This guy (Kyle Clark) consistently kicks Republican asses. You gotta see this interview with Victor Marx, the batshit-crazier dude who was also in this debate. It's WILD. https://youtu.be/KywOV9EkNFg?si=6doSHrwAFwaPzpqn
Remember at the 2024 vice presidential debate when the moderators VERY GENTLY redirected JD Vance about migrants eating pets and he said “I was told there would be no fact checking!” IM STILL FUCKING FURIOUS ABOUT THAT. OF COURSE WE NEED TO FUCKING FACT CHECK PEOPLE AT A GD DEBATE
trouble is republicans don't care about debate performance and so they'd just no show them. While leftists will slaughter a progressive for a weird yell.
MAGA: "I want my racism affirmed." MAGA candidate: "Look at all the evil foreign gang members!" Journalist: "No one in law enforcement is backing up your claims, can you present your evidence?" MAGA candidate: "*rhetorical equivalent of fart noises*" MAGA: "StOp AtTaCkInG tHeM aNd CaLlInG oUt LiEs So WoKe!!111!!!1"
Well would you look at that, a single journalist holds a single politician's feet to the fire. Not a bad average since Trump first took office a decade ago.
"That's not how math and logic work". So simple, yet none of the legacy media is EVER willing to tell that to Trump. We all know why. Protection and privilege.
Trump himself, with his huge, bulging Presidential mancock, conducted a raid on the complex, and killed the cartel members like dogs. They died like dogs with tears in their eyes.
Literally nothing, and those opportunistic fucks over at TYT lied about it, never retracted their lies or apologized for uncritically spreading right-wing lies
The whole point of being a journalist was not that it paid well. It was supposed to be a job where people cared about presenting true factual news to the masses. It was about the public good, like a soup kitchen.
Reporters not doing this is why trump is in power. They ask him a basic question he say nothing close to an answer then brags about a made up fact and they say “thank you sir” and not, “that isn’t an answer.”
It's easier and more profitable to just make shit up that gets clicks and views or just go after things that are easy to make controversial. Salience equals engagement which equals profit. Our collective decision to allow marketing agencies fund our "news" is the root cause of all this bull shit.
Access. They are deathly afraid of losing access and being iced out. Its why the New York Times was so shitty with Biden. Staffer provided a statement on the condition his name was withheld, they named him anyway, so Biden decided to go to another publication for his first interview as President. NYT felt they had a right to the first interview and they have been attacking him since.
Call me crazy but I still firmly believe there is zero good reason to have a 24 hour news cycle and that all news outlets should be publicly funded through multiple different revenue streams that are 100% contingent on the news outlet remaining factual. No more of this op ed crap. Just tell me what's going on to the best of your knowledge through vetting and research and let me decide what I think out it.
The problem becomes who determines what is "fact". Revenue is a huge issue as you need to pay the journalists, photogs, editors, etc. while maintaining the medium on which its delivered. For a local paper, it was the classifieds but Craigslist started the end of that. Business ads can help, but publish the wrong story and they revolt. Subscriptions help, but no one wants to pay for them (nO pAyWaLs). I don't know what's next but strong local news needs to be key.
I majored in Print Journalism and politicians wanted nothing more than to silence the watchdogs. They got their wish in the 1996 Telecommunications Act which lifted ownership restrictions and helped to usher in the giant media groups you see now, which have emptied newsrooms from coast to coast, while funneling local ad dollars out of the communities. Our local paper is a USAToday owned rag that employs less than 10 locally.
The paper is printed 2 hours away and the emphasis is on local high school sports. No offense to anyone with kids in sports...but no one cares. The giant building where our Newspaper was housed has been divided into office rental space. I do marketing now and I have to contact a sales person in an office 3 hours away if I want to purchase ad space. Its broken and I don't see a way to fix it. Independent is a start, but those end up being sold to the giant media groups.
As a society we need to understand that getting something for "free" isn't a viable business model and we need to pay for accurate and trustworthy news. The only way we can have that is if the threat of losing funding is always a possibility if a news outlet fucks around.
The people who manage the public funding determine if the reporting is factual or not. That's why I said multiple different revenue streams. As soon as you tie the business model to the financial control of a single entity bias starts to creep in.

Yeah this might be my favorite post ever. Or at least it would have been if it included any sauce. But the moderator was fucking great, yes.

The problem is that journalism is a low paying job and its almost impossible to work your way up, unless you have some sort of financial support.
