If it were in the last spot at the end of the sidewalk away from the place the sidewalk leads to, no harm, no foul. Only person being blocked from the sidewalk in that case would be the driver of the super long vehicle. That's better than taking up 2 spaces in the middle of the lot, to me.

There's someone living in our apartment complex who drives a pickup with an extended bed, that sticks out several FEET past the back tires and will always back into the space (taking up more time than pulling in normally and backing out normally would ever take) and then backing up without looking until his back tires bump into the curb. So his entire back end is literally covering the entire sidewalk and it's so fucking annoying. Doesn't even need to do it because the spaces are long enough.

If there's a mud puddle nearby, slap your hand in it, and wipe it off on the driver's windshield. Maybe write a note with it. Nothing a moment of washers and wipers won't clear, but the owner/operator will know their actions were not without notice or ignored.

Here in Alberta we get the assholes with the extended box pickups plus trailer hitch that completely block the sidewalk. It is against the law here, but rarely enforced. One asshole that blocked access to the dumpster in a strip mall helped me find a new place for trash.

Same thing with pickups with a large hitch on the back. Technically, in NJ, you must remove all hitches from the receiver when they are not in use. Nobody does, and nobody gets ticketed for it either.

As someone who has spent a lot of time driving a long van like this, it can be very hard to park at some places, you're just too long to pull in nose first so you have to do something like this, but i usually go to the dead/empty end of the lot where I'm not going to disturb anyone. Sometimes you have an appointment somewhere and you're spending 20 minutes trying to find a park at the end of a street, bust still close enough so that you don't have to walk a mile to your destination 😢

I was just pointing out that there's a lot you can't tell from this image, that could have been the dead end of the car park for all we know, I'm just saying that as crappy as it is when something like this happens, this image doesn't tell the entire story. I was just trying to provide some insight as to what it's like to get around in a vehicle like this (i lived in one this size for several years while travelling around my country). You always want to do your best to not get in anyone's way.

Fair enough. Your comments are indeed true. There can always be some circumstances we can’t see in an image like this. Someone’s emergency, or a stalled vehicle. This pic can be seen as a generic situation, because 90 percent of the time, this kind of parking will be done with no excuse.

To be entirely fair, that looks like one of those extended vans, and would likely not fit normally in any parking space, especially if the lot doesn't have "double" spaces.

But in such a case, do your best to park it at the very end of the row away from where the sidewalk is leading. Only people you block that way is your driver side access, which with what is probably a passenger van, is just the driver themself. If driving that is your job, taking a hike around is part of it.

Perhaps, but we lack enough context with this image. For all we know the driver could have concluded this was the least-intrusive possible option. Without seeing where the sidewalk goes or what's in the area, there's really no way to know.
