FP Edit: Holy shit guys! THANK YOU! Umm.... I know! When you're done reading, why not head into the comments and regale us with tips and fuckery that you have from your time as heroes of hyrule!

Hello all you heroes, imgurians and anyone considering getting a Switch and/or Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild this christmas! This is your friendly neighborhood OP here, (Not that fucker posting a selfie on christmas. I'm right there, hanging out in the background, see?) and i'm here to give you a few tips to staying alive in the great and beautiful land of hyrule.

Hyrule is an amazing place. But it's also a place that you can lose your life pretty easily if you don't harden up. And harden up you shall, if you don't you die! So here's a few drops of wisdom to add to your morning cup of concrete.

1. REMEMBER TO FISH!

The first thing you need to know about Hyrule, is there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Every meal you eat is gonna be earned with blood, sweat, and tears. Protein is always useful, I reccomend fishing, as a fun way of getting some grub for any zelda enthusiast. There are several ways to fish, and depending on the amount of fucks you can't be bothered to give, i like to split fishing into three tiers.

Tier 1: All chill

This is the most common form of fishing. See a fish? hop in the water and carefully take it. Easy simple.

Tier 2: Less chill

This is using any sort of ranged weaponry to help fish. Very helpful if you're trying to get multiple fish but don't want to jump in and risk scaring others away. A shock arrow makes this almost too easy.

Tier 3: ZERO CHILL

The title says it all. You do not need to fish like this. It's a choice. This is for those people who's idea of ichthyology is looking at the pretty shapes the fish remains leave on the side of your GIGANTIC MURDER SMASHY-SMASHY CLUB!

So basically it's fun for the whole family!

2. Blocking saves lives.

Invest in learning to block and parry. Don't wait till you're too strong to need it. Start at the very beginning. This is by far the most useful skill you can have if you want to stay alive.

It's said that some lynel shields have blades, and thus do damage when parrying. But it's also useful to know that you can get rid of flying pests by smacking them with any shield.

3. Learn to kill Guardians, and fast. I'm gonna use the last tip as a segue into this important section of tips. While they can help you survive in Hyrule, they're indispensable in the art of staying alive. Cause if you're not able to kill a Guardian. It WILL kill you.

Now, we've already talked about blocking, yes?

Once you're a master of blocking. Dealing with Sleeping Guardians is like a walk in the park.

But what about walking guardians? Flying guardians? Those are nowhere near as easy, are they?

They can and WILL kill you if you're not careful But don't worry. You have a master of the art like me on your side! Let me tell you simple tips for facing guardians in combat that anyone can learn! These methods of killing guardians and surviving in Hyrule include...

4) Hide in plain sight. (No pun intended)
5) Learn to shoot.

Now some of you might be thinking, "Stealth? What kind of stealth tip is this? This is a Zelda game? How is stealth useful aside from certain story parts?" the answer is simple. IT CAN SAVE YOUR LIFE. If you're a new hero and you meet a guardian in the fields of Hyrule. DO NOT PANIC. And do this:

(Side note: If these instructions are unclear, do not panic. Guardians are equipped with a convenient glowing hole underneath full of ancient machinery to get your dick stuck in.)

Guardians must be reincarnations of Skyrim guards, because shooting them in the eye is a guaranteed way to make them forget you ever existed. That is IF you can hit them in the eye before they lock on. I don't care if you are okay or not with using motion controls. Just as long as you can find a way to hit the side of a barn, (or preferably, the shiny glowy death ray eye on it's face) You'll be fine and dandy. And to most enemies, crouch in a grassy field and they're basically blind to your presence!
(We're still testing to see if this works on Lynels. We have teams equipped with shiekah sensors scouring hyrule for any sign of our last volunteer and his findings. So far we've found two teeth an eyebrow and a last will and testament.)

6) Updrafts are your friend!

Do you suffer from George Washington's Disease? Have an intense need to chop down every tree you see and then, some? You won't rest until Hyrule is a desert? Then you probably have WAY MORE WOOD IN YOUR INVENTORY THAN YOU NEED! And that's a good thing. If you light 5 fires in close proximity, it creates an updraft. Updrafts create a vertical advantage! And I'm sorry, but if you think a vertical advantage doesn't matter, you probably overestimate your power.

Once you got updrafts, aim and blocking on your side, you'll be able to handle any guardian you see and never worry again. Check out these satisfied customers defeat their respective guardians with NO damage!

