True. The problem with dream analysis is that the data are messy af, like most human behavioral studies. Add unreliable memory and communication to get fuck all of a foundation for actual research.
But treating it like literary analysis seems to work more often than not for the intense ones. At least it has for me. But I am also audhd as fuck, so analyzing my weird ass dreams has been a major way of coping with my alexithymia when the emotions get too big to parse in the waking world.

Example of my weird ass dreams, once I had to go inside of my soul in a dream to root out a vampire lord that was hiding there.
At that point, I was a disembodied consciousness in a guided meditation. My soul was a blasted wasteland of a city with a crumbling hospital as the focal point. The voice said to "summon my soul's champion," like the standard spirit animal stuff.
Over the hill came modern Brendan Fraser driving a powerwheels ambulance making "weewooweewoo" siren noises with his mouth.

And this is after a main plotline of hunting down the vampire lord's minions and killing them with swords and a latin incantation that caused holy flames to ignite and burn the undead, but it was powered by faith and mine was dwindling. Also, the latin phrase ended up translating roughly to the "fiery lamb of the glass god," though "glassier" might be a better translation. "Igneus agnus vitreus deus"
I dunno, I haven't taken latin since highschool.
Also, the vampire was my ex but more mature.

Lol that's... quite the ride. So, here's a fun concept to roll into all of that (and part of why I say he winds up being right in roundabout ways). There's a more modern theory on why we dream that boils down to that it is part of the process of our brain consolidating long term memories. A lot of the seeming relevance of dreams might just be the timing of our brain seeing information as being ready to be consolidated and stored in a less accessible/granular way.
