But sometimes there are things that are memorialized that represent something so horrible that they don't deserve the respect paid to them.

There was a couple in Calgary who spray painted their own driveway and then claimed it was vandalism. Those assholes will do anything for attention and drama. They wrote "BLACKS RULE" in really shitty font, thinking that they could fool people. I'm as white as can be, and even I know that a) a black people would never call themselves "blacks", and never boast something serious like "blacks rule"; and if they did, they'd be far more artful about spray painting it.

Hey, a public urinal is much more useful, and far less ugly. Pissing on the statue only works if people see it and you don’t get arrested for public indecency. Vandalism can be performed in secret, and even if no one saw you do it, the statue is visibly disfigured.
