This happened a few years ago. She told me her in-laws are insane a few times. No birthday candles, no presents, yet, no supper, yet. A perfectly prepared Elsa birthday cake, and she just walks over, cuts herself a piece, and is eating it, leaning against the counter just chillin' out. Of course, my friend flips her lid, and the mother-in-law is like, "What? Oh, come on don't be so dramatic. That's what cake is for." Seriously. What planet did this woman come from?
nanners2020
Invite her next time but tell her it starts an hour later than what you tell everyone else. She still comes but cake has already been served.
cousteau
Guess who's no longer invited to daughter's birthdays.
Andunistar
Needs hands thrown at her. Show her what dramatic is.
VinnyVeritas
"Get the FUCK out you self-centered CUNT" Because sometimes "adults" need tough love, too !
selej
Thats when you shame her by name dropping what happened.
Mack1986
What a fucking cunt. We need to use this word a lot more
Jamesstin
How old was the kid?

Some people are the main character in everyone's story.
MuffinProof
When in fact, they're not even the main character in their own story
SigilLovesSpace
This is when a slap upside the head does well.
NinjaCongo
"This happened a few years ago", posting about it is a sign you're getting to the point in your healing journey where you're ready to let go of this terrible trauma, @OP! You're brave and strong sharing this story that must have weighed you down all those years!
majortool
It didn't bother me much. I'm just the neighbour. It was just a funny story I hadn't thought about in years.
thomn8r
My father-in-law did the exact same thing last weekend at a big birthday party.
Xenarion
It's not about cake, it's about power.
SpanWolf

Hotsauceman
Wow, she sounds like a boomer Karen.
lostinthoughtinathoughlessworld
That level of disrespect merits a ban on future invites to any gathering. Being the MIL does not give her a free pass for childish behavior.
terajack2048
I think a good face smacking by the mother of the child would have been justified
newwoolmonosta
psychopath
IamnotarobitIseethenumber2
And that's when she would stop getting invites for any event from me. I wonder how she would respond if you did something similar at her birthday. bet she'd go nuclear.
imjustagurl87
Narcissist mother in laws and step mothers are a special kind of hateful breed.
BehGehBeeeehh
Cut that narcissist out of your life completely. The only other options is to get a hold of Mr. Inbetween.
my1rstlaptopwas34inchscreenup
i'm old, what are they gonna do? /s
SpanWolf
Sounds like something Cloris Leachman would have said on Malcolm in the Middle.
RoyDMercer
She sounds a tad self-centered.
IamnotarobitIseethenumber2
The more I see your name in the comments I'm just gonna reply, "Now how big a boy are you?"
froggyzoomzoomEABOD
“That’s about the right size to get ya ass whooped!”
miked854
Just a smidge.
bigheadface
sounds like my mom tbh
IMakeLotsOfReferencesAndRemakes
Mom insisted that her birthday be celebrated the same day as mine cause they were within a week of each other. Then she got with a guy who's birthday was ALSO within a week of mine and married him so their anniversary is ALSO IN THE SAME WEEK AS MY BIRTHDAY... so yeah just a wee bit self centered.
VeryLongTimeLurker
Brother, is that you?
blzrdphoto
Worse than self centered. She definitely did it just to get attention. Just to spite people. To assert dominance. To prove to everyone that she can. What a duche.
MadamPuddifoot
Bet she stops that bullshit really quickly if she gets slapped when she does shit like that.
8ang
How mad would she be when they tell her it is a decoy cake, put out specifically for her toxic behavior. Don’t even tell her: just watch her boil over when “happy birthday” is sung over a completely different, intact cake. “We bought you an Elsa cake because we thought you could use a strong, constructive female role model.”
rydecker
Proof she is crazy. Read the room. Did someone run out and get a New cake? Or , smash grandma in the head with a bottle (around the corner, where there are no cameras. Tell her not to be dramatic. F'ing geezers suck
marquettegoldeneagles
Im so over boomers, so rude they can't/dont even read which doors to come in through at stores. Its so fucking rude. They do whatever they want.
OhIfIMust
Dude.

Dude...... What does mine say? (Also username checks out)

