I’ve got friends and family going back a few generations who have served in every branch of the military (except the newly created Space Force). Thankfully, none have made the ultimate sacrifice so far, but that doesn’t detract from the solemnity of this day of respect.

Is this to remember the people who accepted a paycheck to travel to a country to murder the inhabitants so that rich people can get richer from the resources that were located there, and ended up being killed or dying when they returned home and were left broken with debilitating trauma that eventually caused them to take their own life or dying homeless on the streets abandoned by society and suffering?

I served. You swear an oath of allegiance to the US Constitution, and the UCMJ. "Protecting the people" isn't just about fighting against invasion, but about national security interests. I know, that last phrase has been abused by leaders. Sending people to die in a war that was falsely portrayed as necessary really sucks. It's even worse when you know people who died for a cause that was a lie. I'll never forgive Bush and Trump.

I do. And I had friends that went and were changed forever. For a bunch of horse shit we shouldn’t have been involved in. I think there has to come a point when we stop celebrating the sacrifice because it romanticizes it for future generations. I suppose at a bar, it might be a real moment of mourning for a lot of people, but I was responding to the title more than the video.

I wouldn't call it a celebration, but more of an honoring... as they're still people who put their lives on the line for the nation, whether it was real to US as civilians or not. To them, the ones who died? It's as real as can be.

I always find Memorial Day more painful when you know your country is waging a war where there really was no "imminent threat" and it was all due to a fucked up war mongering administration. THIS one, Trump's... is even worse than Bush, because they weren't even clever about the falsified reason(s). They're SHIT people who should be in prison.
