I am immunocompromised. Shitty genes. I am triple vaxxed. Mask everywhere. Social distance. Isolated. I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people are blowing off a disease that literally cooks your brain, scars your lungs, and kills on the off chance it wont. I feel like I'm screaming into a void. Taking crazy pills. Shrugged off as another conspiracy theorist. All for listening to people I know damn well to be smarter than me! Scientists! Virologists! Pathologists! Non quacky Doctors! But I'm met with "ITs JuSt ThE fLu" Yup, a flu now considered a disability by the dept of labor. A flu with known and lasting brain damage verified by the NINDS. If I have to go out in public I'm met by people fake coughing to express their opinions about my mask. Covid is OvEr. I want mY soCial liFe bAck.. . I want my life back too. I really believed people would band together and kick this viruses ass... Instead they just showed how selfish and uncaring most people really are. I could rant more but my Jolly Rogers hanging low...
Edit: Wow. I appreciate those that still take this seriously. Thank you all. Plethora.
iusedtodream
Sociopaths thrive in a strong society but we reached critical mass and are dying in droves to their manically selfish behavior disorder.
Chamato
115 covid deaths yesterday in a country of 350m.
kittyanya
Red state. I tell people my mask is great against pollen and I'm a severe asthmatic. If I get the flu, it turns into pneumonia.
Slixxerman
My mother is an IC as well and she hates wearing a mask. I have no problems with it since I hate showing my face
SerenePrincess013
You lasted this long? The last traces of mine was gone by December of 2016.
renamingbecauseIdontcarefordaddiesofbusiness
I feel horrible because I finally stopped wearing a mask the last couple weeks because I haven't seen any in months. And I'm meaningless
AFSamizdat
It's wrong to judge those who mask, but I would agree we are at a stage where there are equal protections for oneself as if it was a flu
DoggyMama4Life909
I'm right there with you OP. I have cancer getting a stem cell transplant in a week. Won't have an immune system for awhile. I have no life.
FrogBotherer
I had it a couple of weeks ago, I've had 3 doses of vaccine, it sucked and continues to suck. Even vaccinated it felt worse than the flu.
FrogBotherer
0/10 would not recommend.
Pirahtays
I lost my friend to Covid a few months back, stay vigilant. He was a kidney transplant patient.
Pirahtays
He was exposed around the time of his anti rejection infusion and he was gone in about 2 weeks. It's serious stuff 2/3
Pirahtays
And I wish more folks were compassionate for their fellow man like most preach to be. I'll be angry at the world for many years to come. 3/3
SoniqueTui
I felt awful when I temporarily lost my only mask on me. I worry most about giving it unknowingly than getting it myself..
homicidalkoala
I'll probably wear a mask in public the rest of my life just to spite these assholes
LookAtThisGraph
Currently got it for the first time. Quadruple vaxxed and just laid here and cried yesterday because I felt like I was going to die.
jerethdatiger12
Hope you are doing better.
LookAtThisGraph
All good my friend thank you!
MisterCrowbar
I don't get why people aren't afraid of the "lose sense of taste/smell part." Everything about it sucks but goodbye comfort food!
Lemmingofdarkestnight
Any faith I had in people that survived the trump years got finished of my the pandemic
Groostav
For me it was the opposite, I’m blown away with how my family and friends have responded to corona.
KarakLohr
Yep I feel exactly the same. That one-two punch, the stupidity and selfishness involved in both. Glad I never had kids.
Alvatore
Vote for hope in a better future. Vote for significant, long-lasting change that can't be stopped by anyone. Vote Giant Meteor in 2024.
Lampmonster
I look at the looming climate crises and our inability to deal with literally any problem on a mass scale anymore and well we're fucked.
neezie
And now enormous public attacks on education, books, minority groups and women out right. It hurts
PaintedSlate
Just think how much worse it will be if they win again. They've just begun, and they know how to make it stick.
Lemmingofdarkestnight
They were always there. Just now they're emboldened.
inchoroi
I haven't had faith in humanity since 1994.
