In a rambling "Truth Social" post, Trump self-congratulates that Tim Cook called him during his first term to "kiss his ass". Supposedly to beg Trump to solve a big problem. As always, Trump makes the whole message about himself.

Full message by Trump:

"I have always been a big fan of Tim Cook, and likewise, Steve Jobs, but if Steve was not taken from the Planet Earth so young, and ran the company instead of Tim, the company would have done well, but nowhere near as well as it has under Tim. For me it began with a phone call from Tim at the beginning of my First Term. He had a fairly large problem that only I, as President, could fix. Most people would have paid millions of dollars to a consultant, who I probably would not have known, but who would say that he knew me well. The fees would be paid but the job would not have gotten done. When I got the call I said, wow, it's Tim Apple (Cook!) calling, how big is that? I was very impressed with myself to have the head of Apple calling to "kiss my ass". Anyway, he explained his problem, a tough one it was, I felt he was right and got it taken care of, quickly and effectively. That was the beginning of a long and very nice relationship. During my five years as President, Tim would call me, but never too much, and I would help him where I could. Years later, after 3 or 4 BIG HELPS, I started to say to people, anyone who would listen, that this guy is an amazing manager and leader. He makes these calls to me, I help him out (but not always, because he will, on occasion, be too aggressive in his ask!), and he gets the job done, QUICKLY, without a dime being driven to these very expensive (millions of dollars!) consultants around town who sometimes get it done, and sometimes don't. Anyway, Tim Cook had an AMAZING carrier, almost incomparable, and will go on and continue to do great work for Apple, and whatever else he chooses to work on. Quite simply, Tim Cook is an incredible guy!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

What laws got broken for Trump to deliver these favors to Apple, I wonder...

I think they gave him a "trophy" which was pretty much just a piece of glass on top of a gold bar bribe.

Apple donated $1M to trump's inaugural fund. cook personally bent the knee at the WH, awarded trump some tacky made-up prize (engraved glass disc with a golden base), and pledged to invest $100 billion in US manufacturing to make trump look good. And in return trump hit apple with over $1 billion in tariff costs per quarter. Satan knows how many bribes they had to pay in order to make that go away. A lesson not just for apple but for all apple fans out there.

And pay them they did, and then he showed up for the private screening of Melania, iirc

Soooo… the alternative is to buy products using the Google spyware operating system…? The same google that has been way more active in government surveillance through their Android OS? 3rd party Apple apps might spy on you, but they have been a consumer based company. Apple appears to have paid the extortion fee, not created a weapons AI like google.

A differently awful and corrupt company is not a defense or validation of a corrupt company

alphabet / google is also in bed with the fascist regime, but this thread is about apple and tim crook. There are alternatives to u.s.-made fascist garbage, both in the desktop sector (Linux) and for mobile devices (such as Sailfish and /e/OS). The nice thing about mobile operating systems is that it doesn't really matter which one you use if you're not the type to install a ton of apps. We should resist the appification of the internet anyway.

I’m a big fan of Linux, I develop platforms using many distros, but google android is the only game in town for mobile if you’re not going the apple route. To steer people away from iOS in the illusion that the other options are better is naive. The phone might say Samsung, or Google, but under the hood they run on the same OS. Google didn’t collect all the data in the world by respecting your privacy.

If you desperately want/need Android compatibility, go with /e/OS, LineageOS, or GrapheneOS. They're de-googled open source versions of Android with a strong focus on privacy that can anonymously download Play Store apps without having to install Google's Play Store.

Even with the new changes Google is making to the app ecosystem requiring registration and obstructing any 3rd party loading? They added a 24hr wait period like you’re trying to get an abortion in a republican state.
