Measles is arguably the most contagious disease on the planet. If one infected person spends an hour in a room with 100 unvaccinated individuals 90 of the will come down with the disease.
And contrary to popular opinion measles is not a "benign" childhood disease - some of the victims will suffer permanent injury - blindness, brain damage, even death.

Remember. Measles was considered eliminated. Everyone who gets sick or dies is fully the fault of the anti vaxxers. Every one of them is guilty.

yesterday my doc offered me a free pneumococcus vaxx for free, because im over 60 in germany. i took the needle. later that day i got headaches and felt tired. best sign that my immune system learning to adapt. In any case, much better than slowly suffocating from pneumonia. At the beginning of next month there will be a Covid and flu vaccination. like every year. Do I sound autistic? only if you're an idiot.

I am waiting for polio to make a comeback actually. Followed bu the plague. We’re heading there anyway, why wait…
IakobZ
Polio has never gone away. In areas like Pakistan and Afghanistan, it has never ceased to be endemic, because people massively reject the vaccine, and there have even been murders of health workers trying to explain the benefits of vaccines.
ToenailClippingsJar
Jfc.. the world is really a dumpsterfire. The ants eating themselves.

It's even worse than you imagine. Islamic fundamentalists like the Taliban consider vaccination sinful, and they consider children permanently disabled by polio to be "blessed by God."

My grandma always wanted us to get our shots. She lost her grandfather to measles, and at his funeral her uncle and her aunt came down sick. She lost her uncle as well and it was touch and go with her aunt
DrKonrad
As I read this tragic story, I could not help but imagine if that was me with my daughter. She is 3, and we vaccinated her without hesitation. A big thanks to medicine for developing vaccines that prevent such tragedies.
TheMershedPerderder
I wonder if they are so sure about vaccines that they stop giving shots to those in bootcamp?
Sakkura
#1 MMR vaccine is not the only thing that works. There's the MMRV vaccine and MR vaccine as well as measles-only vaccines that all work. It's a question of vaccine schedule, typically selected by national health authorities.

My sister has decided that her Chiropractic degree means that her decision to not vaccinate her daughters is more informed and correct than the accumulated knowledge & experience of all of pediatric medicine.

As someone who suffered from measles when I was two, I'd like to add: vaccinate your kids, you idiots.
OgreMkV
Also remember that the entire modern anti-vaccine movement was created when Dr. (at the time) Wakefield created his own measles vaccine and wanted to sell it. The only way to do that was to discredit the MMR vaccine. So he faked data that linked autism to the MMR vaccine. His lies took off and became ALL vaccines caused autism. He, having lost his medical license and obviously willing to do anything for money, leaned into it and formed the anti-vax movement to enrich himself. He lives in Texas.

Someone put a whole lot of effort into this useless image. There are 500% too many words on this for any anti-vax parent to read all of it. What's more, it's focused on how it impacts others and they don't give a shit about anyone beyond their immediate circle.
You need to dazzle them with bullshit. "Have you considered the anti-vax propaganda might be disinformation from China meant to weaken our children?"

cytherians
Raw milk will have more vitamins than pasteurized & homogenized milk, but it requires very careful handling and has a shorter shelf life--yet if it gets contaminated, it can really screw you up badly. It's essential to have the masses consume pasteurized milk. Degenerates like RFK Jr. want to challenge all norms, because they think it makes them look like a "fighter for truth," when they're propagandists of falsehoods.
quaggie
And vitamins are added to most pasteurized milk. Also, drinking milk isn't a super healthy anyway. Every doctor and dietician I've taken my kid to has first suggested drinking water instead of milk.
cytherians
The key is moderation. One shouldn't drink a lot of milk on a regular basis. And of course there is the matter of just "dairy" where milk is used to make cheeses, yogurt, creams, etc.
MagicalScientist
What's funny is the people who say "raw milk is safe you just need to boil it" because it destroys more vitamins than pasteurization (which is boiling but very carefully in this case).
BarryTheCyborg
There is very little difference in nutrition between the two and none that make it worth the risk. There's a reason raw milk is illegal in most places.
cytherians
I had said "more" but that's just generally speaking. I agree it's not a substantial difference. And the taste is probably the more alluring thing about it... when from a high quality source where cows graze on lush green grasses, not fed man-made crap.
But it's not only tricker to handle, it's also a serious health risk for children.

This is the most insidious aspect of RFK Jr. as his anti-vax stance affects critical vaccines like the one for measles.
Measles sounds like weasels and it's even more tenacious and deadly. Society has become numb to the dangers because there's no measles memory. It has been out of the picture for so long. But now... we're going to get a hard lesson.
RFK Jr. should be indicted for willful endangerment of children.
psmith00
should be but he's doing his "work" under the "umbrella" of Trump's immunity. Trump gave him the job and the authority and he'll use it as he sees fit, not as science would guide him.

ps238principal
And if any antivaxxers bring up the study that says Vitamin A helps, point out that it was done on starving children who had a massive Vitamin A deficiency to begin with, so giving them Vitamin A made them healthier in general and more likely to survive the disease.
So unless they're nutritionally deficient, it's not going to help any American kid.
SecondSince
So it would help most American children...
FiftyShadesOfTiramisu
Supplements may even cause more harm than good, meaning hypervitaminosis A (which is potentially lethal). Anyone who eats meat, eggs, dairy and/or seafood already consumes plenty of vitamin A. Probably more than necessary due to the meat-heavy mainstream diet. No one should be taking supplements unless they've been diagnosed with an actual deficiency since quite a few vitamins and minerals can be toxic in excess amounts.

