thought it would look cool. Cheers!
acidebob
Would you happen to have your floir plans I'm really curious
Ericshaun
Yes I do. I designed this from the ground up. I'll share them in a post soon!
Ericshaun

acidebob
Thanks for sharing
Ericshaun
Of course!
quietwalker
We've got a few of those Big Ass Fans in our warehouses, they're great.
ProlificFizz
I want more put up in mine. They're amazing
fpsnoob
First engine shop I worked in had those. I loved them, but people trying to do documentation on paper hated them
HairyChairstepper
We got some in our factory. Not so great for us. Mostly stirred hot air and 40 years of rafter dust
tarasue714
Those are made by a small company here in Kentucky! We are very proud of Big Ass Fans!!!!!!
SarcasticComment
leave it to Kentucky to drink enough bourbon to say "I'm going to make a big ass fan from those helicopter parts."
tarasue714
It's called Bonifide Appalachian Enginuity.
OddlyPacific
MacroAir?
oldguyexlurker
Probably not. MacroAir is just as expensive, or close to the price of BigAss. I prefer MacroAir because their tech is better, and the 1/
rgraz65
We have a large number of BAFs in our plant. The inverters on the largest ones have been problematic, to say the least.
oldguyexlurker
MacroAir's tech is arguably better. They left gear reduction years ago. In fact, that's one of the reasons they didn't sue BAF out of 1/
oldguyexlurker
history with MacroAir/BigAss puts a sour taste in my mouth about BigAss.
