Yes. Calling someone non-human allows us to detach from them emotionally and pretend humans aren't capable of this violence. They are human. A 15 lb bird will have about 15 servings of that size. But most people will say to plan for about 1 lb of meat per person for Thanksgiving dinner

It's phonetic notations. The idea is one sound per written character. But then you have a bunch of subscript /superscript symbols indicating special things our speech holes do, like extra breathing, nasalization, etc. It gets very far away from human language very quickly because there are so many sounds and not so many characters
