I personally didn't vote for a priest, I voted for the person that would do the least damage to me & mine. I'll vote for him again in Nov.
Mercury was used earlier, but I remember there was some court case in early 1900s about arsenic used as a cure, but some folks died.
It was antibiotics, but before that they used some nasty concoctions to cure diseases. Arsinic for syphilis, it worked, if you didn't die.
