DS9 was the most complex and sophisticated, and least cheesiest of the four series. Folks who didn't like it are like Kung Fu movie fans who hated crouching tiger hidden dragon (IYKYK) because it humanized an extremely one-dimensional genre. TNG was like a well-run school play where teens do their first exploration of heavy themes on mortality, immortality, what are memories etc? DS9's take was deeper, much more nuanced emotionally and philosophically, and way more human

It's funny because a lot of the 'heroism' that the world does honor (Dr king, Obama) comes from problems because our system gives bad people such leverage.
