I think your definition of "successful" probably has to be pretty narrowly defined to apply to most or even any capitalist countries.
It is actually necessarily true. Capitalism only "meets the basic needs of everyone" if you narrow the scope of what constitutes "everyone." That's like looking at a gated community and declaring that capitalism works perfectly for everyone inside.