BernieMittens
Communications assistance of law enforcement act. OOF
inchoroi
Lol...that's not what I had in mind, but appropriate I suppose. That was the year my dad got fired because the owner was paying too...
inchoroi
...much for my mom's cancer treatments. America ftw?
JamesBluntThatSmartassCunt
Same.
wh0racle
I’m sorry friend. People are so selfish and never wonder about others struggles. They only see what they don’t like and have to opinionate.
wh0racle
Stay safe
LawlessGardener89
Have faith I’m double boosted just because I care for folks like you
KarenWalkerismyspiritanimal
Same. Sitting here with fever/chills & a rash from the booster I got yesterday. Second one. And I’ll do it again when the time comes.
Sanivia
fun fact- boosts protect only yourself, you can still carry that cov around, making other people get it.
Jaxom3
Any source on that?
Sanivia
https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/covid-19-vaccines/advice
CarpetheCarp
Can’t get the second booster (yet) but got my kids vaxxed and will happily mask for anyone who wants me to.
MBdub210
Same. Went into grocery store (w/o my kids) yesterday to get diapers. I was the ONLY masked one. Same at OB/GYN appt. Weird.
CleverGroom
I care, but I don't qualify for a 2nd booster. Learn moar in the USA: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/booster-shot.html
BernieMittens
I'd better get super powers. Anything less at this point is insulting.
Shad0wkid
Just an FYI if you are immuncompromsied you may not be fully vaccinated being only triple vaxed
Shad0wkid
In US immuncompromised (adults) qualify for 2 dose primary mRNA series, one additional dose, and two boosters bringing total to 5 now
flavivsaetivs
What? That's fucking stupid. We need yearly boosters because it's endemic now.
CleverGroom
OP should qualify for a second booster, at least. Oh and my rich friend has had at least two booster 'cause he's rich, so that's nice.
speershawks
I will follow the government mandates. Which there are none as of now.
imnotthatblonde
Likewise. those who said to wear it say there is no longer a need so im going with that not people on the internet
kittyclawz
I bet if you sprayed them with Lysol when they cough at you they wouldn't do that anymore.
Whitebeardthepirate
@OP I get how you feel. Problem is in the last 20 years, humanity as a species has really emphasized how badly it's turned into a 1/2
Whitebeardthepirate
collective whole of self serving assholes who are sensitive to anything and are only looking out for themselves.
squidiom
Taking the necessary precautions is not "living in fear". I'm still isolating/masking/boosting but I experience fear rarely. Mostly what I
squidiom
feel is empathy and concern. Concern for people like my mother, who struggles to breathe on a good day, without Covid, and people like OP.
imnotthatblonde
so did you ever take the same precautions over common cold or any other chest infection that could cause her issue? why only covid?
squidiom
The true cowards are the people who can't compromise any aspect of their life to preserve the lives of their countrymen. Patriots my ass.
marthafarquar
If anyone coughs at you, lift your mask, cough back and say " Sorry, the mask isn't for covid its for my multidrug-resistant TB "
imnotthatblonde
may have it latent from farm work, so that ones a bit eh
FormerlySable
This is brilliant and I am going to use it!
BernieMittens
We are kin. I hear fake coughs and go " You got it too?!" Then watch them scurry away. Take that reverse Uno biatch!!
IProcratinatedMakingAUsernameBecauseICouldntThinkOfOne
@BernieMittens - I want you to know that I still wear my mask for people just like you (I’m vaxxed). We’re harder to find, but still there.
BernieMittens
I give a little nod everytime
HisBabes
I completely understand & commiserate. Even my own daughter & SIL insist it’s just like the flu & I’m over reacting. ?
BernieMittens
Plus all those poor school kids! We have zero idea how much they have been affected just because they're still growing!!2
BernieMittens
2 "kids handle it better" ?! They'll be fine! For all we know we could have damned and damaged an entire generation
jgmitzen
It's not some sort of alien disease. Kids are practically immortal unless you drop them on their head. They'll be just fine.