Exhibit A

Removing guardian legs ups their adorable factor by 10 fold! I reccomend lizal tri boomerangs. If you're just beginning the game, they can be looted from inside Hyrule castle. Just stay the hell away from the final boss and go to the lower floors, taze some lizalfos, steal their weapons when they drop it, and warp the hell out.

Exhibit B

Being able to aim might be the difference between life and death. Don't forget it. And updrafts always help stay on target.

That's all you really need to know about guardians. The rest will come to you with trial and error. Aside from that, here's a few tips for general heroing-about that it helps to know.

7) It pays to be a hero.

Yes, you can be someone's knight in shining armor. Ride in, and save the day. And you should definitely do it. Cause people don't like owing favors. And tend to give you stuff in thanks.

8) Feed your Steed.

You don't see it, but your horse has a life bar. A few apples now and then might be the difference between it dying from a stray arrow today, or tanking a hit from a guardian and getting you to safety tomorrow.
9) Feed your OTHER steed.

I don't know how it manages to turn anything from monster viscera, to actual food, to even rocks and minerals into power and fuel, and frankly, i'm afraid to ask. But it gets you from point A to point B, and you wouldn't want to find yourself stuck in enemy territory, now would you? So suck it up and go feed your bike some eyes and hearts, okay?

10) Give as good as you get.

Enemies have patterns, learn to counter them and you'll be able to keep from dying. Learn to mess with them and you'll never feel more alive. Once you know how an enemy will act, there's nothing like doing everything you can to have fun with an enemy unequipped to deal with you when you're not trying.

11) Use every weapon.

Weapons break, so I bet you'd want to save some of your better weapons for certain situations?
Don't. Aside from the Kite shield, which is outclassed in it's own ability by the Ancient Shield, everything you can get in the game is pretty easy to restock. Usually in the exact same place you first got it. Don't be afraid. Have fun with what you have. if it breaks, go get seconds. It's the best way to play.

That's all the tips I have for any current or aspiring heroes! This was amazingly fun to create and write, I hope it made some people wanna go back into the game. Cause it's really a great game to play.

Last but not least!

Get out

Once you have the ancient armor to level 2, I find a lot of success with guardian battle axes and 5 banana food.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Lizal tri boomerang is amazing for breaking legs if you don't have high level weaponry yet.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ive got like 80 hours of play and have just now started trying to learn to block and parry

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's never too late to learn a skill. Lynel shields are sharp and have blades, so when you parry, it hurts the opponent.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Pet the doggie OH MY GOD PET THE DOGGIE SO HELP ME

8 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 3

As others have said, you can't pet them. But you can befriend them by feeding them. And sometimes if you spin on the spot in front of it 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They'll chase their tails 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately you can't pet dogs in Breath of the Wild it's a real bummer.

8 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

You can pet the dog if you crouch next to it's face long enough

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can get to the final boss with huh ancient shield or two and not really fighting any guardians.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But where's the fun in that? I say crush your enemies, see them laid out before you and hear the lamentations of their women!

Can you not fish with a rod like in Ocarina of Time?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Nope, you've gotta employ the time honored tradition of noodling and/or bomb fishing/electrocution.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope. Gotta jump in after'em.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And I'm sorry, but if you think a vertical advantage doesn't matter, you probably overestimate your power. @op take my upvote

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I will take it, and use it to create a new world order!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite way of fishing/hunting animals is with my unlimited supply of magical bombs.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite is "With extreme prejudice"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not enough bombs it shield parry.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As far as fishing goes i prefer to just go with the old group shock therapy method, netting the whole lot

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I use bombs, or one of my two dozen Lynel bows + lightning arrows if I'm feeling saucy.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's the wind scar sword.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tetsaiga? /s

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Windcleaver. It's dropped by the big Yiga (red guys) and every attack sends out those wind slashes.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I would guess the one dropped by the giant Yiga guys

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one who was extremely annoyed by how fast weapons break in this game?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Higher level weapons break relatively slower. And are just as easy to replace as lower level weapons. For me, they not breaking fast enough

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Thanks for the info, now please buy me a Switch so I can apply it.

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

It’s great on the Wii U :)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s on the Wii U

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you have a decent PC... the game is totally playable on Cemu now. But shh, I didn't say anything.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I couldn't play it before with a normal CPU (i5 4570) and my gtx 760, but it's totally playable now.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shhhhh this is not a dot

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

plus, Woody with a Buzz glider

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can play it on the Wii U!

