I mean, they also get sick and die a lot more. They’re not somehow immune to disease because they live in less sanitary environments. The culture in those places just tends to put a lot less emphasis on individual importance, so health and safety tends to go by the wayside and when they do suffer the consequences they just get replaced like it’s no big deal. Lots of manual jobs like this one and plenty of desperate, poor people to do it.
I’ve definitely been struggling to care, too, but remember that we do still have some power, actually quite a lot. These billionaires and politicians are only powerful because they’re rich, and they’re only rich because we give them money. Research companies before spending money (I recently found an app called Goods Unite Us, which makes it easy, but there are others, I’m sure), and don’t spend money at places that support fascism. If we ALL do that, then they have no income.
Because most humans have an aversion to murder? And not everyone wants to throw their life away? Killing the billionaires and politicians responsible for this probably WOULD fix things, but anyone who tries will lose everything in the process. That’s not an easy thing.People deserve to live comfortable lives. It’s not their fault that the people in power fucked it up. We can’t all be heroes.But hey, if you’re so confident, why don’t YOU kill them?

A violent revolution will have deadly consequences for its participants. Are our lives somehow less valuable because of the actions of our neighbors? I live here, sure, but I didn’t choose this. What very little I can find also doesn’t make a distinction about whether these numbers are because they’re doing a bad job catch it, as implied, or if it’s just because less is coming across. I hate Trump as much as the next but I do like to make sure my info is correct-do you have sources?
I’d say the rule of thumb is to default to not try to stop anything. Even something “lighter than you” becomes unpredictably heavier when you add in the momentum of the fall or an awkward angle. On top of that, you never know what’s inside- that small toaster sized box that’s falling off the desk COULD be a toaster, but it could also be a box of lead bricks, and it’s not worth finding out. If it’s not something like a pen or a bottle of water, just let it fall and clean up after.

Honestly the really sad thing is that we could fix all this through voting with our money (boycotting bad people/businesses, spending money on good people/businesses), but everyone seems to be so deeply entrenched in the “living comfortably under fascism” option that they can’t give easy stuff up. “Oh I support LGBT but chickfilet just has such good sandwiches”. I get what you’re trying to say, but what are you surviving for at that point? To be on the run forever and hide in the woods somewhere for the rest of your life? Fascism is on the rise everywhere- there is no country to apply for asylum in, and the powers that be aren’t going to help us. The sad reality is that we all have two choices: live as comfortably as you can under their rule and turn a blind eye to their crimes, or rise up and take things back by force.
But organized boycotts of companies that support the regime? Spreading information to communities that might not be getting anything but propaganda? Even if you wanna go the killing route you have to be smarter and quieter. An army wouldn’t work, but each person just committing a single, quiet murder of one member of the opposition? All of a sudden you’ve just killed as many enemies as you have allies, and lost nobody in the process. It all takes varying amounts of courage though.
Insurrection doesn’t work anymore. It worked way back pre-1900 because the people had the same tools as the government. Some swords, maybe a musket or two, but a group of armed rebels vs a group of soldiers was roughly equal. Nowadays they have tanks. Helicopters. Drones. The fight is impossibly unfair. No, making a difference nowadays needs to be smarter. If everyone grouped up into a rebel army, they’d all die to a single missile.
If it won’t bother you, I’d say use it. A lot of us ARE afraid of what we’d become, and it stops us from doing what needs to be done. The fascists will happily kill us, as they’ve always done, and they win because “good people” are held back by morals like “not wanting to kill people”. “The burden of legacy” is such a succinct and beautiful way of putting it. I’ve had similar thoughts over the years but have always struggled with finding ways to voice it that don’t just sound downright pessimistic. Thank you for taking the time to write this.
A bit misleading- start with therapy first because there’s fewer risks/side effects, but therapy just helps you organize thoughts and find clarity. If that’s all you need, great, but sometimes the brain just doesn’t produce the right chemicals, and therapy won’t fix that. In those cases, medication can be necessary to adjust those levels. You can’t talk your way out of a chemical imbalance, and there’s nothing wrong with asking for help to manage that.
