Here in Japan many older people work LONG after retirement but not out of necessity but because they actually want to. It's true that many people feel the absence of any work to be difficult to get accustomed to. That said though there are also plenty who enjoy their completely work-free lives and take up other hobbies or volunteer work. That's how it should be. Work if you want to but feel secure knowing that you've made your contribution and can also relax if you want to. Fuck Ben Shapiro.

So she finally started volunteering at the humane society of my recommendation bc she loved animals. And she fucking loves it. It helps her to look forward to retirement

I hate that there is the phenomenon of people retiring and not knowing what to do with their lives having identity crises because for 50 years their whole life has become their jobs even when they weren't particularly passionate about it. Many have to reinvent themselves and actually start exploring what it is they like because their whole life they had no time to find out what that looks like.