Don't forget that if you take a picture of a treasure chest you can then use the Sheikah Sensor to find a shit ton of treasure chests.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately that damn thing will go off for anything that can go in your inventory if you do that, though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. So much this.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Feed your horse Endura Carrots for additional "Hyah"!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And apples for extra trust, and swift carrots for extra speed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that a motherfucking Falling Down reference?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The one bokoblin with the text saying he was retiring, it reminds me of the retiring LAPD Sergeant Prendergast in Falling Down.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah, don't you love that trope? Nothing says "You're gonna die" in modern media like being days from retirement!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You left out fishing with bombs. Definitely the most efficient way

8 years ago | Likes 253 Dislikes 1

Lightning arrows

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

*Effishent

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

That is tier 2. Ranged weapon fishing.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I scrolled down to see if there was this comment, good choice in fishing my friend~

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was about to say that too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I was confused. Why waste arrows and weapon durability on fishing? Bombs are infinite

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Does one have to ask why a person would bother sailing into the sky and performing a somersault skull splitter to catch a single Bass...?

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Why would you do anything but?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

guys guys why go through so much effort when you can just ice block the fish out of the water

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, that's surprisingly difficult.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, bombs are good for basically everything. Fishing, lumberjacking, some bosses...

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Hunting birds with bombs is fun, too. Some of my favorite toys in the game. :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even processing the wood into bundles!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Elemental weapons also affect your temperature. Keep a spare sword of fire and ice just for on your back to keep you warm/cool.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also standing next to a chunk of ice with a hot weapon equipped will slowly melt it. Even if its still sheathed.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hearing the word fishing gives me PTSD flashbacks of Final Fantasy XV.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh fuck, no, not that. Anything but that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a weird obsession with fishing in video games and FFXV's was among my favorite systems. Idk why but I loved it. XD

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I get that it would be enjoyable for some but it gives me anxiety when I play it. It just doesn't do it for me. You either love it or hate

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I never got into XV's fishing game. Too busy murdelizing voretooths

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I otherwise love everything else in the game so I wanted to 100% it. Luckily to level fishing it doesn't matter what fish you catch.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you can just keep fishing those little ones that take 5 seconds to catch over and over and you get the same exp.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Attack of the Piano-cords.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> Removing guardian legs ups their adorable factor by 10 fold! OP is a serial killer.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have so many ancient screws in my inventory, the guardians are forming a coalition to accuse me of war crimes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is he uuh... is he riding a bike?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Yup. Part of the Champion's Ballad DLC. It's fun to ride but a full tank won't last for shit.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A full tank can get you halfway across hyrule, and monster parts fill the tank pretty fast compared to anything. Now koblin fangs are useful

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It gets you pretty far but it feels like it lasts two minutes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helicopters, laser octopi, giant animal robots, teleportation, and in the midst of all that someone invented the wheel. and gave it a friend

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Yeah, for some reason they added abike to this.....Someone was high

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The bike was actually one of the concept ideas in the early dev't of the game. I'm glad they brought it back in a lore-friendly way.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I honestly think it is horrible.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is the first Zelda game I’ve ever played and holy shit. I might have to hunt down copies of Twilight Princess.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you grab the HD version on Wii U you'll eventually be able to use the amiibo to spawn a wolf companion in BOTW.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be warned, Breath of the Wild is extremely different from it's older siblings.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

BotW is completely different from other LoZ games. Where this is more of an open world RPG, the others are very linear.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The first one was pretty sandboxy. If the dungeons weren't numbered, you wouldn't know what order you're "supposed" to do most of them.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That doesn't mean they're bad games, they just might not appeal to you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is the weapon durability as bad as I've heard some people say?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yes

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on the weapons but honestly you find so many of them all over the place it doesn't even matter

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's comforting to hear. You need to keep the weapon stockpiles full haha

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're trying to fight a giant death ray bot with a mop (Actually possible) Yes it is. Better equipment will last longer.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That sounds pretty cool haha

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That said, I had a lot of fun beating down goons with gardening tools.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t work as well in hard mode.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck the health regen in master mode.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stealth is more useful in master mode

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I started in master mode. Run and hide the first half of the game, smash and destroy the second half lol. Ancient set+ mighty bananas

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
