I live in a conservative area in California and I see young people mostly boys that make it clear what their politics are and I just feel really compelled to tell them that they aren't going to buy their parents love by parroting them and even if they could; it's not really love.
I just find it difficult to believe they're like some fucked up opposite day version of a punk rock kid but it's a trump loving kid with loving liberal parents?

San Diego County is pretty conservative. It sent to Congress crooks like Duke Cunningham (tax evasion, mail and wire fraud) and Duncan Hunter (campaign finance violations). East SD used to be home to white power gangs. In Orange County there's uber-wealthy Newport Beach where Trump flags fly over the waterfront homes and on docked boats. Towns and whole counties become even more conservative the further they are from the coast. Many are former "sundown towns" -- you can't be black after sundown.

The weird thing is that I've never seen progressive kids rebelling against progressive parents, but the most fucked up people (in the fun punk way and also in the childhood trauma way) as adults that I know are the offspring of conservatives.

I've seen it. It's really sad, honestly and doesn't make a lot of noise when it happens. Some kids just end up hating their parents for loving them, and they just slide into the manosphere.

Some of that responsibility needs to be on them, though. They chose to keep watching when kindergarten morality taught them it was wrong. The message spoke to something disgusting that was already inside them, and they encouraged it to grow. That's why it's so hard to truly escape the many conservative cults. They only appeal to shameful aspects of our nature, and if you don't accept that and really work to improve yourself then you'll just fall face first into the next obvious grift.
