prodigy were already million $ artists by the time firestarter came out. they were on top of the pops by 1991. liam definitely had a nice studio and would have been recording to DAT. atari or C64 or an amiga were standard for sequencers at that time. (paradox STILL uses a C64). shadow was using 2 turntables, a shitty mixer, and an MPC60 and made endtroducing. prodigy were groundbreakers. respect. but shadow took sampling to another level.
This sort of shit though is why Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim, amongst others) says he likes to use a sample in such a way that the original owners never notice. I'm sure not having to pay royalties for it is nice too..
