It's one of the downsides of my work, that I often work with arseholes. I'm a miner, not a proctologist. But still. The other downsides include you'll miss moments like this. We thought it would be soon, we were planning accordingly. But shit just accelerated a bit fast. Life (and death) does that.

I was unable to get home to be with her in her final moments. And between us cats, this is just blatant void screaming. It's been an influenza ridden wankfest of a swing at work, full of hard yakka and denied raises (but with the bonus of doing the work, that the raise would be tied to). We were fortunate, my lady was able to be there, arrange a vet visit, and ensure she passed smoothly and painlessly. The last debt, owed a pet.

A lovely dog, Peggy. No two ways about it. Loved people more than food, and only really liked our kid when it was dinner time/post-dinner-mess clean up duties.

Easy to miss a dog as calm and sweet and lovely and dumb as a bag of rocks, as she was. Sleep well pup.

Key takeaway; puppers knew they were loved.

Almost makes you not want to ever get another dog.
But then you do.

Bad luck. Hope someone here can cheer you up a bit.

So sorry for your loss. Losing our pups is such a deep one and it’s just as deeply misunderstood sometimes. Hoping you find some peace.

It's hard for people like us to see our pets as anything but family members. The level of indifference and mistreatment of animals by some in my opinion they have a screw loose. A dog isn't a toy or a lawnmower, it's a living breathing being with feelings that have more empathy than more humans

I just put mine down today. I had the chance to be there for him. Fuck I miss him.

I'm sorry, friend. The more you miss them, the more y'all shared a love. Let the good memories reinforce your moving forward. We do this not for a long time, but to explore and grow. The bad cones with the good, at I hope we learn to appreciate all of it even more because of the fragility, or at least in honor of it. It's the process. We get little or no say in it, but we can respect it. Take care, you're going to do great.

Hugs. I’m moved by your post. This glimpse in to the life of another on this rock flying through space is deeply humanizing and I am sorry you are on the path to endure the sticky emotions you’re about to. But realize you’re human and it’s normal. Sucky but normal. I’m feeling them too on your behalf, although a dilute solution of the same dram.

Aw, this is so difficult. But a lot of animals (and also people in my experience as an RN) wait until loved ones aren't around to die.

Myeah... I had this with my sick rabbit. I sat in its cage for hours as a kid, it was clear she didn't have long anymore. Then I left for 5 min, came back and it had died. 😢 I'm glad OP's wife was there for their doggo. I'm sure the pupper knew they were loved.

Oh my Dog, @OP. I'm so sorry for your loss. The work shite too, but I guess all of us have to deal with that in one way or another. May you be comforted in sweet memories of your pupster.
