Why tag it with books and reading, if neither seem to be happening?
Yep, I'll drive 6,5 hours by car or 5 hours by train (Sundays probably longer, less trains) just for some groceries.

Careful that those cats don't drop mice inside. Really happened to a guy I knew. He didn't get any sound out and found a present.

I thought Ad hoc just meant quickly, without much preparation. But I guess it can be done quick because only for this case.
My first thought was skateboard That wheel still looks small for a plane, I guess the dimensions aren't obvious ro me.

Looks like the English language just kept the old name then - while the Ferman version evolved. Not that surprising actually.
I guess Dachshund may have been used in the past, but not recently. Even a hunter I know who still uses his as hunting dog calls it Dackel.
I'm German, from the northern-ish part and the only time I heard Dachshund was in English. I don't know about the farthest north, though.
The last few were so sick from unknown causes at death I didn't really consider.
That's a good question. When I was a kid we used to eat them, but I didn't like chicken much. May have been related...
Need to dig those balls out again, they are somewhere... but most fun when it is spring/summer and I can watch.
