Just curious as to the different coverage. Mine is symmetrical but I’ve seen other types of coverage as well. I remember the first time it appeared (was 11), how my mom thought it could be treated and the dermatologist offering me a tinted cream to put on the patches. I told the doctor it bothers others more than it bothers me. I’ve had some fun with it (at the expense of rude questions). I finally accepted it (age 12) as part of what makes me who I am - much like my hair color (Auburn), my height (short) and my heritage (Cajun).

Michael?

I have it, too. It splotchy and irregular. Absolutely asymmetrical. If i get a cut on my skin the area around loses melanin when healed.
Tellytop
I do. On and around my genitals, so people don't usually ask questions. I also have alopecia areata, which is a bit more visible

Yep. Mostly on my d*ck :/

Do you also have vertigo?
MamaJeaux
Only when I drink too much. Vertigo sucks. I don’t wish that on anyone!

Here come some dumb questions. Is it limited to your hands? Do you only need sunscreen on the pale parts?
Magnum314
I have to sunscreen the pale parts.
MamaJeaux
lol. I don’t mind dumb questions! It is on my hands, elbows, knees and feet in patches like on my hand. I’ve noticed that I have some 1/

on my arms from where my cat scratched me years ago that started showing up.

Also, I use sun screen pretty much the same way anyone else would.
Zreen
That's your hand at 12?
MamaJeaux

My mother in law went full. She has zero pigment
MamaJeaux
When my dermatologist offered the tinted cream, I told him that if it spread too badly I’d come back so he could bleach my skin.
thevortexmaster
I think with my inlaw it just spread over the years. Now she just wears a lot if clothes and sunscreen
MamaJeaux
That’s what happened to me too - spreading over the years.
thevortexmaster
Well I'm glad you got over it. My mother in law struggled with it. People I think weren't so forgiving in the 60's and 70's
MamaJeaux
You’re right. I grew up in the 60’s.
