To be clear, I don't use both at the same time, I just wasn't sure which way I wanted it mounted. There isn't a meaningful difference, but don't pay a lot for it in either case.
If it helps, this similar to the finder I use. I have 2, one Velcro straps to my lens body, the other attaches to the flash mount. I have one of those angle bracket center the dot of light things to find the sun to get me in the ballpark when I can't find it because of the filter. After that you have to remember that the edges of the sun are 432,000 miles farther away from you than the middle is when trying to focus. My approach is usually set the focus to infinity and then back it off a tiny amount until the edges look like a crisp circle, unless there is a sun spot to focus on near the middle.
