That sounds like... I don't even think I have words for what that sounds like...
D&D and Warhammer have had new editions. Not so many people playing 1st ed. D&D these days. And the gameplay is GM-driven, so it adapts.
Chess is still a thing, but we have deeper strategic games these days.

The way I look at it, nature's way of getting it right is pretty much "it doesn't die". Folk like you aim a bit higher.
