The museum of Americana right outside Philadelphia has a whole bunch of different music machines. It’s definitely worth the trip just for them let alone all the other stuff they have. It used to be some guy’s private collection
Honestly sounds like it's playing significantly faster than it's supposed to - my gut says it's at 1.5 speed, but I'd believe it's just flat out twice as fast as intended.

What were the mechanisms called that had various and multiple instruments that were automated and worked similarly to a player piano? They took up a whole room in the houses that had them. I saw a show about them years ago but cannot find anything regarding them now. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

a friend of mine who is a muscian and a busker ( plays an instrument for money legally ) played wonderwall all day at a train station he was told not to play at anymore. just to piss off security that were told he could play there.. for 8 hrs he did it
I tune players. Usually just two screws and the player mechanism tilts forward. The hight suggests the tuning pins to be positioned higher than the player system. Violins are within easy reach. I'd like to maintain this work of art.
It's not that it's particularly hard to tune, just that violins go out of tune incredibly fast. You would need to tune those pretty much every day or two if not multiple times a day if the weather changes.
I was just thinking that. The fact that the tuning pins are vertical on the violins makes everything outside of a full repair a cakewalk, and I can only imagine the bow circle is designed with the same idea in mind. Looks like a setup designed by someone who loved their work.

Looks like each violin is only being played on one string, with each instrument oriented such that the circular ’bow’ only touches that string.

You may be right about the bow. I see four strings on each violin (that I can see) but the fingering mechanism only seems to work on a single string.