Also measles can cause "immune amnesia". It basically erases all your previous immunity to other dieseases
custardandfishfingers24
That really explains a lot about why I've had strep like 50 million times, plus scarlet fever three times, etc, etc, etc. 30 yrs ago or so, my doc says I had a weakened immune system but he couldn't figure out why. But I nearly died of the measles when I was a kid. Immune amnesia. Sounds correct.

It's the same effect that was helping patients in Africa, that the antivaxxx-crowd are still using as argument that Ivermectin helps against Covid-19. Nope, the Ivermectin simply did its job (the one it does remarkably well) and killed off any parasites they had.
Unsurprisingly, that both improved their general well-being and helped their bodies fight off other things – like viral infections the Ivermectin *doesn't* touch.
Affray

whereismymind86

Not all of them are like that, and if you're on a public platform like this, it's impossible to know who might be reading and considering your argument, or who would consider the antivax argument if you say nothing. But if it's just your crazy aunt, well, you know if she's gonna listen or not.
Sangueffusor
Is this like how Ivermectin helped people already laden with parasites to survive COVID?
agonarch
Ivermectin had some science, annoyingly, but it turned out to be errors/deception/mistakes so it got picked up pretty quick. Antiparasitics aren't just prescribed for parasites, there's a few other situations where side-effects or unusual interactions that help (some cancers even).
For some reason they jumped on the very early science from when there seemed to be something, but then refused to budge as it developed and we got more data. Today we know it's basically no effect on COVID for sure.
Sangueffusor
This is what I was recalling - "People infected with the Strongyloides stercoralis parasite are at risk for strongyloides hyperinfection syndrome (SHS) — a condition with a mortality rate as high as 90% — if given corticosteroids to treat COVID-19. The World Health Organization [...] and the CDC all recommend presumptive treatment for strongyloidiasis with ivermectin in people at high or moderate risk of SHS before or in conjunction with corticosteroids in the management of COVID-19."[Wikipedia]

Science has not nonchalantly taken a backseat. It was willfully and gleefully kicked out of the room by charlatans who want to benefit from snake oil sales. It was accepted by partisan citizens because, most times, Science wasn't backing their cause or set of beliefs.

To quote Asimov who said this back in 1980, two generations ago: “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.”

There technically is a cure for measles, measles antibodies. We just have to start injecting horses with measles and pull the antibodies out of their blood like we used to do with diptheria and pertussis and we stopped doing because it's not nearly as effective as simply not getting the disease in the first place

good luck with that. I would wager as it stands right now, should there be an uprising, or if somehow law and order takes back the branches of gov't, one of three things will happen: 1. every member of the GOP who helped trump will suddenly decide "they've done all they can in politics" and vanish off the face of the earth. 2. not go quietly and probably die in a shooting/suicide before they can be arrested. 3. if they are arrested, they'll all say the same thing 1.2

Same here. It is “slightly” creepy to see only batch numbers and dates administered from my military medical records. Most are just numbers, no names. Yay!

Likewise. I was in the USAF and went overseas. I got a whole slew of vaccines. For a day or two, I felt a bit weak and uncomfortable, but after that, I was totally back to normal. Never got any of the diseases for which I was inoculated. I trust medical science.

Yeah, my uncle died from covid on the basis that "they got vaccinated for everything back when they were in the military" so they didn't have to do jack shit to try to avoid it. I have a co-worker right now that used to be a veterinarian's assistant that claims the same because of all the animal vaccines they've accidentally pricked themselves with. "But I'm fine"...
That's not how "unlisted dosage of unlisted vaccination" works. My overseas regimen was TWO waterjets on the paperwork in '97. I received THREE. I don't know what was in the third, my medical records don't show I received it, but Fort Jackson screwed up. I was in one of the first co-ed classes in '97. So they were filming all the time. They filmed my class receiving unlisted BCT graduation/permanent-party vaccinations, including the bogus third. Still won't admit it happened.
Necrothean
I'm glad you're fine, but there are thousands of veterans with complaints that are likely tied to these unlisted vaccines. At no point do I use the military vaccination program as a "Win". And I firmly believe in LISTED AND KNOWN VACCINES.
You know what one of our doses likely was? They began testing the brand-new-for-the-public-in-2024 malaria vaccine in the late 90's. The military was one of their first "buyers", even before the vaccine came out of testing. I wonder why.
Necrothean
Vaccination is great. Love being protected by thoroughly tested and properly vetted vaccines.
But my Desert Storm brothers weren't as lucky as we were to have no *known* symptoms of a botched vaccine. They received multiple unlisted dosages, according to multiple interviews with veterans groups and activists.
Never attempt to use the Tuskegee Program to promote syphilis medication. Never attempt to use the secret military vaccination program to promote vaccines. Horrible ideas.
