Musician brains must be wild.

I firmly believe there are people who are just musicians. They see the world around them differently. Whether they pursue music as a career or just the sight. My kiddo sees things like this. I am jealous/appreciate his ability to do this. Gift not from me. How cool to see this and think, viola, it can be this. Humans, we are amazing creatures. Too cool.

I believe that clip is from 1963's From Russia With Love?

Mm yeah. This is the lady who played the girl on OP's clip, 40 years later.

RIP Chester

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Still one of my fav tracks of theirs too, Meteora was a very solid album

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Awesome factoid! The drum loop you hear added toward the end is a variation of the Amen Break. It has a very interesting history. You'll know what I mean when you hear it @ 2:20 in this video... https://youtu.be/5SaFTm2bcac?si=V9L5NCbt3-NZWDJ-

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

that's not the amen. i think it's a layered funky mule.

A lot of I See Stars' early music is Runescape samples.

Here it is, then compare it to "The Common Hours II" from End of the World Party

Kind of like the intro to Blackened by Metallica is played backwards on the album. I've listened to them since about 1986 and just found this out about 3 months ago.

This is exactly the type of shit I come to imgur for.

God she's awful at imitating Chester's style. Dumbarses shoulda begged Jennifer Weiss to join 'em.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't really care that much about her sounding like Chester. I would much prefer if she would do her thing to the old songs. The new songs they recorded to fit her style better are nicer.

But in the end it doesn't even matter. It's Linkin Park not Bob Dylan.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Neat. Now I'm making my toddler listen to 2000's alternative rock.

1 year ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Why haven't you been playing it for them already?!

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good. This is the way.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Heeeey hey hey, give the toddler the good stuff…give him the nu-metal era.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

toddlers have a choice? they are so low to the ground.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Toddlers don't have a choice. That's why I'm making him listen to it as opposed to listening to it with him.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Toddler will try so hard, but in the end it won't even matter

Applied so hard and got so far, but in the end, I wasn't even hired - LinkedIn Park.

Hybrid Theory will always have its day but to me Meteora was their best album.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Reanimation was my favorite. I still listen to it

I'm more of a Minutes to Midnight fan, but all of their albums are good.

Their new lead singer is a Scientologist and signed a letter supporting Danny Masterson, who is in prison for rape. I just think that someone who's in a cult that believes that mental illness is fake is...kind of a poor fit for this particular band for obvious reasons.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

She isn't in the Church. Her parents are (might just be her mother) but she isn't.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Per the Rolling Stone, “Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer,” (Armstrong) wrote. “Soon after, I realized I shouldn’t have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty.” The whole Scientology business still applies but yeah.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Except there's no proof that she's a Scientologist.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They had so many better options and went with her.

She matched their energy and fit the vibe of the band.

I honestly can't even comprehend how people think like this about such ordinary things. Like that video about the Beastie Boys samples blows my mind every time. I just can't comprehend taking such a small sound bite like that and out of a wider song/soundtrack

1 year ago | Likes 222 Dislikes 0

Daft punk is crazy. When you realize their samples come from 70s funk songs, it makes sense that they made Random Access Memories https://youtu.be/5AqHSvR9bqs?si=h1tTSeEk3PbpGecx

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are so many videos on their samples — which would you suggest?

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s why it takes forever for a group to put out an album now. In the sixties it was not uncommon to put out a couple albums a year.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

the cool thing is everyone's just built a different way. I'm very skilled in my field and get almost frustrated that others can't rattle off file paths or pull apart code that isn't theirs and find the error. But I can watch my fiance see a cup of coffee and accurately tell the roast. the temperature is far too hot and the grind too course for the roast all before even holding or taking a sip of it. How the HELL can they do that? We all see the world differently and it's p God damn cool.

Wait till you see bow The Prodigy made half their stuff

it's how a dozen genres have made music for 30+ years.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, they push it a bit, though, lol

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so did a lot of artists in the mid 90s. go listen to shadow, krush, goldie (rob playford, really), photek, chemical bros, spring heel jack, amon tobin, squarepusher, luke vibert, everyone on ninja tune, portishead, lamb, etc, etc.

I knew of a full, several minutes long techno song, made using the 5 seconds long drowning theme from Sonic.

Sadly it's not, AFAIA, on OCRemix any more, and I never was able to find it elsewhere.

There is a Glamorous remix that uses a speak and spell...and I can't find it anywhere...I feel your pain

I was watching Jaws 2 randomly (my parents had AMC on) and I heard this phrase of music randomly that sounded SO FAMILIAR ( https://youtu.be/LKCKCBPgJag?t=95 ), and it had me digging for like 3 hours to figure out where I knew it from.

FINALLY found it (Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera: https://youtu.be/77umP7IRxD4?si=uC9Z8z1hRPbEzZA_ ). Problem is, the music for Phantom was written in 1986 and Jaws 2 came out in 1978. Turns out, the two musical phrases are completely unrelated.

In my head canon, he's at least responsible for that song after living in Andrew Lloyd Webber's head because of that movie.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I'd like to see DJ Shadow make Firestarter with an atari 2600 and 2 audio cassettes

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I'd love to see that! Both are great art geniuses and I'm sure would've respected each other.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

prodigy were already million $ artists by the time firestarter came out. they were on top of the pops by 1991. liam definitely had a nice studio and would have been recording to DAT. atari or C64 or an amiga were standard for sequencers at that time. (paradox STILL uses a C64). shadow was using 2 turntables, a shitty mixer, and an MPC60 and made endtroducing. prodigy were groundbreakers. respect. but shadow took sampling to another level.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This sort of shit though is why Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim, amongst others) says he likes to use a sample in such a way that the original owners never notice. I'm sure not having to pay royalties for it is nice too..

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Samples under a certain length don’t require royalties right?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess it's depend on the nature of the sample, at a certain length how could you differentiate a sample from a chord, for instance?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Whats the Beastie Boys one?
Ive seen the one with Daft Punk (One More Time iirc) that really made me sit quietly for a few minutes, and one amazing mix from Stupéflip on how they made one of their most popular tracks while half-listening to classic orchestra:
