You know this reminds me of a desert in Germany we call Ofenschlupfer (translades roughly to slips into the oven) it uses old bread cut into slices and then just interchamge layers of them and apple slices and douse them innthe same mixture you have there and bake it. This looks very interesting. Usually in Germany we translate Kuchen with cake and its usually not made out of bread so this is very interesting to me, that it got that name though its bread.

Not true at all!!!! As a German I can confirm all men coming in had at least 3 mm too much on their sides ;). It has to be short... otherwise those 3 mm will tangle horribly while driving 200 kmh on the autobahn.