HisBabes
We have. 30% of Covid survivors have long covid. Kids will be affected for years.
imnotthatblonde
And the damage from keeping them home and not having social contact, interactions, sports?
captaingeerex
I get it. In somewhat the same boat here. I get that people can’t be bothered with it any more, but I’ll still be masking and avoiding >
whoinvitedthem
Honestly I’m not contagious but mask up always: if ppl comment, I say “I AM COVID” and they are surprisingly sheepish. Got it 16 days ago.
captaingeerex
> crowds for the most part for the foreseeable future. If people give you shit for wearing a mask tell them you have an autoimmune >
captaingeerex
> condition, the pandemic isn’t over yet as per any credible medical authorities, and to stop being so selfish. Maybe it’ll work?
jgmitzen
Fauci himself said we're past the pandemic phase in the United States. Time to let it go.
captaingeerex
Yes, one man said that about one country, with the assumption that another stronger variant doesn’t emerge. “Letting it go” when we’re>
captaingeerex
> only just past omicron by a couple of months is foolhardy at best.
joemac65
Agreed. Just went to the local supermarket (UK). Very few masks on and all talking about the massive BBQs they're having this weekend.
imnotthatblonde
Yup its almost like having been denied social contact and the benefits that bring people are looking forward to it

rules on social interaction have been minimal for a while and trend has been down
PTNLemay
Not to defend antivaxers, but I know people who have been masking up for work 9 hours a day for the past 2 years and they are exhausted. /
imnotthatblonde
Retail worker, also its a cost either laundering and procuring fabric ones or disposables most of us cant maintain
grandestoptimist
Your work should provide them, if they don’t then organize some action to get it done.
PTNLemay
/ Past a certain point they just can't do it anymore and start lashing out. Ranting and screaming about mask rules. Even if they know better
executivedisfunction
A someone who wore masks all day every day at work, or lost health to particulates and toxic fumes, they are babies, unfit for survival.
executivedisfunction
Given any Real pandemic or an economic or ecological disaster that destroys the major social fabric, they are Dead. No loss to the community
imnotthatblonde
ah someone who derides their coworkers discomfort, you must be a charm to work with
grandestoptimist
For most of the jobs that require that kind of PPE, discomfort is just a part of it. There is nothing worse than working with someone who
grandestoptimist
complains about “the suck” incessantly instead of embracing and making light of it.
imnotthatblonde
Right so.. I'm in a job with minimal PPE beyond steel cap boots so yeh.. not discomfort I signed up for
xXxSTEVOxXx
The people in the states are insane. They're entirely self centered and willfully unaware of their effects on others. Its always so obvious
ThereAreChameleonsEverywhereProbably
The US is a dumpsterfire. I was born here and have lived here my whole life, regrettably. The culture is so deeply fucked.
hcysnc
I mean constantly being fed the "American dream" with a nuclear family and white picket fence for all, but no emphasis on your fellow man 1/
hcysnc
will do that to ya. Also drastically lowering education while basically worshipping the rich and higher class, fully believing you can too.
CanisDirusTV
That dream died a long time ago
Rink257
Yeah. Im here in the states. I see Stupid People. They're everywhere. They dont know they're stupid.
xXxSTEVOxXx
Americans as a nation have literally not banded together in response to a single crisis in my entire life one single time. Not even once.
PrincessDaystar
9/11 would be the last time it happened in mine. I just want to make it to 60, after that im done, not going to grow old in this shit hole.
xXxSTEVOxXx
We followed that up with war crimes against sihks, hate crimes, abandoned and mangled vets, cancer stricken first responders... I got more
Jamesstin
Veterans being treated poorly in the US is the biggest pile of bullshit ever concocted from "liberals spit on Vietnam vets" to the 1/
Jamesstin
claim that they disproportionately kill themselves than gen pop to an absurd degree, or to the claim the VA fails veterans or literally 2/
PrincessDaystar
Yup, we did, but it was the last time the country united, says something i guess
xXxSTEVOxXx
United under uncritical corporate media propaganda and the delusional gaslighting by Donald Rumsfeld. It says we are in catastrophic decline
BernieMittens
But my fReEDuMs!! It's a weird phenomenon. We wear coats to protect us from cold but masks?! That's asking too much!!
