I swear to Q, Terry Farrell's ability to reach through the camera and grab you by the libido in every picture she's aware she's in is uncanny.

The real stars are the makeup artists. Man does it look like they had to put a ton of work

Word and some of it took ages, like the Martok makeup, too, like 3-4 hours.

I recognize Avery Brooks and Terry Farrell in the top row. do you know who the other two are?
Shoutrr
it's from season 6 episode 13. The guy with the cigar is JH Hertzler, he also plays Martok. the other one is mark scott zicree, the scenarist for this episode.

She was referring to her butthole. And technically they're coming out of the butthole. Evolutionarily speaking.

They have at least one episode where she's in a bathing suit and yeah they go all the way down.

Not going to lie, I totally had a crush of Kira and Keiko when the show was running.

They definitely would've made those two a throuple with Miles if this show had been made today.

One of my favorite DS9 cast stories is how they all thought Siddig el-Fadil was on drugs but it turned out that he was just a huge video game nerd.

I forget the game that had just came out, though. Was it WOW? It was something good, at least, I remember thinking 'yeah, I can see that'

I consider Jesse Gender an authority on Trek, she's fantastic.

The only dismay I'd heard was that it was "too slow" and "space soap-opera" like. Granted, the first 2 seasons were a bit laborious, on the whole character building premise... but things really got going by the 3rd season.
Avery Brooks is NOTHING like Captain Sisko. His portray is that good.
I've not been keeping tabs, but are there far-right shitheads calling DS9 "woke"? If so, FUCK them.
JayDeeDubs
I feel DS9 gets a pass from the modern anti-woke crowd because it's older, but it absolutely got dumped on at the time for claims that it was betraying the spirit of Trek and other bullshit, some of it racist.
orngeturtl
Thanks for this. Didn’t know about the documentary before and it was a delight to watch.
Tigersterne
Fortunately I was too young and too offline when DS9 ran for that shit. My only critique was it wasn’t enough like TNG… then it got better than TNG
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Man, I remember that too. The shit flung at DS9 simply for not being an exact carbon copy of what came before... Sadly it happens with pretty much every new incarnation of Star Trek. A loud, angry segment of the base actively shits on anything new. Hence the online joke "Nobody hates new Star Trek like Star Trek fans."
Fizzypeach
I never really got into it, loved the OS and TNG but I didn't bash it, it just wasn't for me. Not everything has to appeal to me and I never understood these people who hate on stuff they don't like especially TV shows/movies... just move on.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
That's fair. Not everything is for everyone. Personally I loved DS9, but I know there are people who loved Voyager too which was my least favorite of the "old four" Trek series. I just can't stand when people preemptively hate stuff. Same people screamed at TNG when it started because it wasn't Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, but it ended up defining more of Star Trek than TOS in a lot of ways.
JayDeeDubs
Yep, pretty much every new show has had a backlash from certain quarters, only to be treated like beloved treasures when the *next* new star Trek launches
delecti
I dunno, I'm not sure that has happened for Enterprise yet, lol
JayDeeDubs
No, it absolutely has. I've seen many a person lamenting that the new shows (disco, lower decks, Picard, SNW, etc) don't measure up to the old ones, Enterprise inclusive. It's the same old shittiness with a new coat of paint
TheFastpaws
Well to be fair Picard and Discovery are poorly written trash. SNW and Lower Decks are absolute gems though.
6ymq4yprmj0
And then everyone got pissy that Voyager would continue and DS9 was ending

"OH MY GAWD A FEMALE CAPTAIN! THESE STUDIO EXECS ARE WOKE PIECES OF SHIT!"
God DAMN people are stupid.
DerpMeister
As a Trekkie who took part in internet discussions when ST:V launched in the 90s, I remember very few people hating on Kate Mulgrew being picked as Captain, but *a lot* people, including myself, criticizing the plot development (or plot twist, if you will) to pick the character B'Elanna Torres as chief engineer. While the explanation that it was a move to unify both crews (Maquis and Starfleet) looked good on paper, B'Elanna's erratic and overall very dislikable behavior (in the beginning of
DerpMeister
the show) made her a constant focus of both criticism as well as mysoginistic hate, despite the fact that she became a more reasonable personality as the show progressed. Little did we know at the time how fortunate we had been compared to the abyss that has opened up before us lately...*cough*...Discovery...*cough*.
Pasquinelthe2nd
Especially since the execs went all out to make it a carbon copy of TNG to avoid the "backlash" that DS9 got.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Indeed. "Oh, we did something new and innovative? Better undo that shit."
That was what bothered me most about Voyager. It had a fascinating premise that could have talked a LOT about Starfleet ethics in crisis situations, people under stress, and factionalism.
And then they tossed like 95% of the premise in order to do recycled TNG stories. It's not that it was necessarily a bad show, but it was never as good as TNG that way, and it wasted a lot of potential opportunities.
CallMeCourierSix
But they changed ONE thing. Janeway instead of a dude. And that was heresy according to the sexist piece of shit fans.
alt86er
I just wish they'd re-release this show in 4K. The DVD-release leaves much to be desired. Nevertheless, still a fun show.
lastmanonearthbutidroppedmyglasses
It’s never gonna happen. The TNG remaster was wildly expensive, and a DS9 remaster would be even more so. It might not even be possible.
Gelantious
I'm curious how expensive it was? Because it can only become cheaper as time goes on and tech becomes better. And I'd bet if they did a kickstarter type of thing then the fans would pay it.
lastmanonearthbutidroppedmyglasses
It’s not really about the technology. The tech is likely about as good and cheap as it will ever be. The expensive part is the labor.
Pasquinelthe2nd
Not that the Ellisons would even want to, they're busy killing Trek for quick profits.
alt86er
Doesn't keep me from wishing. ;-/
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
The hard part would be the CGI. TNG still used practical effects, but DS9 was the first series to start using CGI extensively, mostly in the later seasons for large fleet scenes that could not be done with models. Unfortunately a lot of that stuff would have to be reconstructed if they wanted to do a good quality HD remaster. It's not impossible; I've sometimes thought a fan project might be able to do a lot of the work. But it would be difficult and likely expensive.
MinistryOfSillyTalks
They could do a cheaper remaster like some shows do. Just scan the 35mm negatives (yes they're safe) and upscale the effects shots with the best tech of today, which actually doesn't even look that bad anymore.
lastmanonearthbutidroppedmyglasses
The problem as I understand it is that the show was shot on film, but then transferred to video for editing. There’s no single film reel to transfer from, so they’d essentially have to put the show back together from raw footage.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
You're correct. That's why the TNG remaster was so expensive; they had to not only scan the original film, but essentially rebuild the episode. Not impossible, but it's a roadblock.
MinistryOfSillyTalks
Most 80-90's shows like (TNG, DS9, VOY) were shot on film, telecine'd to tape and edited on tape. There simply are no final master 35mm reels for any show and they have to be rebuilt from scratch every time.
There are companies that have a lot of experience with this stuff and with large media pools. They remastered Buffy the vampire slayer like 10 years a go (also 7 seasons, FX shots upscaled) and content matching tools have come a long way in that time.
