#33 My dad's big rig had this back in the 90s. What was the purpose? It can't actually be for dogs
Slash0mega
#13 ya no... that will LITERALLY break your brain, that is not a metaphor, you will start to suffer brain damage with a lack of stimulation like that!

#8 - In college I lived next to a house like this. We called it the Lego House because it looked like someone kept pulling random bits out of a bin of Lego.
JPRiddles
Can you just add to your house like that in America without needing planning permission from the city?

#13 You'd also die without food, water, or air.
sacrosanctt
No one said anything about not dying. I could easily stay in there for a year if I died after the first two weeks.
HonHomes
#13 It probably says a lot about me that I might take that. Do you have any idea how much money that is? I would write up a living will, and a year later I would be a crumpled, destroyed shell of a human being, that had gotten boatloads of money for my family, my friends, and at least one charity.
charondaboatman
#1 so. Where’s the dance? We’ve seen this dozens of times. With the dance. Give us the dance.

#13 easily. I am self-entertaining. And 30 billion takes a lot of planning.
xFlenserx
Paint with your food... catch up on sleep... use your imagination.... plan what to do with 30bn... ffs do people not have imaginations anymore... hell if you can get paper and pen write a novel or write it on the walls with whatever.... plenty to do
JPRiddles
Catch up on sleep? It's 52 weeks, not a long weekend
afgncap
There are several additional questions. Is the food also white? Is the room soundproof? Easily is a silly answer, considering most people break very fast with sensory depravation.
ButtblasterMcAssmaster
It's a pretty interesting variant of this question, because most of them are just a very easy yes. I guess we have to assume you somehow get food and have a toilet, so you don't just y'know, die. 30b is a world-changing amount; you could literally have a significant global impact.
However, there's a decent possibility you'll simply go insane. You may never be able to function again after a year in there. Even if you think you're self-entertaining, that is not a situation you've ever been in.
rumandbass
The irony is that a year of that would change you irrevocably to where the 30 billion would be meaningless and wasted on the vegetable that remained.
Slash0mega
you may feel that way, but the human brain can not handle a lack of stemulation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqKdEhx-dD4&t=32s
keraos
Yeah. Like, I might be able to make it out sane, and I'd take the chance, but you would NOT be the same person coming out
ZombeyHepburn
I couldn’t do it.
SpaceballsTheComment
30 billion couldn't pay for the therapy I'd need after that.
imonsei
You, my friend, is a very young person
evilspock
Thank you - but I'm almost 60. What I have is a learned patience and the ability to survive without constant stimulation.
imonsei
I don't think you realize how much of a pack animal humane are. There are very VERY few who can go for lang periods without human contact, without going insane.
evilspock
I don't think you realize how much of an anti-social old shit I can be for 30 billion dollars. As for insanity - I'd risk it. That kind of money is literally life-changing for so many people.
Chikun31
Where do you plan on shitting for a year in that room? The average person poops 320 pounds in a year. No shower, no sink, no toilet.
SalmonTheWise
You need that shit to write down your plans on the walls.
evilspock
Thirty. Billion. Dollars.
Pick a corner. Assuming you shit every other day, that's over 82 million dollars to take a crap.
(Having said that, I assume the challenge is the boredom, not "no toilet", and you'd get a bucket or something when needed. The items listed were all "stimulation" items, and frankly I nap really well)
UNHchabo
The corner! Why didn't I think of that?
ForGondor
If there is nothing else in that room but the padded surfaces and the lights don't turn off? You wouldn't last a week
evilspock
Betcha 30 billion dollars.
ForGondor
Okay
evilspock
Let me know when the money is in an escrow account, you're ready to sign a contract, and you have my room ready.
ForGondor
Okay
hyptosis
Without a fucking question, I wouldn't even be the fucked up if i had a decent place to poo and didn't have to wear a jacket. 360 days ain't shit for never having to ever have to work again, and being able to make the world a better place when you were done. Imagine how much land you could restore to native plants and animals with 30 billion dollars. I could meditate for 100 days before I got bored.
CalebCakePilot
You won't be able to spend the money when you declared insane and your family controls it (or the state)
worm61
People like to think this about themselves, but total isolation and lack of stimulus will completely shatter your mind, and it won’t take very long. There’s a reason solitary confinement is considered torture.
hyptosis
Unlike most people, I have a lot of experience in extreme isolation. Not in a ward granted, but I know what I'm about, son.
ButtblasterMcAssmaster
Bold claim. You may be comfortable spending time with just your own mind, but I really doubt that's been tested by isolation in a featureless room for months. I don't know if anyone's coming out the other side of that experience with a functioning brain.
hyptosis
I used to live in the wilderness, only seeing other people every 6 months to resupply. Granted that was 20 years ago. I'm about to go back to living like that though. I didn't say a padded room would be fun, I said I'd do it, to be able to help the world when I came out.
Anarchduke
You could solve world hunger for only 6 billion.
hyptosis
I'd be willing to die/go insane for that.
ForGondor
Depends on a lot of things. For instance, if those lights don't turn off you will lose you're fucking mind in about 3 days.
hyptosis
well sure, are they keeping me in an asylum or TRYING to torture me to be insane? is there someone in the next room screaming and shitting themselves? at night do giant wasp monsters come into my room and take off my pants?
ForGondor
Cool hyperbole but I'm just taking the question at face value. I.e. What the room looks liek in the picture, lights on. Also this is a weird thing to get intense about, sorry I asked.
sacrosanctt
The man screaming and shitting himself in the next room is me trying to get the money as well. I am also the wasps.
hyptosis
YoureTooTents
Wasps that take off my pants? Don’t threaten me with a good time.

dasklaus
30 billion changes the world. I might come out changed or deranged, but those 30 billion will fight hunger, poverty, war.
IAmTheBadW01f
I'm using the first billion to get revenge
SalmonTheWise
After a year of solitary confinement it will fight your hallucinations.
worm61
You would not come out with an intact psyche.
dasklaus
Bold of you to assume I'm going in with an intact psyche. I've dealt with isolation before, I can dissociate pretty well, I would find a way to stay alive. I won't be a happy person and I'll never fully recover, but leaving the world better than I entered it? I'd sacrifice a lot for that.
worm61
Isolation is one thing. Complete absence of stimuli is a whole different beast. The human brain cannot withstand such a situation without completely unraveling. You’d lose yourself within a week.
dasklaus
It's not sound-isolated. I could still sing and stim. And we have to assume some kind of toilet and food situation.
