I work in IT and there are some very good use cases for SaaS but you are correct, things like word processing and spreadsheet applications have no business needing to be a subscription. They don't change or need feature additions nearly as much as other purpose designed software. Word from 2000 is still perfectly usable and sufficient in 2026. SaaS also has the inherent added risk of an increased security footprint so that trade off needs to be allowed to be a choice, not a requirement.

When the Black lives matter movement was tagged as anti-american, people pointed out that racism was so deeply rooted in USA's values that USians felt attacked by the protests. Plus they're the kings of conflating being Israeli and being Jewish, and that an attack on one is an attack on the other.