SpanWolf
My brother did the same thing. Cut a big slice out of a birthday cake for me before I could even get home from work and have it presented to me. He knew it was my birthday, he knew our grandmother made it for me, but he just helped himself. Everything would have been fine, and he could have had all he wanted if he just waited until I got home and had a chance for the family to just say happy birthday to me. But, he wanted cake, and he wanted it NOW!
marquettegoldeneagles
So, whats his fucking excuse?. Fucking rude and inconsiderate.
SpanWolf
He can't think beyond his stomach or dick and just takes what he wants when he wants.
marquettegoldeneagles
Are they a younger sibling?
SpanWolf
Yes, but he was in his 20s at the time.
meganical
I wish I had her level of comfort in another person’s house. I can’t imagine coming over and just taking a drink out of their fridge without me having been the one to bring it to the place. I have to announce when I’m going to the bathroom so people don’t think I’m weird if I got up and went off to do something when we were having a conversation or hanging out. I will starve to death if I have to before I’d ever ruin the host’s plan by eating something like cake when it isn’t served
Jamesstin
How are you announcing it? Saying "excuse me, need to use the little girls room" or whatever is perfectly normal in basically every social gathering. You don't need to say it to everyone, just the immediate people you're with. This is assuming you know where the restroom is and it is a guest bathroom.
miked854
"Imma whip my dick out and piss in the toilet."
kadaeux
They change into a latex suit, complete with cape (there's a fan to ensure dramatic blowing) they then are compelled to climb to the highest surface of the room, strike a superhero pose and shout. "LO CITIZENS OF *peoples house name here* IT IS I SHITTERO! OFF TO SHIT MYSELF AGAIN! FEAR NOT. FOR THE DREADED TOILET WILL BE DEFEATED ONCE MORE!"
They don't get reinvited very often.... ;)
Jamesstin
You're silly
kadaeux
Thanks :D
Shoutrr
the first thing i'd do when it's her anniversary is jump on the cake the moment i see it and take a nice big slice
Navrodel
Make sure to unevenly slice the whole thing while you're at it.
trigonman3
Diagonally.
MrsBeansDad
Rookie, the first thing you do is, literally jump on the cake!
ThreeCatsOneLap
"Everyone does the cake dance on cake in the south. What are you screaming about?"
Hatlled
I had someone dump me, get married... and invite me to the wedding. I fixed her ass. I skipped meals the day before, went to the reception, and *plowed* my way thru the catering. Nothing was left standing. Never heard from her again.
Andunistar
Ngl inviting you to the wedding is kind of diabolical. Like dident the association end with them dumping you? Don't blame you for doing a raid on the catering.
MikeRInternetTraveler
A handful. Just tear a chunk of the cake out and eat it like a raccoon.
swofromtherock
I thought you meant literally jump on it and thought "hell yeah"
FestusMA
Why not both?!
MuffinProof
Jump face first. A mouth is sometimes called a cake hole.
Shoutrr
i am an asshole, but i'm not 100% an asshole....depending on intrusive thoughts
eadanke
One "whoops" away from an "Aw, fuckit, let's do this!"
Insmnyk
In this particular case, I'd like to encourage those intrusive thoughts. This lady needs a cake destroyed to understand the wrong she committed.
swofromtherock
And you know she would absolutely meltdown
Gremlynn4023
unfortunately the capacity to associate consequences with behavior for these people is comparable to a house cat. any reaction to their behavior that is not in the moment is completely lost.
quietwalker
I was out at the grocery store with my MIL (she wanted to come and secretly buy cigarettes but we wouldn't loan her a car because she's not trustworthy) and when we're done I go to return the cart and she says "Oh, don't bother, they have people for that," and I responded "I might be a garbage person but at least I can return a cart" - and apparently she took that personal and gave me the silent treatment for 3 days.
I didn't notice and it was one of her best visits!
MuffinProof
No, the "people for that" are to bring the carts from the outside storage points to the inside storage points so they'll be there to grab for shoppers.
quietwalker
She actually has a host of other issues that are problematic, and she has yet to have a trip here without getting in a major fight with either my wife or kids to the point where she says she's booking an early flight home (but never has), or with one of her "friends" back home which then involves her chain-calling everyone she knows for 3 days straight, at least 18 hours out of the day to get them to agree how she's right.
Her visits are stressful for us.
UWAGAGABLAGABLAGABA
You know you don't have to maintain contact with a family member. You can just cut them out and call it a loss. Your life will improve.
quietwalker
She is not my family member, it's not my choice to make.
RatOnnaStick
Sounds terrible. I wouldn’t expose my family to toxicity like that.
DYLANLEE79
Yeah, I'm guessing it was on purpose to fuck with the daughter in law. It's a power game.
Jamesstin
Not sure if this is some socially unaware trait of mine but I assume people aren't this shitty and even if they are, I just ignore it. Granted. I don't have kids to stand up for.
BrusselSpout

Sounds like a great way to not get invited to anything in the future. That feels like the only outcome there.
PineappleLoopsBroether
Cement shoes, immediately
MadamPuddifoot
Sounds like a great way to get slapped across the fucking face.
BigDaddysMeatWagon
Right? This is what I don't get about it. You burn your bridges and you don't see your grand kids very much anymore. Unwise move.
ArcaneM37
People like this never believe that their "family" will ever actually do that. It's just not right! Like eating a child's birthday cake without them!
DYLANLEE79
See but then she gets to complain long and loud about what a bitch the daughter in law is. She gets to play victim while at the same time avoiding any of the responsibilities that come with being a good grandmother. She will see the grandkids twice a year, never babysit, and get to play the victim, it's a win, win, win.
ArcaneM37
My parents would disagree lol. If you're going to cut them off you do it completely. It took over a year for my mom to stop texting me.
skincancerisfun
That, but worse. The relationship is only worth it to them if they are in control 100% of the time. If their time of control was 999 days out of 1000, they would be displeased, crossing their arms and shaking their head, and questioning aloud if this was reallyworth it.
BigDaddysMeatWagon
Right? I've had to cut out family members because of behavior and they act like I'm the asshole.
KellyCrazyCatLadyinTraining
I like to air their behavior publicly and let others tell them how their behavior sucks.