Feralkyn
This is not, sadly, just an American thing. It's widespread in the UK and parts of Europe, too, at the very least. I suspect the Russian
Feralkyn
antivax disinformation campaign got spread a little too far and caught on a little too strongly, unfortunately.
xXxSTEVOxXx
Americans think freedom means being allowed to do whatever you want at any time with no questions asked.
thermodaemonics
Most of us know better. A warning: Keep Rupert Murdoch out of your countries. Your citizens are also more programmable than you think.
RedWingedBlackbirds
Is there a way to get him and his enterprises out of this country?
OrnamentalTurtle
I recall during the first lockdown a friend was whining that there had to be a compromise between safety and the economy. I had to make 1/2
OrnamentalTurtle
him remember high school biology and that nature doesn't have to compromise it just wants to kill you. He finally got it.
xXxSTEVOxXx
So many people are this awful mix of sheltered and uneducated that we basically have lost touch with reality as a civilization.
GadenKerensky
When you go for compromise between disease and economy, the disease will win. It's a force of nature, not a social construct.
xXxSTEVOxXx
That's a fucking good line. Damn.
rebmafire
This is more of an addendum than anything; I just vacay’d in OR and most people still had masks. Back home in the U.K., literally just me.
rebmafire
I’m really disappointed in my country. Like really. The selfishness is spreading worse than the virus ever did.
xXxSTEVOxXx
Portland? Eugene?
rebmafire
Portland. It’s far from perfect, but I miss it.
xXxSTEVOxXx
I take it you dont live in a portland-y part of England then
Rink257
Yeah. I try to explain it to ppl. Nobody wants to be the 1st to do a good thing cuz they think nobody else will. Angry and hopeless.
rebmafire
Totally. I think it’s part of our culture, to not want to stand out in certain ways... Even if standing out is just doing the right thing.
rebmafire
I feel like it never used to be that way, but it’s like most everybody in Britain only wants an EASY life now and takes the path of least
Rink257
They fail to see they are not tye 1st. Too angry to see the ones spreading kindness for the sake of kindness.
DaystarClarion
All the pandemic taught me is that the majority of people are selfish cunts. Went food shopping today (UK). Only one in the shop with a mask
iwader
It’s largely political I feel. Gov ministers are doing what they want, so everyone else feels entitled to. If only we had a respectable gov
upfr0mhere
Cases are trending down atm and the UK has a high proportion of people double vaxxed
kastewbeef
Ditto here in the sates (red). Not one mask at the grocery, liquor store or sub shop. 49k new cases/week & people pretend it doesn’t exist.
DaystarClarion
I think this is what purgatory feels like
imnotthatblonde
Staff wise most of us were glad to be rid of them, also agression and assaults on staff have dropped massively since people can see faces
StarFlowerKat
some days i'd rather die than work too, buddy, but that's no reason to blame yourself and your colleagues for your own assaults over masks
imnotthatblonde
I blame the government who made it a thing tbh
ChloeRed
Weirdly, when I go to sainsburys few are wearing masks, when I go to the little asda, a higher percentage are wearing masks. 1/
imnotthatblonde
seems to be the reverse where i am, but its probably the areas the shops are in
ChloeRed
This surprised me. 2/2
PolarHailStorm
Depends on where you are. It's hit or miss and seems to depend on the area rather than brand. Entitled fucks are everywhere.
HaikuSorrow
(Not in UK) Which is the more expensive shop?
ChloeRed
Sainsburys, until about November last year, Asda was owned by Walmart, for comparison.
HaikuSorrow
Thank you, I'm in Australia and am constantly surprised by the difference in mask wearing depending on area/time of day.
