I understand, but this recipe has sugar added and it has to do with balance of taste, which is key in asian cusine. It's not sweet.
It is fucking needed ffs. That's the way the recipe works. Otherwise use Ketjap Manis instead of normal soy sauce. Which is soy + sugar.
And instead of making this an anti American circle jerk you people just show of your ignorance.
No it's very close to the way I make them. Instead of soy and sugar I use Ketjap Manis. Google it and tell me where it is from.
This is an Asian recipe.
