I've always wondered how people first invented ways of making fire. I can't even fathom making the leap from seeing a fire (from lightning, presumably) and grabbing a stick and having it catch fire to imagining you could do something to create fire where there wasn't any.
Obviously fake, but I'm actually really curious how the trick is pulled off.
Bunch of match heads in the hole? Hidden butane canister underneath? "Wood" is actually some kind of styrofoam with some ignition mechanism? Soaked in lighter fluid or something and a lighting mechanism is hidden in the rod? Fire added in post using something like AfterEffects?
Feels like a sort of magic trick, and it's tickling at my brain trying to figure out the behind-the-scenes stuff as to how it's done.
I think we can discard "added in post" because some soot-marks appear on the pump-drill and also because the fire generally looks "right" to me, and i doubt they have that much budget!
Looking at it again... I think there's two chemicals in there and he's mixing them together. Or possibly it's already mixed and just needs a tiny bit of energy to get going.

You can use highly flammable material: bark, lint, or shavings. This fire got really big really quickly, so yes, something more flammable.
